Saturday April 8th Feile Broomfield
Just advance notice to all Adult managers & Ladies section that on Saturday April 8th Syls will be hosting U14 Boys Football Féile group games. Only 1 pitch will be used on the day, with the final decision on which pitch being made closer to the event. As there are no Adult or Ladies games fixed for home that day, it shouldn’t cause any interference with teams. However just to note that on the day ALL dressing rooms will be used for the Feile competition teams solely and access for any other teams will only be available from 5.30pm onwards. Many thanks in advance for your co-operation on this matter. Regards Fergal McStay Club Secretary

Hurlers start with three good wins
AHL3 St Sylvesters 4-08 Kilmacud Crokes 0-08 Always great to start the league with a win, The Junior As had a 1-20 to 1-07 win over Olafs, I haven't heard how the Bs fared against Realt Dearg in Div8. The AHL8 team had a convincing 6 point win over Realt Dearg. Great start all roud.
Gerry Gillett RIP
We are very sad to report the passing of Gerry Gillett, a mentor to our successful minor footballers in the early 2000's and father to Mark, a prominent footballer with St Sylvesters. It was always great to meet Gerry at a game, he was a knowledgeable and passionate football man and former player himself with Parnells. Funeral Mass on Friday, 6th May, in Our Lady of Mercy Church, Artane, arriving for 10am Mass and afterwards to Glasnevin Crematorium for cremation.
Senior Footballers nice win at Portrane
St V de P Cup St Pats Donabate 1-10 St Sylvesters 4-13 First competitive game of the season and an impressive outring, scoring freely and only giving up scores late on. Mick Shields made a number of very good one-on-one saves, Dylan Connolly had an impressive busy debut at wing back, Gary Sweeney and Mick McCarthy were in form up front. We had some nice passing movements and overall had a good outing
Hurlers go down to Vincents
SHC B St Vincents 1-16 St Sylvesters 1-13 Disappointing result as we often looked the better team but too many wides in the first half when we were well on top cost us dearly. We went out of the game for a long period of the second half when Vincents tacked on a lot of scores but we finished strongly, grazing the crossbar maybe three times in the last five minuites but not getting the goal we needed.
St Sylvesters Website - sorry lads, I cannot do it anymore
For personal reasons I am forced to resign as PRO of St Sylvesters and I must also pull back from maintaining the website which I have been doing since 2004. Anyone who has any interest in getting involved please contact Paddy at patrick.miskelly@mdlz.com or Fergal at fergal@rew.ie. This is not a technical role, it is much more about story telling with words and pictures and could suit a group of people looking after football, hurling, ladies, ccc1, academy, ccc2, social, sponsors. I'll leave it with you but I hope someone steps forward as the web is a very important communications medium for the club and the local newspapers also rely quite heavily on the site being up to date.
Please advise all Team Managers in your Club.
For insurance purposes teams taking part in Challenge Matches are advised that they must apply - through their Club Secretary - for permission to take part in a challenge game via the following email address at least 72 hours before throw-in time -- challenges@dublingaa.ie. Please note that the CCC has no function in recording notifications of challenge games for insurance purposes. Is Mise, Seán MacNiocláis.
Stephen Tracey RIP, Sinead, Paudy and Anthony's dad.
St Sylvester's would like to send our condolences to the Tracey family on the passing of Stephen, may he Rest in Peace. Stephen was father to Sinead, long time captain of our ladies team and a regular Dublin player, Sinead's brothers Paudy and Anthony also played for the club from underage to senior level.
Joe Duffy Motors & St Sylvesters Affinity Scheme
Joe Duffy are a key club sponsor with a particular focus within the juvenile section. We have recently agreed an affinity scheme for all members of St Sylvesters and Joe Duffy Motors have now provided us with key contacts for all their brands. Staff at Joe Duffy Motors have been briefed on the relationship with the club and the need to provide club members with additional and exclusive benefits like home/work test drives, free courtesy vehicles (where available) for servicing and better value servicing and sales deals.
Congratulations to Cuala from St Sylvesters
Big congratulations to the Cuala hurlers bringing the All Ireland Club Hurling title to Dublin for the first time. Great achievement lads and of course we're hoping this will translate to more county success where Cuala provide a lot of the Dublin team. Well done lads, enjoy the success.
U13 Girls continue with a great display against Ballymun Kickhams
St Sylvesters v Ballymun Kickhams on 1 Mar 2017 St Sylvesters travelled to Ballymun Kickhams on a damp Saturday afternoon. The teams were evenly matched through the first half with players on both sides getting to grips with the soft underfoot conditions. A great team display gave the St Sylvesters girls a deserved lead of 0-2 to 1-2.
Senior footballers get their league campaign off to a winning start
AFL1 St Sylvester’s 0-9 Skerries Harps 0-6 Our senior football team opened their league campaign with a hard-fought win over newly promoted Skerries Harps, who brought a large crowd to Broomfield for the game (hopefully we can do the same for our away games!). The match was played in very difficult conditions with persistent rain and a strong wind blowing down from the car park end.
Child Welfare Officer for St Sylvesters
Due to a resignation we need a volunteer to fill the position of Child Welfare Officer. No specific qualifications are required but knowledge of the broad are of child safety and welfare and how to discreetly investigate issues would be very useful. Please don't be afraid of the title, we need someone to step forward, just as with any other positions in the club. Email Paddy at patrick.miskelly@mdlz.com or Fergal at fergal@rew.ie. See the attached description of Child WElfare and Protection within the GAA.
PJ Hickey refereeing in Croke Park on St Patrick's Day
PJ Hickey from the U12 Boys Football & Hurling squad was honored to referee the mini game between Dr Crokes and Slaughtneil U12 teams at half time in Croke Park on St Patrick's day. He had a great day, meeting the Cuala hurlers and just sampling the whole Croke Park atmosphere. The announcer gave a lovely pen picture of PJ and mentioned St Sylvesters and PJs favourite players, Sinead Aherne his top pick. For the record, Crokes won easy, and PJ gave very few frees! Great stuff PJ, well done, hopefully some day soon we will have the whole of Syls in Croke Park on Paddy's Day, that's the plan lads.
'The Hoss' captained Dublin
Nice recognition fro Ross Hazely, one of our most consistent high performers over the past ten years and one of my favourite players at St Sylvesters, captaining Dublin in a challenge at TCD last Sunday. Gary Sweeney also showed well in this game and both lads can be seen this Sunday against Skerries at Broomfield.
We need a volunteer from our Football supporters
With the new AFL1 starting in Broomfield next Sunday it would be really nice to see us using the scoreboard again at senior games. I always think we miss a little of the athmosphere and pomp by not using the scoreboard at these premier Dublin games but we need a volunteer to step up and take responsibility. Most mentors have the keys and I'm sure Cotsie or Conor or one of the senior metors will set you up. Come on, someone from the crowd please step forward every week and make this happe. Next Sunday sees Ciaran and Derek Roche bring their newly promoted Skerries Harps to Broomfield for their first ever AFL1 game We wish them luck, just not as much as we wish Syls luck, of course. And it would be nice to see the scoreboard used for all games on pitch 1, adds a bit.
We Are Dublin GAA, Dublin Player Of The Weekend for 2017 is from St Sylvesters, KATIE O’SULLIVAN.
What a lovely honour for our girls and for Katie Sullivan in particular gaining the Player of the Weekend over all sports and grades

U13 Girls start season with a great display against Ballinteer St Johns B
St. Sylvesters v Ballinteer St Johns B on 4 Mar 2017 St Sylvesters were to play BSJ on March 4th. Poor weather changed the fixture from Broomfield to Ballinteeer Community School. St Sylvesters lost the toss and had to play against the elements. At the start, the St Sylvesters girls were under serious pressure which eventually led to a BSJ score. The St Sylvesters girls rallied and the St Sylvesters defense and midfield started to dominate and produce good ball, from which the forwards scored. At half time, St Sylvesters lead 3-5 to 0 – 1.
