All Ireland Ladies Sevens - Another Huge Success
The All Ireland Ladies Sevens competition was held jointly by St Sylvester's & Naomh Mearnog on Saturday last and was another resounding success. 110 teams from the 32 counties, the UK and mainland Europe all travelled to our grounds to participate in the 2011 competition. As usual, there was brilliant support from Sylvester's club members across the club to ensure that we put on a good show. I would like to pass on a huge thanks to Mick Stewart and Enda for their preparation of the pitches and dressing rooms. To Suzanne, Carol Morris, Louise, Liz, Susan, Margaret Carney, Carol Ryan, Carol Walls and Jan for the catering. To Gerry, Noel, Karl and Redmond for manning the car parks. To Anthony Cooney for his huge support again this year. To Paul Reinhart on maning the electrics and John Daly on the clean up operation. To Angela Aherne on her brilliant co-ordination of events across the pitches and to the U/16 girls as ball-girls.

U13s lose to strong St Brigids
U13 Football – Division 1 Sylvesters 2-06 Brigids 4-11. A game of two halves, dominated by a strong breeze blowing into the Bridgefield car park goals. In their last outing Brigids had beaten the second placed team in Division one by 19pts. Until the last 10 minutes the match had stayed really close until Brigid’s superior physique resulted in a number of late goals from their two tearaway midfielders.
Girls take the Junior Championship
LJFC St Sylvesters 6-09 St Maurs 4-06 Congratulations to the Sysl Ladies taking the Junior Championship after the second attempt since re-forming. Nine points looks like a good margin but it was a lot closer for much of the second half and the girls had to dig deep to overcome a plucky Maurs side who played some fine football and were back to three before we finished it out with three points and a goal. Congratulations to Sinead Aherne awarded Player of the Game. Well done also to Aimee Hazely, Syls captain, who gave a very gracious acceptance speech. See attached report and pictures.

Well done girls.

The Dublin Senior Ladies and our own Sinead Aherne were unlucky to bow out of the championship by a 1 point defeat to Cork in a tight quarter final game on Saturday. The Sylvester's Ladies team take on Kilmacud Crokes in the league on Wednesday in Pairc de Burca at 7pm. Their championship final is set for Wednesday, the 7th September, against St Maurs, with Fingallians GAA Club the likely venue.
Dublin Ladies bow out at Birr
I don't see the report yet but I hear The Jackies were overtaken late in the All Ireland Quarter Final by great rivals Cork and end their reign as All Ireland Champions.
Sylvester's Girls Win In Cup
The girls team welcomed St Margaret's to Broomfield on Wednesday evening last in the Cup and won by 4 points. It was a strong battling performance from the girls throughout to earn their victory. What was most pleasing was the performance of the younger additions to the squad who are really taking to adult football as the get their chances over the holiday period. Well done to all involved.

Sylvester's Girls Off to World Cup in OZ
Aimee Hazely and Sinead Tracey from our Ladies team have been selected to line out for Ireland in the Aussie Rules World Cup in August. This is both a great achievement and honour for the girls and for the club to represent Ireland. Sinead captained the Dublin Juniors to All Ireland glory in 2010 and Aimee hopes to follow that feat this year as she is a vital part of the Dubs Juniors in 2011. Both girls make up a dynamic midfield partnership for the Syls Ladies Team and have been inspirational in helping the team reach the championship final again this year, which will be played on the 7th September.

St Sylvesters Hurling Camp July 2011
Another successful Hurling Camp for u10 to u14with participants from St Sylvesters, Skerries Harps, O'Dwyers and Trinity Gales has just concluded. We were delighted to have two inter county players Shane Ryan (Nh Mearnog) and David O'Callaghan (St Marks) both who played in Croke Park v's Kilkenny in the Leinster final last Sunday, to deliver the camp.
Super Syls Girls Reach Championship Final
Our adult girls team put in a super performance last night against Thomas Davis, at Kiltipper Road, to reach the championship semi-final. Clashes with the Davis girls are always tough and this one was no different, but the girls put in a serious shift to edge out their opponents. We started well, building up a 3 point lead, but Davis came back at us to get within 1 point after 15 minutes. Aimee, Louise and Sinead T dominated at midfield and gave us a great platform to attack their goal. Sinead Aherne knocked in a goal with one of her cool trademark finishes followed up by 2 more points to give us a 1-5 to 0-3 lead at the break.
SYLS GIRLS BEAT RAHENY IN LEAGUE
The adult girls team avenged last seasons championship final defeat with a great win against Raheny, in the Intermediate League, on Wednesday night in Broomfield. After the exam break, the girls took little time to get into their stride, with some fine scores from Nicole, Diane, Niamh Lawlor, Orlaith and Sinead. However Raheny got back in the game through some fine points from their new county star Siobhain Woods as our defence were put to the test on a number of occasions.
U13s lose at the death to Lucan
Lads were behind by 4 points at half time playing against a stiff breeze, so things looked very promising for the 2nd half. We were camped on their 21 for most of the 2nd half but didn’t manage to convert it to scores. Game was level in injury time when we got caught out by a late late injury time goal , Anthony was not too pleased ( see photo !) Great game to watch, super skills on display by both teams. U13s on again tonight, definitely worth a visit. Final Score 4-7 to 4-4
Dubs (Syls) Aherne "makes Irish Leaving Cert Paper"..
A piece from the Ladies website - www.dublinladiesgaelic.ie Dublin’s Sinéad Aherne has achieved a fair view honours and won many awards during her football career and has rightfully been acclaimed as one of the greatest forwards to have donned the Sky Blue jersey and is often spoken off in the same terms as Dublin scoring legends as Brogan, Keaveney and Rock. Politician John Hume was recently voted “Ireland’s Greatest” in a public poll conducted by RTÉ.
U14 Girls – Div 3 League Champions
After many years of looking after Boys teams, I took my first steps at the beginning of this season into the ‘scary’ world of Girls Gaelic football. I jest of course. At the beginning of this season I took over as Manager of the Girls u14 football squad. The squad only has 7 actual u14 players but thanks to the help of the u13 squad we had a group of 18 or so extremely talented footballers. Once I got over the shock of the chitter chatter (my goodness girls do like to talk) we embarked on our journey together. The season started really well with comfortable victories over Na Dubhgall, St Finians and Parnells. Next up were a home and away fixture versus St Peregrines and these 2 games were to prove to be our stiffest test of the season.
Girls Win Through to Championship Semi Final
The adult girls team defeated Man O War away on Wednesday night to book their place in the championship semi-final. In difficult conditions the girls had to dig deep against strong opposition to secure the win by 1-11 to 0-11. Our defence stood strong again with solid performances from Michele Walls, Niamh Gallagher and Leah Harold. Niamh Harney scored the goal that made the difference, and Lisa McIntyre saved a last minute penalty to secure the win.
U16 Div 2 League Final
The U16 girls won their last 4 Div 2 Final game leaving them level on the top of the table with Fingallians. The game followed the very successful Mini All Ireland's in Broomfield. Final score Syls 2-6 Fingallians 2-4. See Table below. Eddie
UNDER 13 GIRLS FOOTBALL
Syls U13 Girls continued the good league performance with an impressive away against Ballinteer St Johns. This win secures Syls position in the Top 4 playoffs in a very strong Division 1 league. The play-offs will be very tough against the cream of Dublin U13 football, Foxrock / Cabinteely, Ballyboden and Kilmacud but they deserve the opportunity. The girls have performed brilliantly since gaining promotion last year and this dedicated squad continue to progress in the right way.
Syls Girls March on in Championship With 3 Goal Star Nicole
We said this game was going to be a cracker, and on Wednesday evening in Broomfield, that is exactly what we got. Games between the Syls girls and Thomas Davis are always hard fought tight affairs and it was only 2 points that separated the teams, in Syls favour, after 60 minutes.
Girls U16 D2 Final
The time of the Girls U16 Div 2 League Final on next Sunday 22nd May 2011 in Broomfield, Syls V Fingallians has been changed to 6pm Le meas, Eddie
Adult Girls in Championship Action on Wednesday 18th May
This Wednesday in Broomfield, the adult girls host Thomas Davis in the 2nd round of the Championship at 7.30pm. This game promises to be a cracker as previous fixtures against each other has shown. Syls girls beat the Tallaght girls in last years semi-final with a late goal and we expect this game to be close all the way. Lets get up in big numbers and cheer on the girls. They deserve a big Malahide support on the night.
U16 girls second in Div2 - 3 on Dublin squad
The U16 girls are nearly finished their League Campaign. They are second in the table of eight to Fingallians in the U16 Div 2 with 22 points (three points for a win). Fingallians are on 25 points. In the last few weeks the teams have been involved in a top 4 bottom 4 extra round of matches.
