Conor Sammon, Fernando Torres, Andy Carroll - centre forwards in the news

Congratulations and best of luck to Sylvesters and Malahide man Conor Sammon on his transfer yesterday to Wigan Athletic in the English Premiership. On a day when Torres transfer cost £50m and Andy Carroll £34m, Robbie Keane cost another fortune, Conor joined an elite group of centre forwards and we're sure he will shine among them. He will also be able to stay with the family when Giovanni gives him the callup, soon we hope Good luck Conor, score lots of goals.

Minor League Semi Final

Our Minor B Footballers are playing in the league semi-final at 7.30 next Monday in the Iveagh Grounds v St Damiens( a mix of Robert Emmett's and St James Gaels)This will be a tough game for us but a win would see us in the final v Fingal Ravens, incentive enough after our defeat in the championship final. Our lads are a very committed squad and all have either one year or 2 years left at minor. All support welcome. Ciaran

The cobwebs are getting a good shaking

Fingal and Wicklow played a lively Keagh Cup game at Swords - Martin Ormande again featured well for Fingal while Alan Morris was mister flexibility playing at m wing back to wing forward but Wicklow stole it with a last second goal. I hear the minors are training in the morning, Dubs style, worth a try, we need to get back into contention in this grade. The U21s have already played a bunch of friendly games (good runout against Raheny this morning), should be a great game at Silver park next Saturday,

Every Junior B team in the country

Goalie - must have 'great goalmouth presence'.... which is secret code for being fat enough to have his own gravitational pull. Always in the 40-50 age bracket, this is a gent that will almost convince you that he played minor for the county in goal, even though the last time he got his knees dirty diving was at a ceili in 1965 when his version of the Hucklebuck went out of control, with numerous casualties. . . . lads, I'm down to re publishing, need something to write about.

DIV1 SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS 2010

AFL1 Final St Sylvesters 0-11 St Judes 1-5 Four years back in Div1, three years in the playoffs, all worthwhile when we finally lifted a major title. Congratulations to all the lads, to Gabby, Colin, Brendan, Jimmy, Ciaran, Declan and everyone who worked so hard to make it happen. I'm going for a pint and get the story straight.

Seniors look strong in League Semi Final win

AFL1 Semi-Final St Sylvesters 1-12 Ballymun Kickams 0-8 Third time lucky as we reach next Thursday's Senior League Final against St Judes after topping the league in regular seasons again this year. We started a little slowly into a cold wind and were 4-2 down after about 20 minutes, Kickams missing a few opportunities to go further ahead. A long ball nicely fielded by Micháel McCarthy on the edge of the squart was finished to the net and we were on our way. A fabulous point by Russy Cleere (we had a great discussion on his swerving shot which somehow defied the wind) and we went in 1-4 to 0-5 up at the break.

Senior Footballers win Vincent de Paul Cup 2009

VdeP 2009 St Sylvesters 0-16 Thos Davis 2-9 Played on the all-weather at Kiltipper, Gabby was delighted with the display having hit 16 points and holding out against a determined Davis in the last 10 minutes. Ross and Jude got special mention for super mid-field displays, Stephen Finnegan winning his first senior medal (along with Fionn, Gavin, Micháel, Niall, maybe more), the now usual solid defending of Beano, Galvin, Cian, and the usual 7 or 8 points from Darren.

Seniors secure semi final spot

AFL1 St Sylvesters 0-18 Na Fianna 0-13 I think we finish top after a fine win over Na Fianna and qualify for Div1 semi final for the third year in a row.. We struggled up the hill and into the wind in the first half and Fianna looked the better team at 0-10 to 0-5 at the break. The second half was a different story, however. Ross (couple of great catches) and John came much more into the game in the middle, the half line of Eoin Fanning, Russy Cleere and Colm Hanratty won all the breaks, Niall Coughlan gave the full line a bit of focus and Darren (even though he pointed a penno) and Micháel were lethal from open play.

Minor B's win again in Championship

Our Minor B's won their 2nd championship match with an away win against Cuala on Sunday. It was an early start and we were a bit slow to get going with Cuala moving a head by a couple of points 15 mins into the game. However we got better as the game went on and we started to dominate in midfield as well as converting more of the scoring changes we were creating.

Seniors go out of Championship

SFC Kilmacud Crokes 0-14 St Sylvesters 1-8 The scoring tally of 14 to 9 probably reflects the general play, we were never out of it, could have grabbed a draw but Crokes just seemed to make it a little easier to pick off scores An early penalty set us up nicely and kept us to level terms at the break, just where we would hope to be. Playing towards the open end in the second half we seemed to shorten our game while Crokes found Cian Sullivan and Brian Kavanagh with fast long ball that yielded the space and scores. Couple of bright points for us - the defense held a talented Crokes division pretty well, Ross Hazely was immense in the middle and Gary Sweeney's two second half points were sweet.

IFC Syls 4-11 O'Dwyers 0-06 After a bad week the Inters completed a good turnaround for our adult teams with a comprehensive win over old foes O'Dwyers at Swords. Seniors qualify for clash with Crokes on Saturday

SFC St Sylvesters 0-15 Fingallians 2-4 Just got a quick report from John. Didn't play too well in the first half, trailed by a point 0-5 to 1-3 at the break, got going much better in the second half, points from Darren and Aiden, Gary came off the bench and scored three, Eoin Bennis was John's tip as Man of the Match roving through the middle and making a lot of plays. Minor Bs clear their first hurdle

MFC St Sylvester's 4.15 Lucan Sarsfields 1.4 Our Minor B team got their championship off to a flying start with a comprehensive win over Lucan Sarsfields. The lads stuck to our game plan and hit Lucan early on with a couple of goals. From the first minute to the last minute all 20 players that played never let up and put in a huge effort. The score line would indicate an easy match but the real difference was our fitness, our defending and the speed the ball was moved into our forwards. This group of players had trained very hard for this game and they got their reward. Next game away to Cuala where we expect a much tougher test!

Inters lose by 2 in Championship

IFC St Sylvesters 1-5 Naomh Barrog 0-10 Two point loss in a game we certainly hoped to win. Played into a strong wind we were three plints behind after 10 minutes but then got ourselves into the game, point from Ciaran McArdle, missed a couple of frees and an inspirational point from Dave Keogh coming from full back. We seemed to be holding them well but let them off the hook in the last five minutes of the half and went in six to two at the break.

Tough loss in Senior Championship

SFC Rd2 St Sylvesters 3-5 St Oliver Plunkets Eoghan Ruadh 1-13 after extra time. An enthralling game from start to finish, Syls were caught at the post both in normal time and in extra time after leading from the start. No doubt the lads were a little shell shocked after the game but I think we will take a leaf from the Dubs book this year and use it to our advantage. A bit like the Dubs last Sunday, when we led going into the last five minutes we needed the extra point but didn't get it while Plunkets found the extra edge to steal it. As Brendan said afterwards, we had a good shout at the game, good Syls crowd, lots of he girls and juvenile players, as it should be. Well done to all and we're not dead yet - back door in two weeks, Inter Championship Saturday night, Ladies Final next Wednesday - LETS SHOW UP IN NUMBERS

Big win for Inters over St Margarets

AFL3 St Sylvesters 0-14 St Margarets 0-11 Tough tight game, six points apiece at the break, we played with the wind in our back in the second half and pulled away for a fine win. Ciaran McArdle kicked seven points and the defense, marshaled by Stephen Finnegan, stood up strong to some sustained attacking by Margarets who never broke us down.

Seniors win - stay top of Division 1

AFL1 St Sylvesters 1-10 Erins Isle 0-8 We led from start to finish, never really looked threatened but never really killed off the game until the last few minutes. Seven points to four at the break we opened up a good lead with a cleverly worked goal (no square ball - and Ciaran Goan stood his ground) by Aiden Relihan and a typical Jockser point to lead by seven.

Seniors back to work - lose at Mattock Rangers

Gabriel has the senior football back in training after a short break - was delighted with a high tempo game up in Louth on Wednesday where Aiden and Ross made good returns from injury. Next Monday the lads travel to Clontibret in Monaghan - Gabriel commented that this is one of the nicer venues in the country and worth the trip - 8.00pm kickoff I believe under lights and none other than Eamon McEneaney ref'ing.

"Pull Hard" takes on a new meaning for Syls

Syls Tug of War team did little to distinguish themselves in the competition held as part of the Malahide Has It Festival. The big crowd who gathered on the Green on Sunday expected an experienced 8 to overwhelm the opposition but despite drawing Gilbert & Wrights (whose team included a girl!!-ok she was a 9th person as against our 8) our team, which seemed to contain more brain than brawn, did not get past the first round. Some are blaming the defeat on the management skills or Cathal O’Donnell, others on the coaching of Brendan Carney but those in the know believe that the absence of proper footwear did the damage.

Paddy McCarthy Cup kicked off in style

I was too busy enjoying the beautiful evening to pay much attention to the details but Syls beat Plunkets by two points (Plunkets got a last minute goal) in a smashing game of open football - this really is a great grade and should be played more. The second game between Brigids and Ballymun was also well contested. Tuesday and Friday this week - good crowd, good games, no charge!

Seniors just keep rolling along

AFL1 St Sylvesters 2-10 Ballymun Kickams 1-9 Powerful display in a hard hitting game, probably our most impressive display this year as Kickams were in good form and well up for the game. We fell behind early and it took us a while to get into our stride but points from Jude, Micháel and McGurk kept us in touch and an opportunistic goal by the ever vigilant Eoin Bennis of a Ballymun mistake gave us the lead which we held to the end.

Inters lose tight game to Barróg

AFL3 St Sylvesters 0-5 Naomh Barróg 1-4 This was a very tight game in damp blustery conditions. Two points each at half time, the second half was as tight with Syls creaping into a 5 point to three lead with about four minutes remaing before Barróg made a break the length of the field for a goal. We had two more attacks into the wind but missed on both occasions, Barróg getting a late penalty and settled for a point.
