Hurlers first ever win over neighbours Nmh Marnóg
SHC B St Sylvesters 1-18 Naomh Marnóg 1-16 Tense game with a great crowd in Broomfield on Saturday evening saw our hurlers achieve our first ever win over Marnóg in Senior or Inter hurling. There was never more than two or three points between the teams, we trailed by a goal going into the last ten minutes but great battling saw us finish very strongly to take the points to a huge cheer from good support. Martin Ormonde hit 13 from 13 frees and 65's while Alan Kenny gave a man of the match performance at centre back.
Junior Hurlers meet strong Realt Dearg
This was the 2nd meeting of these teams in two weeks and the return of Ciaran Murray, Mannix Ryan and Hillary to the starting 15 added some badly needed experienced. But we were up against very well organised and drilled Realt and unfortunately came up a bit short in every department.

Junior hurlers lose in C C'ship and draw in F C'ship
It was a very tall order asking us to play three hurling championship games at the same time on Sunday morning without even some backup from the minors. The Junior As lost to Realt Dearg at Drimnagh Castle and I hope Bernard has a short report. Danny and Jim managed to field the third team thanks to lads like Dylan, Barry, Seamus showing a great bit of club spirit. A draw against a fairly strong looking Finnians in River Valley was an excellent achievement. Billo made two great saves early on,
Inter hurlers run into strong Boden
SHC B Ballyboden St Endas 5-18 St Sylvesters 4-12 A couple of early goals for Boden set the scene and we never really threatened in this Snr B Championship round robin. With a bit of a wind behind us we recovered somewhat in the closing stages of the first half to trail by five at the break but goals we needed didn't come until late in the second half when Boden were also scoring freely at the other end.
Minor B Hurlers go top of Div5
The Minor B hurlers had a hard fought victory over Wild Geese this morning to go top of Div 5. Oldtown is never an easy place to go and we looked unsettled early on as the forwards wasted quite a few good chances. However Daniel Mannix fired in a goal which kept us in the game and after a tough first half against the breeze we only trailed by a point at the break
Junior As lose to Realt Dearg
AHL6: Realt Dearg 1-16 St Sylvesters 1-11, Sun 10 April 2016, Drimnagh Castle. Never more than a puck of the ball between these two teams and on this occasion Realt came out on top. We started slowly playing with wind and even though we had a 5 point advantage at half time , it left us with a big 2nd half challenge playing into a strong wind. Main damage was done in that 3rd quarter when we struggled to win our own puckouts. Realt punished us scoring 1-4 to 0-1 in that period.
Inter hurlers good win but both junior teams lost
AHL3 St Sylvesters 1-19 Scoil UiChonail 0-10 Very solid league opener for the Inters, Alan Kenny and Diarmuid McCarthy lording the middle, our backline holding the Scoil forwards, Enda back to his best and Martin Ormonde and Ciaran Falvey the pick of the forwards. Unfortunately Gregs juniors were beatan at Drimnagh Castle by Realt Dearg and the Bs came up against a good Towers team in the afternoon.
Minor hurlers win high scoring encounter
MHL2 St Sylvesters 4 - 11. Thomas Davis 4 - 7 The Syls boys got off to a slow start here in rain soaked pitch 1 in Broomfield . Playing against a strong breeze the Syls mentors took a gamble by going all out for a couple of early goals. This didn't work out for Syls as we conceded a couple of soft goals midway through the first half so plans had to change
junior hurlers win over Raheny
Classic game of two halves, 10 points to nil for Syls at HT. 1-5 a piece in the 2nd half, but ran out comfortably enough winners in the end.(1-15 to 1-5). Syls fielded a very young team , 10 or 12 starting players under 20. However the introduction of Ciaran Murray brought the average age up a tad ..! Highlights were Sean Foleys display at full back and a very skilful full forward line of EoinMc, Daniel Murphy and Seanie Graham Team: David Kennedy, Killian Roberts, Sean Foley, Eoin Ryan , Ciaran Murphy, Ronan Kennedy, Colm Boran (0-7 f), Mikey Meaney, Jodi Hickey, Shane Mc Shera, Johnny Conway, Eoin Kennedy, Sean Graham (1-1), Eoin Mc Carthy (0-4), Daniel Murphy (0-3), Russie Cleere for Ciaran Murphy, Ciaran Murray for Killian Roberts, Airy Cleere for Shane Mc Shera
Junior hurling going well in D5 and D8
Both junior hurling teams recorded wins at home on Sunday, Greg's team in D5 winning well over Raheny by 1-15 to 1-05 while the B team beat Commercials 1-12 to 0-09 in Division 8.
Inter hurling v Towers match abandoned
AHL3 Round Towers C v St Sylvesters The match was abandoned after about 25 minutes because one of the Towers lads dislocated his knee and we had to wait for an ambulance. We wish him well. It was great that we had Fergus Byrne in attendance and he administered professional aid which limited the damage. We were behind by three points at the time but one really bright aspect was Dan Murphy's very lively display at corner forward.
Congratulations to Ballyboden and Na Piarsaigh
Great display by Boden in winning the All Ireland Club title, congratulations to Andy McEntee and all concerned. I particularly like that four promoinent hurlers played in the final and their club have consistent success in both codes. The Limerick lads in the club were celebrating Na Prarsaigh win and are hoping it bodes well for the year ahead, maybe it will.
Junior B hurlers win at Drimnagh Castle
Danny and Jim took their charges to the southside for a great start to the new season.. It is a great achievement to have developed a third adult hurling team last year and it will stand to us as we progress to regaining and sustaining our senior hurling status so hats off to Danny and Jim and their players. AHL 8 --Drimnagh Castle -- Sunday 6th March 2016, 3:00 p.m. throw-in St Sylvesters 2-13 While I'm at it I must give great credit to Realt Dearg, a new club fielding teams in AHL6, AHL8 and AHL9. I have no doubt they will be a force in Dublin Hurling over time and I wish them well, I love what they are doing.
Senior Hurling B Championship
Tough group for Syls in SHC B - Marnóg, Finbars, Vincents, Boden, Crokes - also competing in Junior C and Junior F
Minors hurlers field two teams - just pipped in both
MHL2 St Sylvesters 0-12 Fingallians 2-09 A goal fives minutes into over time was unfortunate from our perspective as we had spent the wh.. A great display byole second half fighting our way to draw level only to lose out tat the death. A great display with a very understrength team against a pretty decent looking Fingallians with lots of good hurlers. For the firat time ever we fielded a second Minor hurling team but they jsut lost out by two points to Castlenock
Mixed results on a busy weekend
The Inter Hurlers had an impressive 11 point win over Na Fianna in the Corn Ceitean while the Inter Footballers lost by a single point to Fingallians in the Loving Cup. Junior hurlers ;lost by a couple of goals to Kevins in Corn Fág a Bealach, Junior As drew with Erins Isles in the Conlon Cup and the 4ths continued their good form from last season with a 2 point win over Pats Donabate in the Murphy Cup. Our Minor A Footballers were unlucky to lose by a point to Vincents in D2 League but our second minor team had a win over Whitehall.
Hurlers open with a win
Corn Ceitean St Sylvesters 2-18 Na Fianna 1-09 Solid all round display on a cold windy afternoon in Broomfield. We had the wind in our backs in the opening half and took full advantage, Simon in particular in good form with some great fielding and a goal and a few points. Diarmuid McCarthy lording the middle and well supported by Alan Kenny, the half back line of Killian O'Flynn, Conor Ryan and Dave McElligot well on top and we led 2-12 to 0-04 at the break.

Junior B Hurlers win Division 9 Top 4
AHL9 T4 Final Raheny 0-13 St Sylvesters 2-11 What a great year for our third adult hurling team and hats off to Danny O'Connor and Jim Wardick for their perseverance in getting this team off the ground. Bernard will send a report and hopefully some pictures.
Heartbreak for Minor Hurlers
Report from Anthony attached. . . . MHC C Final St Sylvesters 1-12 Ballyboden St Endas 3-07 AET Smashing game of hurling in wet windy conditions at O'Toole Park, led by two points with 3 minutes remaining in extra time only for the Boden 11 to take a high ball and evade our defence for a brilliant goal from which we couldn't recover. The lads should be very proud of themselves, There was good Syls support, obviously disappointed for our team and fair play to Boden, they were great opponents.
U21 hurlers lose late to Faughs
Two point loss in a lively game in awful conditions in Broomfield. We led for 55 minutes after a very good first half with the wind behind us.
Junior B Hurlers on course for promotion
AHL9: (Promotion Semi-Final ) Syls 3-9 Scoil Ui Chonnaill 2-4 Sun 22nd Nov 2015 Broomfield Scoil under the stewardship of Tommy Naughton showed up with serious intent written all over their warm-up. Syls are familiar with Scoil having played together last year in a combined Syls/Scoil minor team. But Syls were not phased by this and effectively won the match with a blistering first half display, scoring 3-7 to Scoil’s single point. The pick of the scores was another goal bound rocket from Declan Markey and a delightful point from Hugh Murray
Junior A Hurlers fall at last hurdle
AHL6: (Promotion Final ) Whitehall 2-12 Syls 1-13 Sun 22nd, Nov 2015 Cloghran. Disappointment all round as Whitehall once again prove to be our bogey team and deny us a long awaited promotion to Div5. We struggled to find our rhythm in the opening half and the concession of frees saw us trail by 3 points at HT. A much improved showing in the 2nd half, which we won a by a point, despite leaking 2 goals goes to prove that we have the capability, just need a more consistent delivery of it.
Minor Hurlers into C'ship Final
MHC C SF St Sylvesters 6-14 St Olafs 2-07 Syls minors progressed to the minor hurling final in two weeks time to play Ballyboden St Endas in a pulsating match played at Bray Emmets grounds this morning. Olafs won the toss and opted to play into the wind in the first half . Syls boys got off to a reasonable start with two early points . Olafs responded with a point . Then Syls hit the net twice with two quick goals and started to dominate from that point in the game. The halftime score was Syls 4 goals and 9 points to Olafs 5 points .
Hurlers in playoff for AHL5
AHL6: (S/F Promotion Playoff) Realt Dearg 1-8 Syls 2-12 Sun 8th Nov 2015 Drimnagh. In dreadfully wet and windy conditions, Syls coped the better, coupled with a solid performance throughout the game gave us a well-deserved win. Eoin Kennedy delivered a very consistent effort throughout, picking off 2 points in each half. Sean Graham wreaked havoc, especially in the first half, scoring 3 points, setting up Martin Ormond for the goal and only an excellent save denied him another goal. His touch and control was outrageous considering the conditions.
Senior Hurlers relegated
After a season where we never seemed to catch a break, losing many senior players to injury and travel, we are now relegated back to Inter Hurling having lost on Saturday to Faughs. We have brought through enough players to feel we can come back up, I wasn't at the game yesterday but, apart from Na Fianna and Crumlin, I felt we were generally comfortable at this level and I hopewe can quickly regroup. Credit is due to Leonard, Declan, Pat and Eamon Bryce for our first year in Senior League
