Junior Hurling "D" Championship St Annes 9, Sunday 25th September 2011 St Sylvesters 3-12, Raheny 3-11 (after extra time) Playing away from home against a side already promoted to AHL5, our Junior hurlers certainly went into this semi final as outsiders.

Hurlers lose in C'chip Semi Final

IHC SF St Sylvesters 2-08 Naomh Barróg 0-18 A hard game to write up from our perspective. We started slowly but were still well in it after 20 minutes at 5 points to 3 before Barrógs two classy wing forwards found their form and they lead by 8 at the break. A few changes saw us take a better shape after the break, a goal from Tom Reddy, a few points from Martin and Russy, the half back line getting more ball and we were back in it.

Ormand superb as hurlers win in C'ship

IHC St Sylvesters 2-18 Setanta 1-18 Great champioship game saw Syls edge out a fine Setanta team at Broomfield in front of a pretty good crowd on Saturday. The highlight was surely Martin Ormands super display at full forward, he must have contributed 12 or 13 points from frees and play. Mannix continued his good form of late with an opportunist early goal after the visiting keeper parried a shot but generally we were second best in the first half and were extremely lucky to be level at the break, thanks to poor shooting by Setanta and good shooting by Martin.

More than water in the half time drinks!!

AHL6 St Sylvesters 0-12 St Olafs 0-5 Junior Hurling in Malahide Castle At half time with the aid of the wind our lads were a point ahead after a dour first half 0-4 to 0-3. What a transformation in the second half. I don't what the managers said at half time -some supporters thought that there was a little more than water in the half -time drinks- but whatever was said our lads got "stuck in" , harrying, blocking , non stop chasing the Olafs lads be they backs or forwards and taking their points from distance.

Inter hurlers win in the league

AHL3 Syls won over Thos Davis by three points. After a couple of tough losses during the week our hurlers got back to winning ways in a very quiet Broomfield, sorry lads, not much of a crowd today.

Inter hurlers just don't get a break

IHC St Sylvesters 0-13 Naomh Barróg 0-15 Good game of hurling, some wonderful scores from both sides, some felt that Barrog maybe shaded it but I think we were very unlucky not to get a goal from at least four second half opportunities. It was 0-8 each at half time and Barróg raced into a three point lead on the restart. Falvey was denied a goal by a brave keeper, then Mannix was blocked before Mannix then blazed over from the left when a goal seemed on.

Junior Hurlers lose narrowly to strong Raheny

What a difference in a couple of weeks! The first championship fixture for our Junior Hurlers was a tough one- a mountain to climb ! Only a few weeks ago they were completely outplayed by Raheny in a league match by 2:20 to 1:6. But on Tuesday evening these lads showed plenty of spirit and guts and no little skill when they face up again to Raheny.

AHL3 St Sylvesters 1-10 St Vincents 2-16 I think we were up a point at half time, the highlight a smart goal by substitute Johnney Conway. The lowlight was Dara Flaherty's broken finger,

Junior hurlers win by a goal

AHL6 St Sylvesters 2-18 Liffey Gaels 2-15 Sounds like a cracking game in the Castle on Thursday evening. We led for a long while but let Liffey Gaels back into it to draw level close to full time. We scored a long range free, their eagle eyed free taker missed on to level, have a short one intercepted for Syls to score again. Then their keeper tried a short free, again intercepted and we won by three.

Hurlers late draw in the league

AHL3 St Sylvesters 1-10 Commercials 1-10 Quick start by Syls saw us lead 1-6 to 0-3 after 20 minutes, Ronan getting 1-2 and we were hurling well with a strong wind. Couple of frees against us then a penalty goaled and we were level at the break. Commercials led for much of the second half but only by a point. A late free by Dave Casey equalised

Hurler win over strong Vincents

IHC St Sylvesters 3-10 St Vincents 2-9 Good to win after dropping a point to Judes last week, we led for most of the game, 2-5 to 0-6 at the break mand looked comfortable for much of the second half without closing it out.

Minor Hurlers win three in a row

MHL Div2 St Sylvesters 4 -18 Na Pearsaigh 1 -5. We played with a strong wind in the first half and clocked up 1 -14 with only to points from frees, in the second half our defence had to work harder and all rose to the challenge. There was many fine performances throughout the field, a special mention for Conor Meaney who scored seven points from play. Well done to a great group of young hurlers and looking forward to playing Ballyboden in Broomfield next Sunday 8th at 11.00.

Fingal go down to Monaghan

Disappointing result on this big weekend for Dublin hurling as Fingal lost in the Nick Rackard Cup by a few points to Monaghan after leading on and off. There was good support from Syls for our four representatives, David Keogh, Alan Morris, Andrew Richardson and great to see Hillary coming on in goal after a very long layoff. Martin Ormonde was badly missed in the forward line.

Nicky Rackard Cup Fingal v Monaghan in Fingallians ground at 2.30 on Saturday next 30th April. There are a number of the clubs players involved Alan Morris, Andrew Richardson, Martin Ormonde and David Keogh so we should be trying to get them as much support as possible.

Early dominance sees Minor Hurlers win

Our minor hurlers recorded their first 2 points of the campaign with a hard working victory against St. Finbarrs in Broomfield. Foundation for the win was laid in the first 20 minutes when we raced into an early lead, notching 2-5 to no reply. Best for Syls were Derek Morris who was deadly accurate from placed balls and Sean Kane who as ever worked tirelessly for the full 60 minutes.

Mouthguards for Juvenile players

As children get older and have their adult teeth the risk of damage in a game increases, in addition it is likely that mouth shields will become compulsory in the near future. With this in mind St Sylvesters and Dr Stephen Gallagher of Swords Orthodontucs are delighted to announce this new initiative. The idea of the initiative is to measure and fit all players from 9-18 with a proper gumshield. Stephen and his staff have set aside the 29th of April ( part of Easter School holidays) to measure as many Syls players as possible. We hope to fix the cost at between €5-€10 which is very cheap for this product. Stephens children attend the Cul Cubs Nursery every Saturday and we are delighted that he is able to give something back to the club in this manner. For any parents interested please read the consent form and contact the Surgery to make an appointment. Ernie

Hurlers impress in first outing

Corn Ceitean Fingallians 0-9 St Sylvesters 1-10. Pats O'Leary scored a cracking drop shot goal (Pet Keogh said he was practicing this move in training, yeah sure) with about 3 minutes to go to give us the lead in a very entertaining first outing of the year. Some nice points from David Keogh, Barry Kiely, Darragh Flaherty, Russy Cleere kept us in the game. Padraig Kennedy took a bad belt, hope he is ok.
