Syls Hurler Shane O'Connor on Irish Winter Olympics Team

Shane has been picked to represent Ireland in the men's alpine slalom at the Winter Olympics. Although he has represented Ireland in five World Championships, this is Shane's first Olympics . The O'Connors are a busy lot with Colm, Shane and Niall all hurling with Syls and part of our recent successes, Colm coaching our Minors this year, Danny just completed a three stint as Dublin GAA Vice Chair and Gwen a great supporter and organiser with Malahide Hockey Club. Congratulations lads from all at Sylvesters, we wish Shane the very best at Whistler and maybe we'll have one of those big home comings in a few weeks time, here's hoping.

Hurlers finish the year in style

It was only fitting that we have a broad representation of the club hurling fraternity in action for our 23rd Annual St Stephens Day Hurling - from Eamon McLoughney U11 to Pat Kennedy(1965 minor) and many shapes and sizes in between. It was a smashing bright morning but very hard and slippery underfoot and it was a blessing that we escaped without any injuries. A number of footballers chanced their arm today - a stylishly dressed Aiden Relihan, a fit looking Rory Costello (out of Africa I believe), Peter O'Byrne impressed and more.

Tá an áthas orm an chorn seo a glacha ar san foireann Naomh Sailbheastar

Maith an fearr Enda O'Flaithearta, captáin foireann iomána Naomh Sailbheastar. Enda gave us a Joe McDonagh style speech in accepting the Leinster Club Special Junior Hurling trophy after our 2-11 to 1-8 victory over a fine sporting Edenderry team at Broomfield today. It was a victory we fully deserved and caps a great season for Syls Hurling at all grades. Sunday night at the club was special with the Inter Footballers and the Inter Hurlers (with our many dual stars - the same Enda, Alan Morris, David Keogh, Mannix Ryan, Ronan Kennedy, Andrew Richardson) celebrating together. GREAT STUFF LADS. Pats O'Leary capped it all with a song penned specially for the occasion. Syls Abú, tá an áthas orainn go léir.

Hurlers reach Leinster Junior Final

Leinster Junior hurling semi-final St Sylvester’s 1-11 Greystones 0-9 The match was moved to the all weather pitch in Russell Park. We lead from start to finish with a comfortable 6 to 8 point lead from most of the game. An early goal in the second half left us with a 9 point lead. The Greystone’s second half subs added a bit of bite and a few scores but we responded well and kept the scores ticking over. This was a very good team performance and now we face Edenderry next Sunday in the final. The large troop of supporters was well rewarded today and a full battalion will line up for next weeks Leinster Junior Hurling Final. These are the days we dream about.Pictures from the Evening Herald

Junior hurlers miss out on promotion - good year, however.

Tuesday 24th November 2009. AHL 7 Na Fianna 5-5, St Sylvesters 2-6. The junior team now miss out on promotion after this loss to the championship winners in a late night match in Ballymun Kickhams ground. The final score did not reflect the closeness of the contest as with 10 minutes to go we were level and playing with the wind. Conor Keating played well in his first full game after injury while Paul Rafferty and David Donoghue made welcome returns to the Syls jersey at half back and corner forward respectively. Scorers were Cillian O Riordan 1-2, Niall O Connor 0-4 frees and Padraig Kennedy 1-0. A good year overall but a pity to miss out on going up another league.

Hurlers tied after extra time at Ratoath

LEINSTER G.A.A. CLUB SPECIAL HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP 15th November - Ratoath (Meath) 0-21 St Sylvesters (Dublin) 2-15 AET Replay SUNDAY 22ND BROOMFIELD 2.30PM. The game was dominated by a strong cold wind blowing straight down the field and and we never seemed to find the fluency we had achieved at Ayrfield in the Dublin Final. Credit also to the traveling supporters, I think we outnumbered the locals.

Slick Syls storm to junior glory - From The Herald

SUPERSONIC Syls -- stylish, slick and sure. Last night they became the Ayrfield aristocrats -- Dublin Junior 'A' Hurling champions by a distance. A happy journey home to Malahide. . . . and into the Intermediate Championship. Lovely hurling, and a lovely night for it on Blunden Drive. A decent enough crowd at the O'Toole's HQ and no argument at the end of it. Syls in charge from pillar to post. They were solid in all departments, especially at the back.

JHC Final REFIXED Blunden Drive (O'Toole's ground, Ayrfield) on Thursday at 8.30pm.

It was disappointing to see the above postponed yesterday, especially for those players who had family traveling up from Lismore, Ballihassig and Gort. While the club misses out on its day to showcase hurling in the club on such a big day, the squad is more determined than ever to finish the job on Thursday. A dark November night is not ideal for supporters, but players and management will appreciate any support we can get in Ayrfieldon Thursday at 20.30 Syls abú Colm

Hurlers qualify for A Championship Final

We almost got off to a perfect start in very tough conditions but Martin Ormonds 21 yard free well saved by the Faughs Keeper. Martin duly converted the resulting ’65. We had the benefit of the strong wind in the first half & opened up a three point lead. A wonderful long range point from Conor McCafferty was the highlight. Credit to Faughs who pulled themselves back into the game & with 10 minutes to go in the first half there was only 1 point between the teams. However Colm O Connor struck a crucial goal shortly before half time & allowed us to go in 1-06 to 0-04 to half time.

Congrats to Alan McCrabbe and the Dublin Hurlers

A great honour for Alan and all Dublin hurling to be awarded only our third Hurling All Star. All the Craobh Ciaran's guys in the club last night were reclaiming their roots. A big honour for Ciaran's as well of course and well deserved for their contribution to Dublin hurling over the years.

Brave hurlers pipped at the post

Our Junior Hurlers lost this D Championship semi final is a cruel fashion, going behind for the first time with the last puck. Pity, there was a great bunch of lads over at Brigids and they had to hang around for an hour waiting for the Ref. We got out of the blocks well and looked far the better team for a long while but . .
