Minor girls beat Boden in Div1 C'ship

The Minor Girls had a great win in the Div 1 Minor Championship against Ballyboden St Endas today in Bloomfield Syls 1-9 Ballyboden 0-7. Since we started at U10 in 2005 we have won a trophy every year. We always found Ballyboden very hard to beat. We did beat them in the League by 5 points the year they won the All Ireland Féile in 2009.

But until today we had never beaten them in Championship football. This Ballyboden team is one of the greatest teams to ever have played Ladies Gaelic Football

The girls had been badly hit by injuries all year and lost the first two Championship Group Matches against Kilmacud & Castleknock because of this. We had most of the players back for the Ballyboden game but were written off by most of the amateur pundits.

The girls were asked in the dressing room by Ann to do it for us as it might be our second last match involved after 9 years. It was an emotional moment on all sides. The girls responded on the field under the Coaching of Declan and produced the best performance since 2005.

It is hard to pick out players but Emer Treacy scored 1-3 (Player of the Match). All the players were great today. Ballyboden were confined to 0-4 in the first half and & 0-3 in the second half. Declans stand up defensive system really paid off. Donegal's defensive system could not have been meaner.

Michael Gillen Ballyboden Manager said after the game that Syls were the best team they had played in the past seven years and said it was obviously down to the training they are getting. He said that Syls were playing the pure football they used to play. He also said Syls were a tough team who hit hard (non contact Ladies Football) but not dirty.

We are still in with a chance of Championship Success if we win our last game V Fingallians/ St Margarets, but realistically we could end up winning our fourth Div 1 Championship Shield.

The girls did it for Ann.
