Seniors fall at final hurdle

AFL1 Title Game - ST BRIGID'S 2-10 ST SYLVESTER'S 0-12 Disappointment again as we lost our second final in two years. This time we were well in the hunt and looked like winning with 10 minutes remaining leading by two points but we didn't add on the scores when we had the advantage. Brigids goaled after some indecision in our backline and kicked on with a couple of points. Great crowd, great fast game of football, lots to be positive about. Congratulations to Brigids, they competed hard all season. Congratulations to Gabriel, Paul, Giddy, Tom, and Ciaran and all our team, it was a long hard season and, pushed Vincents to a point in the Championship (and they may win the All Ireland, good luck to them) and went within 10 minutes of winning the league. Of course we're disappointed, who wouldn't be, but we're very proud of our team no doubt we will come again next season. Well done all.

From HILL16 - ST BRIGID'S 2-10 ST SYLVESTER'S 0-12

Goals from Eoin Maguire and Daire Plunkett proved crucial as St Brigid’s captured the Dublin AFL1 title in Thursday night’s final at Balgriffin.

In a tight battle it was Brigid’s who finished the stronger in the concluding ten minutes to see the managerial reign of Mark Byrne and Gerry McEntee end on a high as top-flight league champions.

Maguire’s goal arrived in the ninth minute of the opening half, following good approach work from Plunkett, and by the interval the Russell Park men lead 1-4 to 0-3 after 15 minutes following two Philly Ryan (pictured) points.

Syls replied with two Ken Sweeney points but the forceful John O’Loughlin replied for Brigid’s and by the interval only the minimum separated the sides.

Two minutes into the second half the Malahide outfit were in front following scores from Eoin Fanning and a Nigel Dunne free.

Eight minutes remaining the pacey Plunkett cut through the cover before finishing clinically and when Maguire and Emlyn Mulligan added scores the title was headed to Dublin 15.

SCORERS - St Brigid's: P Ryan 0-5 (0-3f), D Plunkett, E Maguire 1-1, J O'Loughlin, Mark Cahill, E Mulligan 0-1 each. St Sylvester's: N Dunne 0-3 (0-2f), A Foy (0-2f), E Fanning, K Sweeney 0-2, J Coughlan, B Sexton, A Relihan 0-1 each.
