Minor hurlers lose to strong Plunketts ER
Minor Hurling B Championship St Sylvesters 0-8 Oliver Plunkets 2-10 We exited the championship on Sunday last against a very strong Plunket’s side. Down five points at half time we pulled it back to two ten minutes into the second half. We found it difficult to score and break down the Plunket’s defence, but we worked tirelessly to the end showing the true character this team has displayed over the years.
All Irelands for Syls
Another great haul of silverware for Syls players in 2012 county competitions . . . U21,Minor and Ladies Minor Football winners, Minor Hurling finalists . . . Stephen Cunningham, Kevin O'Flynn, Gary Sweeney, Kim White, Conor Ryan, Fionn Carney . . . . five cups in Malahide over the weekend and we took a few pictures, below. Well done to all and thanks for giving your time to meet the schools and young players.
Junior Hurling Corn Fag a Bhealach. Played Grangegorman 11th November 2012
St Brendan's 1-12, St Sylvesters 1-12. Following a six week break in competition, the team started slowly and Brendan's midfielder Shane Foley was causing all sorts of problems for the Syls defence. Towards the end of the half, Peter Guyatt broke through on goal but was denied by a reflex save by the Brendan's keeper and the half time score was 1-7 to 0-6 for Brendan's.
U21 hurlers win over Craobh
U21 HC B St Sylvesters 1-11 Craobh Ciaran 1-06 U21 is an interesting grade these years, jammed in at the end of the season and this year coincides with the Minor competitions. Because it is only championship we pull teams together every year like a 'rabbit from a hat' and yesterday was no different - Minors, Juniors, Senior footballers, Senior Hurlers (ok, next year) playing together for the first time . . . I have always liked this grade but it has always been difficult for Dublin to accommodate it (going back to the 60's) . . . pity, but I don't have any suggestions . . .
Congrats to Kickhams and Crokes
Congratulations to Ballymun winning the Senior Football Championship after 27 years. There were a lot of Syls lads in Parnell, no doubt planning and plotting how we might scale those same heights. We are the only team to defeat Kickams in any competition, drew after extra time in the VdeP final (replay still to be played) and lost by a point in the league (a result we disputed on the night, thought it was a draw). Good luck to Kickams in Leinster and the All Ireland, no doubt we will cheer you on.
Hurlers lose narrowly to Maynooth
The score in the Intermediate hurling match was Maynooth 0-11 Syls 0-9 It was very even all through the match with the team’s level on 7 points each at half time. Our defence was excellent and restricted Maynooth to very few scores from play. Ronan Kennedy and Graham Morris were really excellent all through the match. Andrew Richardson and Russi Cleere in midfield were at the heart of everything.
Minor hurlers two in a row
MHC B Sylvesters 0-10 Naomh Barrog 1-6 This was a very tight, physical and feisty affair. Conor Dwyer was glad that his helmet offered the protection he needed. There was nothing easy on offer and scores were hard earned by both sides. We battled hard in every position and were deservedly in front by three points with five minutes left. Barrog burst through to score the only goal of the match and level the scores.

Naughton salutes Syls passing Tower test for Inter cert
ST SYLVESTER'S 2-11 ROUND TOWER (C) 1-10 TWO old friends met along the Parnell Park sideline on Saturday evening. Both were wearing bainisteoirs bibs. Emmet Carroll, the Boden Bolt, played for Dublin when Tommy Naughton was in charge of the Dubs. Emmet is making a good fist of his entry into management as Clondalkin's Tower men can look forward to life in the Senior B ranks next season. But it was Tommy who went home with the six numbers as Syls emerged from a pulsating contest that had the big crowd on the edge of their toes.
Hurlers finish the league with a draw
AHL3 St Sylvesters drew with St Judes. Collie Byrne was fetching high balls in the middle, Derek Morris in the corner and many changes from the Championship winning team of last week but we still were not beaten.
Sylvesters join elite band
It was a bit of a topic in the club after the hurlers win last Saturday so Mick Stuart compiled the following: This year, 2012, there are 39 clubs with Senior status in one or both of hurling and football. (Senior status is determined by Championship; Senior B hurling has been included). Of these, 16 have dual senior status, that is, in both hurling and football. They are:
Hurlers Dublin Champions
IHC Final St Sylvesters 2-09 Round Towers Clondalkin 1-08 We weathered a storm and won going away. It was a cracking second half after Syls had dominated the first and led by 1-06 0-02 at the break. The second half was a different story, Towers reeled us in with a goal and a string of points before taking the lead with about 8 minutes remaining. Syls stood tall however, Andrew, Ronan, Darragh winning ball in the middle, Martin and Casey upfront and Gareth McGrath goaled and Martin pointed.
Fingal win All Ireland C Hurling
Final score Fingal 3-22 Cavan 2-10, Danny might provide a report but I gather Fingal well on top from the start. Kevin McLoughney14, Colly Byrne10, Conor Dwyer13, Conor Quinn 7, Karl Stacey29, Brendan Flood ?? 20 Bernard
Dublin Minor Hurlers so unlucky
Brilliant display by the Dublin Minor Hurlers against Tipp, I expect them to finish the job the next day, they were by far the better team.
Inter hurlers into Championship Final
IHC St Sylvesters 1-13 Setanta 2-07 Great win in a great game sees us reach our first Iner Final and Qualify for the Senior Hurling Championship for the first time ever next year. There was a strong wind in our faces in the first half and Setanta opened up a four to one lead in the first quarter but from there on we were probably the stronger team.
Fingal compete in Minor C All Ireland hurling Final

St. Sylvester's have six Players involved next Saturday: Colm Byrne. Conor Dwyer, Karl Stacey, Kevin McLoughney, Conor Quinn and Brendan Flood. Support the lads next Saturday in Ashbourne throw in at 3.30 pm.
Jnr hurlers win over Liffey Gaels
AHL 6 played Wed 22nd in Castle -- Syls 5-11, Liffey Gaels 0-7. The team bounced back from the disappointment of the championship loss to Parnells last wewek with a good win over Liffey Gaels. Liffey started the scoring and after 15 minutes it was 1-2 to 0-3 for Syls, thanks to the first of Derek Roche's three goals and excellent corner forward play by Shane Mc Shera
Hurlers draw again - another exciting game
AHL3 St Sylvesters 3-10 Erins Isles 2-13 Another smashing second half display saw us tie again in the league. Is it my imagination or is the standard of hurling higher and more intense than other years. We took the lead just on 60 minutes when a long delivery was batted out by Dave Casey to Andrew who took it at speed and goaled from 20 metres. There was a nice crowd and a great roar. Isles were awarded a 21 m free and took a point to level it at the death to secure senior status I believe.
Super win for Inter Hurlers
IHC Syls beat Commercials in the Intermediate Hurling Championship Quarter Final by three points this evening. Conditions were very difficult with blustery winds and rain and the standard of hurling was a credit to both teams. I only saw he first twenty minutes where we were quite nervous, missing frees and opportunities with a strong wind in our back. We led by four at the break and it didn't look good when Commercials scored immediately on the restart. Killian and Noel sent a few more pictures - will load later today
Juniors lose by smallest margin
JHC C Syls lost to Parnells by a single point in the quarter final of the C Championship in a game we felt we might have won.
Minors in County Action
Congratulations to Kevin O'Flynn winning a Leinster Minor Hurling medal recently and best wishes for the AllIreland. Best wishes also to Conor Ryan and Scooby Stephen Cunningham, lording the middle for the Dublin Minor Footballers next Sunday in the Minor Football Final in Croke Park.
Costly draw for Inter Hurlers, Juniors win
AHL3 St Sylvesters 0-16 Naomh Olaf 1-13 Last free of the game was just 10 yards too far for Martin Ormande into a strong breeze and we ended up drawing a game we had led throughout. We probably did not make enough of our chances in the first half and a five point interval advantage was quickly recovered by Olafs straight on the restart. We led by three with about 10 minutes remaining but a couple of good long range points pulled Olafs back and we were left with one long range effort to try to win it.
Hurling Camp
Some pictures of the Hurling Camp from Bernard - looks like a fine turnout and well supported by Dublin Hurlers

Minor hurlers pipped at the post
MHL2 St Sylvesters 1-11 Erins Isle 1-12 Isles goaled with the last puck of the game well into injury time to win after we had fought our way into the lead with a goal about 10 minutes from time. It was a pity to see our county players umpiring instead of playing.
Junior hurlers draw at Ballyboden
We drew last night v ballyboden in AHL 6. Wasn’t able to play so took the camera. Pitch made game v difficult but a great game in the circumstances. Ballyboden top of the table so a good result Killian Kirrane
Busy day in football and hurling
Inters won well over Ballymun to secure a place in the Joy Cup semi final and the Junior As followed with the same result in the Parsons Cup. The Junior Bs were very tight for numbers and put up a spirited display but suffered a heavy defeat in Howth in the Sheridan Cup. The Inter Hurlers secured a draw after leading for most of the game at Rathcoole while the minor footballers, minus their county players lost by 5 to Na Fianna. Junior B Hurlers struggled for numbers and lost to Clontarf . A lot of games with a lot of lads away.
Mixed hurling results mid-week
Results w/e 24th June AHL6 Syls 0-17 Erins Isle 2-8 AHL3 Syls 2-12 St Peregrines 2-17 AHL9 Syls 3-13 Castleknock 0-5 Disappointing Inter result against a Peregrines team we had beaten comfortably in the Championship. Colm O'Connor was our scorer in chief in the Junior A game and Pat Hoyne is regaining his touch with the Junior Bs
Historic day for hurling in Fingal area
IT was a historic day in Ridgewood as Fingal minors fielded a team for the first time under Willie Bourke. Their opponents were Armagh who take on Derry in the first round of the Ulster Championship and they were inspired up front by full forward, Mattie Lennon. Lennon, whose father manages the Monaghan senior hurlers, was very much the driving force for Armagh as they built up a 1-10 to 0-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
