Never say die attitude edges minor hurlers over the line
Our minor hurlers completed a clean sweep for all CCC2 hurling teams with a tense 1 point victory over Round Towers Clondalkin. Similar to the under 16 game the day before our players dug deep when needed the most and demonstrated an ability to score goals at crucial times which ultimately tipped the game in our favour. We played most of our best hurling in the opening 20 minutes when we racked up 1-6 from play. Despite the strong start the lads will be disappointed with fading out of the game for large parts and had to rely on a late goal to snatch victory. Kevin McLoughney and Stephen Cunningham can be especially pleased with their days work as both worked tirelessly and made vital contributions. It was great to see a large turnout from family and club supporters. Long may it continue.
AJ and Dan to the fore as U12s win well at Finglas
U12F Erins Isles 1-3 St. Sylvesters 5-12 Syls U12As bounced back from their defeat to St. Vincents in impressive fashion against Erin’s Isle in Finglas last week. In a new look attack featuring regular defenders Daniel Deneher and Osian Dullaghan, the Syls boys were quick out of the traps, racking up 3 points before Erins could muster a shot on target. The first two of these were poached by Daniel, clearly relishing his new role further up the field. Phelim Butler quickly added a point and a goal either side of a goal from the home side. Deneher then added a goal to his tally as the Malahide boys built up a comfortable half time lead of 3-8 to 1-1, the third goal coming courtesy of a well placed shot from AJ McCabe.
Early dominance sees Minor Hurlers win
Our minor hurlers recorded their first 2 points of the campaign with a hard working victory against St. Finbarrs in Broomfield. Foundation for the win was laid in the first 20 minutes when we raced into an early lead, notching 2-5 to no reply. Best for Syls were Derek Morris who was deadly accurate from placed balls and Sean Kane who as ever worked tirelessly for the full 60 minutes.
U12 down to earth with a bang
Under 12 Football 12 Mar 2011 St. Sylvesters 1-4 St.Vincents 3-13 After their rousing victory against Raheny the previous week, Syls U12A came down to earth with a bang at Bridgefield last Saturday. The boys came up against a very well drilled and determined St. Vincents team who moved into top gear from the throw in.
Good start for Minor As
MFL 1: St Sylvesters 2-9 St Vincents 1-5. I Nice to see us win our opening league at Minor, pretty solid looking team with a few representatives on the Dublin panel (Fionn Cahill, Conor Meaney, Eoin Boyne, more?).
A sharp and determined performance by Syls U-12
U12 Raheny 1-6 St. Sylvesters 2-14 A sharp and determined performance by Syls U-12 A on Saturday secured a well deserved win against a strong Raheny side at St. Ann’s Park. Syls controlled most of the play in the first half, despite playing into a stiff wind. Slight over elaboration in front of goal and some wayward finishing prevented Syls from building up a comfortable lead. However, they did pick off some nice scores, one in particular that started from a well placed pass from goalie Harry Barnes through to Daniel Denneher and onto half forward Bobby McCarthy who finished neatly
U12s beat the rain and take to the beach
With all pitches closed and most matches postponed Brian Barnes and the U12 squad were still determined to get in some early season training last weekend. So it was down to Portmarnock beach where most of the lads assembled to take advantage of the sunny Saturday morning sea air. They ran up and down the dunes, did some drills and had an enjoyable training game while bemused joggers, strollers and dog-walkers looked on. They managed to not lose anyone in the dunes but they stopped short of a dip in the sea although the water did look inviting !
Minor B Footballers in C'ship Final
Our Minor B footballer's remain unbeaten in both league and championship after a convincing win against Na Fianna in the championship semi-final. It was tight enough until the 25th min but then we found the net twice before half time. This seemed to break Na Fianna's spirit although they tried to lift their game in the 2nd half our lads kept the pressure on and were ruthless in pursuit on possession and scores.
Minor B's Secure Top Spot
Our Minor B's footballer's continued their good form with a hard fought win aginst Castleknock. The match was in the melting pot up to the last 10 mins when Stephen Cunningham broke through for a goal and then a couple of minutes later David Kennedy converted a penalty after Kevin O'Flynn was taken down.
Minor Bs clear their first hurdle
MFC St Sylvester's 4.15 Lucan Sarsfields 1.4 Our Minor B team got their championship off to a flying start with a comprehensive win over Lucan Sarsfields. The lads stuck to our game plan and hit Lucan early on with a couple of goals. From the first minute to the last minute all 20 players that played never let up and put in a huge effort. The score line would indicate an easy match but the real difference was our fitness, our defending and the speed the ball was moved into our forwards. This group of players had trained very hard for this game and they got their reward. Next game away to Cuala where we expect a much tougher test!
Dublin Community Games Finals - Santry - 3rd/4th July 2010
St Sylvesters GAA club were well represented at the 2010 Dublin Community Games Finals held in Santry Stadium on Sat/Sun last as the Malahide team had one of its most successful years ever. As the tired athletes adjourned to the clubhouse on Sunday evening they could be proud of the fact that their efforts had helped Malahide to achieve 3rd place in Dublin in the overall award . .

Minor Bs win over Na Fianne
Our Minor B Team kept their unbeaten record alive with a convincing win against Na Fianna. We have a small panel so we have integrated some of our u16 players into the panel. This has helped create a healthy competition for places. The work rate against Na Fianna was impressive from start to finish and though the result was in no doubt 10 mins into the 2nd half our effort was relentless as players were playing for a place on the team. There is a break for 6 weeks but we intend to continue with our strength and conditioning training with a couple of challenge games organised to keep us match fit. Best if luck to our U16s in the championship semi final.
Minor Bs go top with fine win at Fingallians
Our minor b's moved to the top of the league with a convincing win against local rivals Fingallians 2.15 to 1.7. The lads have worked extremely hard in training and in challenge games leading up to this match.
Minor A footballers draw at Kilmacud
In a weekend of draws the the Minor A team drew 2-05 to 1-08 out in Kilmacud Crokes today to get their first point of the league. We where reduced to 14 men just after half time and battled well to get the draw. We had a chance to win it with a late free that went wide but a draw was a fair result. Panner
Hurlers entertain Bredagh from Belfast
Bredagh brought two hurling teams to Broomfield on St Patrick's morning - the minor game was drawn and Syls won an excellent U14 game by a goal or two (with a little help from our U15s). We fed the lads back at the club thanks to some of our parents and Gary and Eoin. Thanks to Colm O'Connor for organising.
Minor Bs secure a draw against strong Ravens
Syls 3.10 Fingal Ravens 4.7 - Syls Minor B's played our first competitive game against a strong and physically bigger Fingal Ravens side.Our Syls Minor B team is an u17 team so we expect to come up against bigger teams and that's exactly what we got against Ravens.
U11 footballers win over Ashbourne
Some of the most impressive juvenile football I have seen in Syls for a long while, the U11s had two good wins over an equally fine Ashbourne teams. I must get some reports on these lads from Brian Barnes, Paul Reinhardt or John Cross, they are a well kept secret but well worth watching both Syls U11 teams.
Close Encounters on St. Valentines Day in Tyrrellspass
On Sunday 14th February 2010 the U16 Girls and the Minor boys travelled to Tyrrellspass for the Denis Glennon Memorial matches. The two buses left Broomfield at 9.00am and arrived in Tyrrellspass ahead of schedule. The whole trip was covered by a Local man Pat Feery on a video/DVD which will be available soon.
St Valentines Day Trip Tyrrellspass
Syls new minor team managed by Chris Ryan & Panner are due to travel together with the new girls U16 team parents and supporters for two games in Tyrrellspass on Sunday 14th February 2010. The games are to remember Denis Glennon Snr. (Father of Ann Uí Mhordha) with the Denis Glennon Memorial Cup. Denis Glennon 1919-2005 played for Offaly in the 1930,s and 1940's together with his two brothers Paddy & Jack Glennon. They were all from the famous Rhode GAA club in Offaly.
Minor hurlers take league title
MHL Div4 St Sylvesters 2-8 St Vincents 1-6. In an almost forgotten league, Syls beat our arch rivals St Vincents in a very entertaining game at Broomfield. We started very slowly (not surprising as, except for yesterdays U16 game we haven't played for months) but got ourselves into the game, scored couple of goals from U16s Thomas Richardson and Gareth McGrath and were pretty comfortable in the end. Special word of congratulations to Declan Morris and Niall Clarke who have worked with these boys for the last 9 years - nice to finish on a win.
Chris Ryans Minor B team win in a cracker
Minor Football F Championship Final - St Sylvesters 0-13 Kilmacud Crokes 1-9. What a great game on a beautiful morning at Ringsend. The lead changed hands many times but was level going into injury time. A great clearance down out left wing was superbly won by Garret McGrath about 35 yrd out, he transferred to Sean Halligan having a stormer in the second half who was fouled by his marker. Up stepped Fionn Cahill with a point from far out on the left and all hell broke loose.
Heroic Effort Not Enough for U11 girls
Syls U11 Girls were defeated in the Championship Semi-final by St Brigids on Saturday in Broomfield. Brigids played with the wind in the first half and got a great start with a couple of nice points and then were awarded a dubious goal which was deemed to have crossed the line much to the consternation of the Syls defence. Some great defending by Syls kept the deficit to six points at the break. In the 2nd half, Syls pushed forward relentlessly but found scores hard to get. Brigids defended strongly in what was becoming an absorbing encounter. Despite owning the ball and the game being played almost totally in the Brigids half of the field, we just could not get the breakthrough. The Syls girls were very upset at the end of a game that they could have, and probably should, have won, showing just how much the game meant to them. We wish Brigids the best of luck in the final.
Minor Bs win but As lose minor championship
MFC A : Brigids 2-10 Syls 0-9 - couple of late goals was our undoing - must beat Crokes in final game and hope for a Brigids win or draw over Boden to qualify. MFC F : Syls 4-18 Cuala 1-3 - Chris Ryans team comfortably through to the next round with an impressive display at Broomfield.

A late late goal from Mark Woods saved a draw in the Minor A round robin against old rivals Ballyboden.
Sweeney pips Aherne for Dublin honour
Hearty congratulations to Gary Sweeney on being awarded Dublin GAA player of the month for July 09. Ironically he pipped our own Sinead Aherne who also put in a fabulous display in the Ladies Final. Since he was a young lad Sweeney has displayed great skill and football intelligence and has an ability to carry the ball at speed while surveying the field around him, a skill possessed by the likes of the Gooch, Alan Brogan and Declan O'Sullivan.
Minor lose in stop start effort
The Minor A team lost by 8 points to Na Fainna in Broomfield in a game that mirrored the lazy summer evening - we played, we stopped, we started again - seemed like we weren't too sure whether or not we wanted to win this one. Na Fianna lead by 1-5 to 0-0 at half time and eventually won by 3-8 to 0-9.
Street Leagues Finals - Another Wonderful Day for Syls
Well, we did it again - 200 players, 17 games, 34 teams, grannies, grandads, burgers, ice cream, bouncy slides . . . and the weather showed up just right. Sylvesters Annual Street Leagues Finals was another great day for our club and for the Community. Hearty congratulations to Ciaran Meehan and his team for a job very well done. Girls U10 - our newest best team
Sylvesters Girls nursery have delivered their latest team of players and the U-10 team have been playing games for the last few weeks. For most of the girls this has been their first time to pull on the Syls jersey and they have thoroughly enjoyed the games.
