U11 Hurlers in Camaint Div1

The boys lost in the Div1 Shield Semi Final at Parnell Park on Saturday and they were not too pleased but it is still a great achievement to hurl at this level. Well done to all the boys and to Eugene Larkin, Dave Shaloe and Paudi Duffy.

Syls represent Malahide in the Community Games U11 Hurling

We travelled to Ballyboden on Wednesday 18th May to take part in the Dublin Community Games Hurling which is played at U11 level. We travelled with confidence having a strong team who have trained well over the last weeks however due to a combination of things we just didn’t have the luck on the night. The 15 a side matches were played on narrow all weather pitches which mean our inclinations to pick and hurl cost us in our opening game. We started against the local team Knocklyon who are backboned by Ballyboden, we led for most of the game but were defeated by a late, late goal. This was a sickening blow for many of the players who lost out to the same team last week in football.

Oliver Plunkets in Fingal Schools Final

St Oliver Plunkett National School Senior Boys took on a strong St Mary's of Ashbourne in the Fingal Schools League Premier Division final in Parnell Park on Tuesday . There is nothing quite like the schools finals in Parnell Park in May and the 400 odd screaming Malahide kids been shepherded by some stressed teachers and a bunch of nervous parents all decked out in the school colours ensured the excitement and noise level was like an All Ireland Final. The bus loads of travelling supporters left the school early with high hopes that this was going to be their year as they have fallen at the final hurdle a few times before in recent years but unfortunately Malahide lost out again in a close encounter.

U11 hurlers defeated by strong Lucan

A fine game on Saturday saw two fine Syls U11 hurling teams take on a strong Lucan outfit. Our well drilled A team battled well against a bigger opposition and John Gleeson, Anthony Cox and David McCornack were prominent with some fine hurling and we lost by a few goals. We fared better in the B game and Eugene Larkin, Dave Sholoe and Paudi Duffy must be commended for fielding two fine teams. Eugene promised pictures as the boys were kitted out in a fine new strip.

U 11 Football - Great wins at Pairc Ciceim - Also News Letter for U11

The U12 football teams put in great performances last Saturday against Ballymun on their superb all weather pitch. This is a happy hunting ground for the second team as we repeated the perfomance of a few weeks back in a pre-season friendly. We decided to play against the strong breeze in the first half and strong kickouts from Mikey Barrett in goals ensured that we managed posession well in the first half as he regularly found Thomas Lynch, Sean Lonergan and Mark Mitchell who all did extremely well in moving the ball down the wings to Jack Larkin and Jack Hennessy to keep us in contention. Jack Hennessy did particularly well in finding the right pass at the right time so we got vital scores in this period.

Jack Boyne is going to Croke Park

While Dublin may have just fallen short in their journey to the All Ireland Final there will at least be one proud Sylvesters player on the pitch on the third Sunday in September. For Under 9 dual player Jack Boyne has been selected to be part of the Guard of Honour on the day, escorting the players on to the pitch. This is not Jacks first venture on to the hallowed ground as he was part of the Syls U8 team which were successful in the Leinster Council Go Games Football Blitz in 2009.

Mini All Ireland Finals - Another great day for Syls and Malahide

So how does Ciaran do it - yet another scorcher for our annual Mini Leagues Finals. Record crowd, 32 football teams, 16 hurling (8 under 9s, very impressive), 20 games, lots of mammies, daddies and grandparents and friends made this yet another great day out for Sylvesters and Malahide and some of the skills on display, both football and hurling were first class. Kudos to all who participated, organized and helped.
