U13s just pipped in Div1

The U13A footballers travelled to last year's Southside Champions Clanna Gael this Saturday for a Division 1 league game. Clan had swatted all before them so we knew we were going to be up against it especially as we were missing a couple of players. We played with a strong wind in the first half and despite taking a while to get going we turned 2-07 to 1-0 with Conor Hoyne having a stormer. At half time we had to replace our towering midfielder Andrew Roe and this meant a change in formation, however we continued to play great football and scored 1-01 quickly.

The strong wind then took a hold of proceedings and while we worked hard Clan managed to get a foothold. We had a few chances to kill off the game but missed them and with our kickouts not even clearing the half back line, such was the wind strength, we conceded ground and scores. Our defence was brave and strong but with many of our lads having already played matches that day we ran out of steam and conceded a late goal to go 2 points down with time almost up. We have a brave team though and managed to camp in the Clan 20 for the last few minutes but we could not dig out the score needed.

All in all this was a positive result which showed up things to work on and that we will be right in the mix for Division 1 if we keep working hard. Thursday night in Bridgefield we play Lucan who are flying and Tuesday week we visit Kilmacud.

The U13 Bs hosted Ballyboden and while we conceded a couple of soft early goals we fought back and owned the ball for most of the game. We were on the wrong side of the new advantage rule on a couple of occasions, at one stage even getting a goal before the ref called it back and awarded us a free in!!! we missed a lot of chances and on another day we would have been victorious but at the final whistle we found ourselves 2 points down. This team has real potential if we could get everyone available but between midterm and other activities there was some commitment missing. Sean Mulvey was exceptional at midfield and Ollie Twomey scorer in chief.

The C teams opponents called off their game an hour before throw in.
