Inters win at Garristown

AFL3 Garristown 0-10 St Sylvesters 2-11 A penalty scored by Ciaran McArdle (wouldn't some of the teams in South Africa love to have Ciaran) and a second half goal from Mannix Ryan were the big difference but it sounded like we were really further ahead in general play.

Seniors win again at Parnells

AFL1 Parnells 0-9 St Sylvesters 1-10 - a few changes from the Plunket's game but the same impressive result. The .win was built on the same solid defending we have come to rely on, no mistakes when it mattered, an excellent mid-field and a lively forward division.

Inters battle but lose by a point

AFL3 We lost by a point to St Finbars at Broomfield in a game where we seemed to be well out of it in the first half but went in only two points down at the break.

Great comeback by senior footballers

AFL1 St Sylvesters 3-8 St Oliver Plunketts ER 1-8 Interesting display by our lads. We gave up a goal from the throw in, pressed hard for much of the first half into the school end but still trailed 1-3 to 0-4 at the break. 10 minutes into the second half we were a point further behind and Adam Keaney was unfortunate to be sent off for a second harsh yellow. THEN WE WOKE UP

Seniors reach another VdeP Final

VdeP 2010 SF Thos Davis 2-10 Sy Sylvesters 4-14 Another good win at Kiltipper Rd. Some devastating forward play from Eoin Bennis, Darren Clarke and Micháel McCarthy did the damage. Great support from the Inter team with a senior debut for Darren Burke and appearances by Mark Reilly, Ciaran McArdle and more. We still have to play the 2009 final so maybe we'll have a blitz some evening.

Seniors beat Ballymun in VdeP QF

VdeP QF St Sylvesters 1-10 Ballymun Kickams 1-7 Gabrial was delighted with this win over our local rivals last evening at Broomfield. Short a bunch of regulars (presumably they were also), Jude Sullivan staked a strong claim for a mid-field spot with a fine display, Robbie Wallace made some great saves and the backline of Fionn Carney, Airy, McGurk and Jamie Carr continued our run of strong defensive displays. Up front Aido, Eoin Fanning, and Campers did well. Russy Cleere made his return with 15 minutes remaining and seems to have lost none of his guile.

Seniors over the first hurdle

SFC St Sylvesters 2-14 Round Towers 2-08 Reports were that we always looked in control but let Towers get a little too close at 4 points in the middle of the second half before we pulled away. Seems like Collie McIntyre was back to his best and I heard mention of Airy Cleere's performance at fullback an Aiden Relihan roving out from the full line. See the report from Hill16.ie - Syls too hot for Towers to handle

Gary Sweeney stars in Dublin win

One of Syls veterans of '96 called it the most significant football display ever by a Syls player. High praise indeed and richly deserved after Gary was simply brilliant performance, contributing 1-1 with a fantastic solo goal, an equally great point in the first half and an all round contribution that was almost flawless. He took a couple of heavy knocks but that didn't unduly bother him as he tackled, carried, passed as well as any of the great wing forwards like Dooher or Spillane. It was great to meet all the Syls people on Breffni Park beaming after the game.

Seniors get back to winning ways over Ravens

AFL1 St Sylvesters 2-12 Fingal Ravens 0-7 A very convincing win after a slowish start for the senior footballers, shaking off the loss to Marys last week. We had a lot of new faces starting tonight, testament to the strength in depth we have developed in our teams, and we seemed to get stronger as the game progressed, completely dominating the second half (except for a brief period when Ravens kicked 3 excellent points). Few nice pictures from Mary McNally and David Courtney

Inter footballers win comfortably over Thomas Davis

A very convincing 0-13 to 1-4 win completed a good double for our footballers in Broomfield on Saturday evening. Syls Intermediate Footballers remain the only unbeaten team in AFL3 following a convincing win at home to Thomas Davis. A brilliant defensive display against the wind in the first half and 3 points from Gavin McArdle helped the team to a 6 points to 2 lead at the break.

Seniors pipped at the post in Saggart

Could have won, should have drawn but unfortunate to lose by a late point. Never an easy place to play, we started well, fell away badly, took over for a while but let it slip in the end. This was our first loss of the year and the lads will be a little disappointed not held out for the win. Our support was not the best either, hopefully we will get The Syls out in force for the first round of the Championship next Thursday at Portmarnock against Towers of Clondalkin.

Kilmacud don't show for Senior Football League

A bit bizarre at Broomfield this morning when Crokes failed to show for a Division1 Senior League game. A lot of lads played National League on Saturday evening, theirs and ours, and we also heard that they had a quite a few lads 'tied' for the U21 Leinster Final next week. I'm sure we'll hear more but the Ref was present and expected a game and we were onthe field so I'll let you know how this resolves.

Senior continue winning ways at Drumnigh

Six or seven point margin, something like 2-11 to 1-8 in thsi AFL1 round two game away to Trinity Gaels. As usual this was a tough encounter but we have a very young team who are well used to the rigors of Div1 football and we moved the ball well and we seemed to find space when needed. Two fortuitous goals helped, of course - the first well engineered by Eoin Bennis but he overplayed it only for the ball to bounce straight back to him to finish while the second seemed to bounce of a lot of hands before ending up in the net.

Seniors qualify for Vincent de Paul final (2009)

We beat Marys over in Saggart on Wednesday evening by 0-12 to 0-06 to qualify for the delayed 2009 competition. Yet another excellent defensive display, aided by a solid misfield of John Coughlan and John Murphy (Ross Hazely). Aiden Relihan had his first start of the season and contributed a handsome 6 points(4f), Jude Sullivan at centre forward was also impressive in his all round contribution and scored two good points, Campers, Eoin Fanning, , Jockser and McGurk (a beaut) contributed the other points. Roll on the Final.

Impressive senior league win over Judes

A six point win over county finalists St Judes in the first game of AFL1. It was an encouraging display as we were much more in control than the 0-13 to 0-7 scoreline suggests and featured a number of players who had not been regular starters last season.

Seniors win over Towers

VdeP Sylvesters 2-8 Round Towers (C) 0-8 - or something like that. Bitter cold evening at the 12th Lock in Lucan - starting the season well. A few new faces making a good start to the season including Micháel McCarthy who followed a a good outing last Sunday with 1-3 at Lucan, Fionn Carney had a very solid display in the backline, Gavin McArdle in the half line and Ronan Palmer with a goal.

Four wins good start to football season

The senior football team shook off the cobwebs against county finalists St Judes in the 2010 Vincent de Paul cup at Broomfield with a good win - 1-20 to 0-10 I believe. Both teams were far from full strength but it was an opportunity for lads to get some games under their belts - an opportunity Micháel McCarthy grasped with 7 or 8 points, maybe he'll be challenging Darren and Aiden later in the year. Up on pitch2 he Juniors had a a comfortable 6 point win over Good Counsel in the Conlon Cup. I didn't hear the other results yet but I did spot Niall Halligan cajoling the subs on the Junior1 team. Has Niall ambitions to surpass Deccies successes of last year - stay tuned. - VdeP St. Sylvester's 1-17 St. Judes 0-11 - Loving Cup Ballyboden St. Enda's 0-13 St. Sylvester's 2-08* - Conlon Cup St. Sylvester's 2-09 Good Council 1-04 - O'Brion Cup Cri Ro Naofa 0-08 St. Sylvester's 0-13.

We can now tell everybody that the total number received was 1238 with the overwhelming majority of these statin their opposition to the proposals. Of this total 1012 came from the petition day in the village and also from the letters that were collected in the club

Inter footballers promoted to AFL3

AFL4 Promotion Playoff St Sylvesters 0-10 St Brigids 0-8. We finished the job of winning promotion after leaving it behind us last Feb against O'Dwyers. The game was played on Brigids all weather pitch but that didn't seem to cause us any disadvantage. The game was delayed due to the ref being late but that didn't disturb us either. We played into a cold stiff wind and low winter sun in the first half and gave a super display of sensible football, no mistakes at the back, and enough scores on the break to go in 0-6 to 0-4 down, a good result.
