Minor B Hurlers advance to the Championship Semi Final
MHC D Group 2 Ballyboden 2-14 St Sylvesters 2-4 The Minor B hurlers faced a strong looking Ballyboden side out in Ballycullen in the D Championship on Sunday morning. It was a very tight and close fought encounter for most of the match but we ran out of steam against the wind in the last quarter and got blitzed by 2 late goals and a few points. Despite this we still qualified out of the group on points difference and so get to do it all over again, this time at home v Ballyboden in the Semi Final on Oct 16th.
Inter Hurlers just miss out at Clondalkin
AHL3 Round Towers Clondalkin 2-12 St Sylvesters 1-10 Tight enough game, we made a good second half comeback but Towers finished a little stronger.
Minor Hurlers qualify for B C'ship semifinals
MHC B Gr1 St Sylvesters 3-16 Nmh Marnóg 3-13 Yet another cracking game in Broomfield which we won by the skin of our teeth. We qualified for the semis to meet one of Olafs, Faughs or St Johns. Some pictures attached,
David Magrath Memorial match 16th Oct
The Magrath family have put up a trophy in memory of David, who sadly passed away four years ago. David was a key player on the St Sylvester's juvenile football team that won the club's first championship at under 15 on St Patrick's Day 1990, the under 16 Championship in 1991 and the County Minor Football Championship in 1992. David was on the Dublin Minor Hurling panel which reached the Leinster Final in 1993.

Junior hurlers great comeback against Crokes
AHL6: Syls 1-16 Kilmacud Crokes 1-15, Sun 25th Sept 2016 Broomfield.Whe n you consider that at one stage Crokes were 8 points up, had also missed a penalty, you might be forgiven for thinking a win for Syls was not on the cards. But not for the first time in recent games, this team dug deep to get back into the game and then forged on to win.
Hurlers secure AHL3 status at Bodel
AHL3 Ballyboden St Endas 1-07 St Sylvesters 0-18 Good positive display gave us an eight point over fellow relagation strugglers BallyBoden, Boden drop down and we stay up with three games to play.Bit more confidence in the team this evening, lots of good points from Alan Kenny, Simonm Stephen Keogh, Danial Murphy. Graham was back at fullback and Kev Clarke played out a competitive battle against a handy looking #14. Richie and Enda covered the middle well in an all round decent display.
Minor B Hurlers win again win the Championship
MHC D St Pats D 1-01 St Sylvesters 3-07 Great win again for the minor B hurlers, need a draw or even a narrow loss to Ballyboden in our last group game to qualify for the semi-finals.
Junior hurlers in playoff position
AHL6: Syls 2-12 Civil Service 1-13, Sun 11th Sept 2016 Broomfield. An important win that moves us into the playoff positions. We traded points in the first 20 minutes with Colm Boran orchestrating midfield, providing some fine deliveries that saw Dan & Seanie combine several times to produce a couple of excellent scores. Civil Service deployed 2 big lads at nos 11 and 14 and they did damage with some no-nonsense hurling, high ball, catch, point. We clawed back a HT 3 point deficit to level it at 8 points apiece midway through the 2nd half but the quick concession of 1-2 had us 5 behind in a blink.
Hurlers lose in C'ship at Barróg
SHC B Naomh Barróg 2-13 St Sylvesters 0-10 We dominated the early exchanges but didn't take enough scores from some good ball winning up front. Collie Byrne took most of our scores from frees and , while Tony Dunne took off a string of great saves, Barrógs more accurate forwards hit two goals and some lovely points. We lost Killian to a second yellow mid second half and although we fought hard we couldn't bridge the gap.
Minor B Hurlers win in the C'ship
MHC C St Sylvesters B 3-08 Wild Geese 0-07 Some revenge for a league final loss at Oldcastle, two early goals set us up for the win.
AHL6 v Kevins
AHL6: Kevins 4-14 Syls 1-14 Sunday 28th August 2016 : Dolphin Park Despite the concession of 2 goals we worked our way back into the match and were only 2 points adrift with HT approaching. Unfortunately Kevins scored their 3rd goal on the stroke of HT and all our good work was undone.
Hurling Championship off again
The hurling championship game fixed for this week has been postponed by CCC due to some mixup in fixtures. This is on top of the hurlers getting a walk-over from St Vincents in the league last week and the previous championship game v Vincents called off due to no ref being available.
Junior A hurlers go out to Skerries
JHC-C-Q Final: Skerries 4-18 Syls 0-9, Sunday 14th August 2016 – Skerries The final score-line is a bit harsh on us. We were only 3 points adrift at HT having missed a couple of goal chances. Skerries started the 2nd half with more intent and rattled off 3 points before getting that crucial goal which in truth put the match beyond us. We struggled after that, and even the injection of over 100 years experience..!! in the form of Pat Hoyne, Declan Markey and Derek Roche couldn’t turn it around and in fairness to Skerries (who are a Division ahead of us in the league) they pushed on and ran out comfortable winners.
Junior hurlers lose to Castlenock in C'ship QF
JHC F Castlenock 2-14 St Sylvesters 0-16 Just ran away from us in the last quarter, Castlenock were able to strengthen the team from the line while we had no replacements and just couldn't quite hold onto them. Two early goals put us in the hole, we got back to a point deficit a few times but probably needed the goal to get us ahead and didn't manage one fro a few chances.
Minor Hurlers come up short at Oldtown
MHL5 League Final Wild Geese 1-14 St Sylvesters 2-06 We lost by five points after a fine competitive game to Wild Geese. Syls started well with two excellent early goals from Sean Drumm but the home side picked away at us, their numbers 8 and 12 hitting some excellent points, Brian Murray and Gavin Hydes responding for us. We lost Murray to injury at half time, he looked very uncomfortable and I believe he went for treatment so hope he is ok. That knocked us back a little in the second half but stayed within three points until the last few minutes. Great achievement fielding a second competitive hurling team. Congrats to Wild Geese, they are really pushing hurling in Fingal and great credit to them,
AHL 8 Update - going well
The Junior B hurling team heads into the 3-week competition break in a healthy state. In the league, we had a good win over promotion rivals Wild Geese on 30th June by 0-17 to 1-10 where Colm O Connor’s 11 points were the winning of the game. Immediately after was another league match on Leinster Hurling final morning against Na Gael Oga out in St Catherine’s Pk when Gary Plunkett, flanked by Kieran Canny gave a great full back display in a 0-11 to 1-4 win with Deccy Markey in good scoring form.
Junior Hurlers great win over Na Fianna
AHL6 St Sylvesters 3-14 Na Fianna 4-08 A cracking game by all accounts, Peter caught a few nice pictures.
Inter hurlers lose to Olafs
AHL3 We lsot by 4 in the end but this was a game we easily could have won, we simply hit too many wides at critical times and our heads seemed to drop late in the game. We lost earlier in the week to Finbarrs in the Championship but, unlike that game, I thought we looked the better team on Saturday and was disapppinted the way we fell away. Falvey scored a cracking early goal, Alan Kenny and Dara Flaherty were solid at the back and Killian was the pick of the forwards.
Hurlers lose to Finbarrs
SHC B Nmh Fionnbarra 4-16 St Sylvesters 0-10 Slow start, tight field, we hit a lot of wides in the first half while Finbarrs Dubs star Eamon Dillon was in good form.
Minor A hurlers win again - share top spot
MHL2 I don't see the score posted but I believe we won by a single point over Isles of the Sea (Scoil Ui Conaill and Clanna Gael Fontenoy). The first half had some excellent hurling from both sides and it was great to see some of the minor footballers show up to ensure we had a strong side as it's often hard to field at this time of year.
Minor B Hurlers reach League decider
Congratulations to Jim and John and their Minor B Hurlers beating St Pats (P) in the playoff today to reach the league decider on Wednesday week against Castlenock or Wild Geese. This is our first year to have two minor hurling teams and great credit to everyone involved. Sorry I missed it, will sure we have a photographer at the final.
St Sylvesters Hurling Camp 2016
We had another fantastic week of hurling in Broomfield this week with one hundred and five young energetic St Sylvesters hurlers taking part. This is the largest number we have had over the seven years that the camp is running. It is a tribute to all the hard work being done by the mentors in the juvenile section.
Hurlers pulled back to a late draw
AHL3 St Sylvesters 3-13 St Peregrines 3-13 I love a bit of fast ground hurling and bemoan the rugby style scrummaging that is all too prevalent in the game today so I was both admiring and disappointed of a fast low pull on a rebounding sliothar by the Peregrines wing forward to goal and secure a draw in last nights Inter Hurling game in Broomfield. We led for pretty much all the game, by eight points at one stage, so it was certainly disappointing to drop a point in the end. Conor Meaney was probably our standout player with a few excellent points, Ciaran Falvey had a great game in the corner and the Flarertys and Morrises were solid in defence.
Mannix goal secures hurling championship win
SHC B Gr1 St Sylvesters 1-13 Kilmacud Crokes B 0-14 A very even and well contested game, Crokes led up to about 50 minutes when Mannix fielded a long delivery, wheeled left and blasted a fine goal from about the 21 to give us the lead. Collie Byrne hit a free from over 90 yards and we held off Crokes late charge. Our selection is devestated at this time of year between the Euros, US travel and other reasons. Mannix and Colm Boran stepped up from the juniors and Colm contributed two good points, Anthony, Enda and Graham were very solid at the back, Andrew busy in the middle giving us our second win in the championship. Fionn Carney and Conor Meaney stepped in from the footballers and at least Mikey and Sean Graham from the minors to make this a good club effort.

Junior A’s back to winning ways
Junior A’s back to winning ways after a 2-7 to 1-14 win over Raheny in Junior C Championship. The win was important to keep us in the race for a top 4 finish. A win in our final round robin game against Olafs (Sunday 19th June Broomfield 11:00 ) would guarantee a QF spot. Missing our Minor player contingent due to exams, this proved to be a tough test away from home.
Dan Daneher and Luke Hughes in Celtic Challenge
CELTIC CHALLENGE MATCH REPORTS - WEDNESDAY, MAY 25TH FRI, 27TH MAY 2016 Match Reports from Wednesday's Celtic Challenge Round 4 games: Dublin Clarke 0-19 Westmeath 1-04 Dublin Clarke continued their winning ways with a convincing win over a very well organised and resolute Westmeath side. It was a cagey opening with teams trading scores before Clarke's backs got on top with Hercus Svinghas and Joey Mowlds impressing throughout. A series of well taken score from Kevin Desmond, Luke McDwyer and Billy Ryan saw Dublin Clarke take a lead of 11-4 at the break with Westmeath unlucky not to be closer,

Junior Bs complete a pretty good week for hurling
AHL8 St Sylvesters 0-20 Counsel Gaels 0-15 Lively entertaining game in Broomfield finished off a busy week for our hurlers. Nice mix of experience, Colm O'Connor, Fergus Rooney, Ian McCarrerty, , Billo, Declan Markey and more with Paddy Mc, Killian Haverty, Loyd giving us our fifth full team of the week where we had two minor wins, two junior wins and a loss in Inter and I'm sure we fielded over 80 hurlers in all.
