An Update from the Chairman
The Officers and Executive of the club will hold a meeting in late October/early November to update all members on our progress to date towards the goals we outlined at the AGM and to layout the future challenges facing St Sylvesters. Prior to that meeting, I would like to share a high level update on the work currently ongoing. Most of the progress outlined below has been funded from our ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ Fundraiser.
Johnny Grimes RIP - long time Syls player and supporter
We are sad to report the death of Johnny Grimes, a long time player, member of the famous 1963 Junior Championship team and the team that brought Senior Football to Malahide in the early '70s. Johnny will be sadly missed and we extend our condolences to his family and friends. A lovely quote from Eddie Moore "From stories I heard in the past and from my experience of my own playing days with Syls I will say that off the pitch Johnny was a very quite thoughtful man. On the pitch Johnny Grimes looked after every player. No one ever bullied a Syls player while Johnny Grimes was around. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
Mickey Whelan Coaching at Syls
Mickey Whelan has agreed to hold a coaching workshop for the benefit of all St Sylvester's coaches and mentors. This session will be held on Friday 31st October in the club house on Church Road. A large attendance at this event would be greatly appreciated. More details to follow, however please put this date in your calendar now and please pass on to any other coaches or mentors whom you think might be interested. Regards, Ernie
Sheila Moylan RIP (Matt's wife)

St Sylvesters Golf Classic - Oct 17th
The Ryder Cup will be followed by a real classic - The St Sylvester's Golf Classic takes place in Malahide Golf Club on Friday October 17th. The event this year will be a shotgun start with teams for four battling it out for some terrific prizes on one of the finest parkland courses in the country which thankfully is right on our doorstep. The golf will be followed by a sit-down dinner in Malahide Golf Club and presentation of prizes . . . . and later that night the DVD launch of “Strictly Syls” will take place back in the St Sylvester’s clubhouse on Church Road.
History of St Sylvesters GAA Club
Attached is a short history of St Sylvesters compiled by Ashley White. I had a small history of Malahide before and will resurrect. I also have some old pictures in the Scrapbook Gallery and some other old pictures in a Scrapbook section but it would be really nice to build on Ashley's work and I would welcome any contributions either by email to info@stsylvesters.ie or simply commenting on this article. Thanks Ashley.

We played Mearnógs in minor hurling earlier in the Summer and I remember Con wishing us a good game, which we had. St Sylvesters send our condolences to Mary and Cons family and we'll remember Con for his support and friendship. Ar dheas Dé go raibh a anam.

A hectic round of championship matches over the weekend left smiles on many faces, with the men’s seniors and intermediates moving on to the next stage of their respective championships. The senior team were good value for their 1-9 to 0-9 win over St Maur’s while the intermediates showed great spirit in finally getting the better of a game Clann Mhuire after extra-time to advance to the quarter-finals
Ghost Buster Returns
While the rest of us were gallivanting around the Naul and Margarets and Parnell and jigging and reeling Bren was in Broomfield weeding the garden.
