U16s go down to Boden by three
Baltic weather did not dampen the enthusiasm in this excellent Division1 opening game. The lead changed hands regularly in a fagt moving skillful game. We were tight on players while Boden had a full compliment of subs and that probably made the difference in the end when we could not provide any relief on a very slippy and heavy field which really takes it out of the legs.
Slaughtneil . . . what a great story
A super second half display in Newry today in beating the ever excellent Dublin champions, St Vincents, continues the fairytale for Slaughtneil. All Ireland Club Football Finalists, their ladies have reached the All Ireland Camogie Final, the hurlers play a very strong Cuala from Dublin in the All Ireland Hurling Semi Final and I hear they even have a Gaeltacht status for their area. What a great story. Comhghairdeas, aghaidh agus aníos, Slaughtneil Abú.

Fionn playing for Lovely Leitrim
Nice to see Fionn lining out in the National Football League for Leitrim against Wicklow in Aughrim last Sunday. Surprisingly Fionn is the first 'home grown' Syls player to play in the NFL in quite a few years. Now I'm a Leitrim fan.
The Lotto has been won
Sylvesters Lotto first prize of €13,000 Lotto was won last night by two of the most loved characters in St Sylvesters. There was a great atmosphere in the club with the news and we thank all those who have contributed over a number of years. Please continue to support our lotto as it is a great source of revenue and a great way to show your support. Great thanks to Kevin, John and Pat for running the Lotto every wee and thanks also to the lads who run the bar for their support. Syls abú.

They played superbly and everyone had great fun. This team is going from strength to strength with our player numbers increasing so much we will be playing a three team league this year to ensure all girls get more match time. Looking forward to the year ahead.

U21 footballers win the B Championship
U21 FC B Final St Sylvesters 2-13 Raheny 0-13 U21 is a great competition and this final between two young fast teams lived up to the expectations of a large crowd. Raheny raced into an early lead with some excellent points but a long ball into the square from Jack was fielded by Collie Byrne who beat his man to goal and Syls never really looked back. An unnecessary sending off of one of the Raheny backs took some of the sting out of the game. As often happens, we lost our way for a while and Raheny played a more direct game, closing the gap to to three points with about 10 minutes to play.

Syls players in Inter County duty
New captain Sinead Aherne came on before half time, replacing clubmate Niamh Mc while Nicole played a very effective roving role in the Dubs 1-07 to 0-05 win over a fine Monaghan outfit at Nmh Marnóg. Ross Hazely had another impressive outing with the Dubs in the O'Byrne Cup Final. Gary unfortunately did not make the lineup after a poor red card in Wexford ruined his early season.

St Sylvester’s, Sinead Aherne has been announced as the new Dublin Ladies senior captain taking over the position from Noelle Healy who will now take on the role of team vice-captain.

Broomfield Campus Development
In continuation of our quest to provide the best possible sporting facilities for our members our Facilities Development Group have documented the attached plan as illustrative of what we hope to achieve. It is pretty consistent with other plans developed over the years shows a practical roadmap for our facilities to be developed in a phased manner. We are submitting an application for Sports Grant Funding by 24th February and we wish to make members aware of the costs involved if we want to build an all-weather facility in Broomfield. An application for a grant does not commit us in any way at this stage. The plan attached is for illustrative purposes only and will undoubtedly change as we continue to engage.
U21s impressive semi final win over Clontarf
U21 FC B semi final St Sylvesters 3-12 Clontarf 1-05 A big Syls crowd showed up expecting a tough championship encounter. Not so many from Clontarf and the respective performances seemed to match the crowds enthusiasm. There was a minutes silence observed in memory of Declan Morris who passed away recently. Although more recently associated with hurling, Declan was also a great supported of our footballers and the Dubs and the three Morris lads are all duel players.

We congratulate Billy on this great milestone and wish him and his family a Very Happy Birthday, Comhghairdeas. Billy is third from the left on the front row - thanks to Michael for the picture.
Ross and Gary in O'Byrne Cup action
Gary Sweeney made a strong bid for a Dublin spot with some busy performances but an unfortunate red card down in Wexford put him out of yesterdays win at Kildare, Ross has fought his way into the starting lineup and is knocking over the points. Final v Louth at Gaelic Grounds, Drogheda next Sunday (2.0).

Update on Bridgefield Developments
The Executive wish to update members on the motion passed at the AGM to establish a Forum to address the membership concerns in relation to FCC's plans to modify the playing facilities at Bridgefield. In light of the recent decision by FCC to withdraw its application and feedback from the Forum, no further action is deemed necessary at this point in time. Thanks to Paul, Aisling and Eric for taking this on. Given our club's connection with Bridgefield, the Executive will undertake to keep the membership informed of any new proposed changes to the playing facilities there and should this arise will convene if necessary a Special General Meeting whereby a vote of the membership can take place before any agreement shall be entered into.
Juvenile AGM - new committee
There was a good attendance at the Juvenile AGM on Thursday. Fergal gave an excellent summary of how we stand with regard to competitiveness and participation relative to the other big Dublin clubs. Each age group gave a good status of their sections and Panner covered coaching as usual. Fergal and Paddy have moved on the be Chairman and Secretary of the Club Executive. Pat Hoyne (still playing junior hurling since we refused to accept his most recent attempt to retire) will be the new Chairman, Will Rooney will be Vice Chair and Marie Hughes has stepped into the Secretary position. Thanks to Paddy and Fergal and the outgoing committee and let's make sure the new committee have our full support and commitment.
Work on the Ball Wall
I'm sure many you have seen the new targets painted onto the short side of the Ball Wall (see pic attached). This is as a result of the great time & effort spent by our new Facilities Group lead by Eoin Farquharson & Aidan Lillis and helped by Liam Foley. They plan to finish this project by completing the large side this Saturday (weather permitting) which will result in the closure of the large side of the wall.
