Hard fought Junior Hurling win

***Hard fought win in poor conditions** 2nd March 2014 AHL6 - Civil service 1-5 v Syls 1-6 Islandbridge The score line tells the story of how poor the conditions were but certainly not the effort put in by both teams. Early on, Service coped better and moved into a 1-4 to no score lead after 20 mins before Syls began to exert some influence, Conor Dwyers move to midfield tipping the balance in Syls favour, it yielded 2 frees which Pat Hoyne duly converted with his usual aplomb ! HT score 1-4 to 0-2.

Two quick fire points from Colm and Fergus just after the restart left a goal between the teams. When a tired looking Service hit what was to be there last point, followed by a point effort from Colm which dropped into the net, Syls sensed that a comeback was on the cards. Syls equalised with a 65 and Gregg came off the bench to pop over the winning point. Service piled on the pressure in the last ten minutes but Syls defence well marshalled by Ciaran and

Ronan were dogged in their determination and Syls held out for a deserved win. The defence deserve most of the accolades, after the slow start Brendan, Derek, Karl and Des got up to speed and confined Service to a single point in the 2nd half. Mannix and Conor worked tirelessly in the middle and the forwards ably led by Ian and Pat did just enough to claim the win.
Derek Morris, Karl Steacy, Ciaran Murray, Des Lehane, Derek Roche, Ronan Kennedy, Brendan Flood,
Mannix Ryan, Conor Dwyer, Eoin Kennedy, Ian McCafferty, Fergus Rooney(0-1),
Colm Boran (1-2, 1x65), Phil Browne, Pat Hoyne (0-2f), Claude Scully for Phil, Gregg Hannon
(0-1) for Ian, Killian for Karl.
