2009 boys & families headed in Croker on Saturday.
50 or so 2009 boys & their families headed to Croker on Saturday. For many it was their fist time to visit, some visited the GAA museum and searched for the Syls crest on the wall. The parents would to thank the committee who organised the event and prepared the goodie bags with threats. A great day was evening had by all, except for the fans supporting Mayo!

Jim, the hurley fixer
It's a great tradition among hurlers that some guys fix broken hurleys. Two repaired examples showed up at our house this morning and I have to say they are a brilliant examples of an age old tradition. These are from Jim Wardick who has been fixing hurleys for Syls lads for over thirty years. Other lads like Bernard, Greg, Danny also practice this art, I even used to have a go myself years ago and maybe will again sometime. A great tradition Jim, many thanks from all the lads whose favourite piece of ash you saved.
Facilities development - the beat goes on
Continuing the great work of the past few years we are delighted to let you know that the club has successfully completed an initial application for a €150,000 sports council grant to assist in the development of a Broomfield sports campus to include a full size floodlit all weather astro training pitch. If our application is successful this funding will go in its entirety towards providing top class facilities for our kids.

Seniors win at Maurs
St V de P Cup Four point win I believe, always nice to start the season with a win. Syls played a fairly direct brand of football. Lots of new players getting a run was also encouraging. The game was dominated by a gale force wind straight down the field and a penallty mid first half with the wind behind them kept Maurs in the game and Syls were slow enough to kill off the game in the second half.
Junior Bs win at Na Fianna
Duffy Cup Na Fianna 1-05 St Sylvesters 3-11 Excellent win in awful conditions against a decent looking Na Fianna. To be fair, we have quite a bit of experience on the field so we won't be getting too far ahead of ourselves but nice to get the win having worried about our ability to field given all the other games on today. Jamie Grey sealed the deal with a net ripping drive mid second half against a gale and this finally put the result beyond doubt. Ronan Gaine, Eoin Manning, Paddy McIntyre, Sean Quinn all did very well in a side where Mark Reilly, the Roches and Kevin Meehan gave us a solid base. Phil Murray did the business in goal when asked by a few good Fianna efforts and Vinnie Kirrane had an excellent all round game.
Congratulations to John Horan and Na Fianna - Up The Dubs
Great to see a native Dub elected as President of the GAA. Congratulations to John Horan and we wish you a successful presidency. Great news for our friends in Na Fianna, a great honour for the club.
Noel Harrison RIP (grandfather of Nicole and Simon Owens)
St Sylvesters send our condolences to Michelle Owens (nee Harrison) on the passing of her dad Noel, grandfather to prominent Syls and Dublin players Nicole and Simon.
Dublin Ladies in Parnell Park on Sunday.
Dublin Ladies play Donegal in Parnell Park on Sunday at 2p.m. This should be a cracker. Only a point separated the teams in last year's Championship match. Both teams have registered two wins and one loss in the League. Do support the girls on Sunday and we wish Niamh a speedy recovery from her recent injury
Nice picture of Declan
Just spotted this picture of Declan Morris in Parnell Park with Mel and Declan Ryan at the Hurling Feile last year - probably a bit of a tear-jerker for some of us but I thought a lovely memory nonetheless.

Ladies Section AGM
The AGM was held on January 24. A good attendance heard annual reports from the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. Two long-serving people, Angela Aherne and Katerina Ryan, stepped down from their positions on the committee and were thanked for their selfless service over the years. Angela Aherne, former Secretary, has gracefully agreed to stay on as a delegate to the county board.
Junior Bs start with a draw
We were caught a little off guard with a late addition to the fixture list but nonetheless there was a great turnout and thanks to all the lads who ensured we did not go short. We're sti;; looking for players as we will need a good panel to get us through the year. Training is with the Junior A team on Tuesday and Thursdays at 8.00pm thanks to Shay Byrne and his team. We drew 0-13 to 1-10 against Man O War. We had 21 players and everyone got at least half a game. There was a good crowd up there too. It was great to the likes of Shay Keogh (5 points), Derek Roche (3 points), Ciaran Roche (2 points),Kev Meehan (1 point) back playing again. Paudy Tracey and Killian Haverty chipped in a point each too.
Seniors got a walkover, Inters a bye and JuniorAs lost
Vincents pulled out of the VdeP game and the seniors played a very lively in-house game, I liked the movement and the energy. The Inters had a bye this week and the Junior As loost over at Peregrines.

U14s win away to Boden in Div1
U14F D1 Ballyboden St Endas 0-10, St Sylvesters 3-05 Hard fought game in difficult weather conditions but great to start the season with a big scalp. The U13s also played Boden (we had a bit of a pig out of Division 1 Football with Ballyboden this weekend) - anyone send me the result.
