Minor Hurlers up and running at last

Clan na Mara 1-13 Clontarf 1-11. Our amalgamated Minor hurling team (Syls\Scoil) collected its first league points ( Div2) on Sunday morning against a very capable Clontarf team managed by Noel Wardick (son of Syls stalwart Jim Wardick !) It was a battling performance based on a sturdy defence with Thomas, Sean Foley & Phelim excelling but ably supported by Darragh McGrath, Sean Doolin and Andrew. Danny Colclough returned to goal keeping duties from injury and made several crucial saves

Simon's return to full fitness played a big part as he commanded midfield for long periods and chipped in with two massive long distance scores. Killian Linnane worked tirelessly alongside Simon. However when Clontarf scored a goal midway through the 2nd second and moved into a four point lead, things looked ominous. Up front Sean McDonagh, Alister, EoinMc , EoinK & Ruairi although finding scores from play difficult to comeby, stuck to their task. The constant pressure and combative approach yielded 11 frees and we converted 9 . Shane Corry popped over a nice point followed by a nicely poached goal from Colm to put us two ahead in injury time.
The drama continued for another agonising five minutes of injury time ( a mystery in itself), culminating in a 20 metre free for Clontarf, thankfully the attempt was blocked on the line and the ref blew full time to a resounding sideline cheer.
