Slaughtneil . . . what a great story
A super second half display in Newry today in beating the ever excellent Dublin champions, St Vincents, continues the fairytale for Slaughtneil. All Ireland Club Football Finalists, their ladies have reached the All Ireland Camogie Final, the hurlers play a very strong Cuala from Dublin in the All Ireland Hurling Semi Final and I hear they even have a Gaeltacht status for their area. What a great story. Comhghairdeas, aghaidh agus aníos, Slaughtneil Abú.
The Lotto has been won
Sylvesters Lotto first prize of €13,000 Lotto was won last night by two of the most loved characters in St Sylvesters. Please continue to support our lotto as it is a great source of revenue and a great way to show your support. Great thanks to Kevin, John and Pat for running the Lotto every wee and thanks also to the lads who run the bar for their support. Syls abú.

Broomfield Campus Development
In continuation of our quest to provide the best possible sporting facilities for our members our Facilities Development Group have documented the attached plan as illustrative of what we hope to achieve. It is pretty consistent with other plans developed over the years shows a practical roadmap for our facilities to be developed in a phased manner. We are submitting an application for Sports Grant Funding by 24th February and we wish to make members aware of the costs involved if we want to build an all-weather facility in Broomfield. An application for a grant does not commit us in any way at this stage. The plan attached is for illustrative purposes only and will undoubtedly change as we continue to engage.
Update on Bridgefield Developments
The Executive wish to update members on the motion passed at the AGM to establish a Forum to address the membership concerns in relation to FCC's plans to modify the playing facilities at Bridgefield. In light of the recent decision by FCC to withdraw its application and feedback from the Forum, no further action is deemed necessary at this point in time. Thanks to Paul, Aisling and Eric for taking this on. Given our club's connection with Bridgefield, the Executive will undertake to keep the membership informed of any new proposed changes to the playing facilities there and should this arise will convene if necessary a Special General Meeting whereby a vote of the membership can take place before any agreement shall be entered into.
Billy Reburn - very sorry I have poor spies - the umpire says he's only a young 99

We congratulate Billy on this great milestone and wish him and his family a Very Happy Birthday, Comhghairdeas. Billy is third from the left on the front row - thanks to Michael for the picture.
Work on the Ball Wall
I'm sure many you have seen the new targets painted onto the short side of the Ball Wall (see pic attached). This is as a result of the great time & effort spent by our new Facilities Group lead by Eoin Farquharson & Aidan Lillis and helped by Liam Foley. They plan to finish this project by completing the large side this Saturday (weather permitting) which will result in the closure of the large side of the wall.

Floodlights - nearly there
Great to see we are nearly there with the floodlights project in Broomfield - - All pole bases installed and cabling in. (see pic) - Generator base and fencing installed. (see pic) - Lighting columns delivered to Broomfield (see pic) - Seamus Byrne Electrical has all other plant and materials now in his stores or ready to be delivered i.e. Generator, light fittings and main panel. Unfortunately with the recent wet weather the ground is too soft (particularly on the houses side of the pitch) to erect the poles and lights as damage would be caused. - There is about 2/3 weeks work left after the Christmas to complete weather permitting

Our club and it’s members are blessed to have so many committed volunteers who have freely given up their time and resources to make such an important contribution to the development of our young people.
A sad day but a proud day
Last Saturday was a very sad day for for the club with the funeral of Declan Morris. It was lovely to see such a large crowd turn out to mourn Declan. St Sylvesters hurlers and U12 footballers provided a guard of honour while a number of club members also provided very fitting tributes to Declan at the funeral ceremony. Many thanks to Martin and Eddie and the staff at the club and Sportslink for looking after the mourners and thanks to Carole and the Morris's for letting us share in a very sad but proud day.

Developments in Malahide Castle
Fingal CC have communicated that they do not intend to proceed with the “Forest Adventure Area and Multi-Use Reinforced Grass Area” at Malahide Demesne. Fingal CC have stated that they plan to carry out a review of the number of short-term car parking spaces in and adjacent to Malahide Village and, if necessary, identify suitable locations for the provision of additional spaces. At this point in time we have no indication if future proposals could potentially impact upon our existing facilities. This decision has potential implications for our ambitions relating to development plans at Broomfield. We will continue to engage constructively with Fingal CC to attempt to address this matter on behalf of the membership of St Sylvesters GAA.
Mentors Night deferred - U21 hurling off
We're sorry we have to defer the Mentors Appreciation Night due to the funeral of Declan Morris. We will re-arrange as soon as possible as Declan and Carole would insist we celebrate the great work done by all the team mentors and trainers and all of you who make St Sylvesters a great club. Also, the U21 hurling championship semi-final at Kevins is off, will be re-scheduled by the county board.
Declan Morris has passed away
We are all very shocked and saddened that our great friend and clubman Declan Morris passed away this morning in Beaumont Hospital after a short illness. Declan and Carol are unsung heros at St Sylvesters, helping and supporting in so many ways and it is impossible to say how much Declan will be missed. Our sympathies go out to Carole, Alan, Graham and Derek. Funeral arrangements attached from rip.ie. God Bless Declan, Rest in Peace.
