U10 hurlers impress against Whitehall

Our U10 hurlers, desperate for a match travelled to Ballybodens all weather pitch on Saturday to play Whitehall . We played 2 matches, winning one well and losing a tight second game. In the first match Star full forward Eoin Buckley had 5-1 to his name before half time with Tom Hogan, Jack Boyne and Ollie Twomey also showing well. Daragh McLoughney was his usual strong presence, Conor Hoyne and Daire de Burca continue to impress. Euan Farquarson stepped up to this team seamlessly and looks a great prospect.

U10s kick off on all weather in Clontarf

Syls U10 footballers took training literally this Saturday when they travelled to play a challenge against Clontarf on the DART. With the match being played at the sumptuous new All Weather Pitch on the Alfie Byrne Road we did our bit for the environment and had fun at the same time. Despite losing a few players in Howth Junction (never knew there were so many bridges there) we all made it there and back. The match was just as enjoyable and we had 3 great games against a good Clontarf side. First outing of the year and we are already planning our next outing.

U9 Football v. Na Fianna

Our under 9 footballers completed their campaign Saturday morning on Na Fianna’s All weather pitch in Mobhi Road. All 3 teams put in strong performances and played some of their best football of the season. It was great to see how far these boys have come on and we have many potential stars of the future should this rate of progression keep up.

U9 hurlersdo well at Rush

The U9 hurlers made a visit to Rush on Saturday to take on a very good St Maurs side who had won most of their matches this season. Both games were extremely close but in the end Syls ended just on top though Maurs played mush of the better hurling.

U9 football

Our U9 footballers squared up against a very talented St Vincents squad in Malahide Castle last Saturday. All 3 games followed a similar pattern, high energy first half with Syls turning in the lead but running out of steam in the second period as with the bare numbers we could not make any changes. It is to the credit of all players that they kept fighting to the end and this was a performance of much improved attitude with magnificent scores.

U9 Hurling Blitz

The U9 hurlers hosted a 4 team blitz in Malahide Castle on Saturday and despite the state of the pitch, the long grass and the bad weather it was a very successful event with plenty of fast, hard hurling, thrilling scores and skill galore.

U9 hurlers going well

Our first fixture of the season was cancelled just as we arrived at St Peregrines so the U9 hurlers were delighted to finally get back in to action at home to Erins Isle on Saturday morning. Both games were played 10 a side, 20 minutes a half and in both matches we started well and went on to dominate. Hard work in training is showing as the striking and control of all has improved. That added to determination and a great attitude meant we kept going from start to finish, running out as winners in both matches.

Jack Boyne is going to Croke Park

While Dublin may have just fallen short in their journey to the All Ireland Final there will at least be one proud Sylvesters player on the pitch on the third Sunday in September. For Under 9 dual player Jack Boyne has been selected to be part of the Guard of Honour on the day, escorting the players on to the pitch. This is not Jacks first venture on to the hallowed ground as he was part of the Syls U8 team which were successful in the Leinster Council Go Games Football Blitz in 2009.

Mini All Ireland Finals - Another great day for Syls and Malahide

So how does Ciaran do it - yet another scorcher for our annual Mini Leagues Finals. Record crowd, 32 football teams, 16 hurling (8 under 9s, very impressive), 20 games, lots of mammies, daddies and grandparents and friends made this yet another great day out for Sylvesters and Malahide and some of the skills on display, both football and hurling were first class. Kudos to all who participated, organized and helped.

Slow start the undoing of our U9s

Our Under 9 footballers faced a very good Castleknock outfit this Saturday in the Castle. The result (63-67) was a disappointment especially as we won the A match comfortably but went under in the other two.

Syls U9 Hurlers win at Naomh OP/E

St Sylvesters U9 hurlers kept up their winning ways in a hard fought game versus Naomh OP/ER on Saturday. The early morning throw-in probably contributed to the lads slow start and while the standard of hurling was not up to their previous displays they gradually worked their way into the games.

U9 Football - Mar 20th

Due to bad weather, first confessions and teams dropping out the U9 footballers played only their second game of the season on Saturday with a local derby at home to Naomh Mearnog. It was a beautiful morning for football though a stiff breeze did impact on proceeding. All 3 9 man teams gave committed performances and it seems like the training on the all-weather pitch has brought these young players on in leaps and bounds.

Syls victorius in Croke Park

St. Sylvesters Malahide U-8 Football team showed the Dubs how to do it, beating Kildare team Johnstownbridge in the Go Games Tournament held at Croke Park on 2nd July. This was a day that the 10 players and their families will never forget, from arriving on the team coach, to togging out in the dressing rooms, running out the tunnel, warming up in front of the Hill and going on to give an exhibition of football on the immaculate surface of Croke Park.
