Seniors lose but stay top

AFL1 St Sylvesters 0-11 Ballymun 1-17 The score reflects the game pretty well, we never really threatened Mun as they continued to reverse last years results. Ballymun brought a greater intensity and it was great to see their Dubs stars starting a league game in August, Dean Rock was on fire early on with some excellent scores (sorry lads, I know I wasn't supposed to be admiring). Ross, Glen and Fionn stood out for us and Nigel hit most of the scores.

Inters win to go top of AFL3

AFL3 St Sylvesters 3-13 Clanna Gael Fontenoy 0-06 An early Aiden Relihan goal and a few quick points with the wind in our backs gave an early lead that Clan were never going to threaten. We played a very fluid brand of football moving the ball quickly and seldom giving it away. We are well poised to win promotion and looking as strong possibilities to go up as champions - big game away to Brigids on 31st and home against Barrog on 14th Sept.

AFL1 St Maurs 1-06 St Sylvesters 1-10 Good win over a determined Maurs out in Rush in a re-fix of the rained off game earlier in the summer. Took us a while to figure out their sweeper defence but Nigel, Eugene and Ken hit a few long range points and we lead 6 to 2 before a goal brought Maurs back.

Seniors win well at Na Fianna

AFL1 Na Fianna 1-06 St Sylvesters 3-15 The game was competitive for about 20 minutes before a couple of great saves by Robbie and goals at the other end from Ken Sweeney and Mark Brennan gave us daylight and we didn't look back. Someone said Na Fianna had a very young team out but, in fairness, we had plenty ourselves and were very happy with our win. I commented elsewhere that we had four Hazely brothers finish the game, a remarkable feat for any family following in the footsteps of the Barnes (Martin, Des, Brian and Dec) and more recently the Cleeres (Cian, Russy, Nicky and Airy).

Junior A's go top in Div6

The Junior A team went top of AFL6 on Tuesday night after a battling 5 pt victory over St Maurs. Despite playing with 14 men for almost three quarters of the game, the lads dug very deep and played some fine football against a very strong Maurs team. It was another great team performance.

Could have won . . . could have lost

AFL1 St Sylvesters 2-08 St Brigids 2-08 Another high tempo high quality game that really could have gone either way. Brigids were going better in the final quarter with four points on the trot to lead by two. Ken Sweeney won a penalty which Nigel converted but again Brigids got the touch on a high ball into our square and we were relieved to see it hit the top of the crossbar and go over to level the match.

Stacey Cup Winners

The pictures tell the story . . . the Junior A team took hom ethe Stacey Cup tonight winning against Templeogue Synge St out at Dolphin Park . . . A truly battling performance was the key to our victory over a very strong Templeogue Synge Street team. In a low scoring encounter, every score mattered and we came up trumps at the death to win by a single point.

Loving Cup Final not played

Unfortunately the referee didn't show (unusual these days but I didn't hear any more) so the Loving Cup Final between Syls and Vincents was postponed . . . big disappointment for the lads and supporters.

Inters up to 3rd in AFL3

AFL 3: Ballyboden St Enda's 1-07 St. Sylvester's 0-11 Our Intermediate footballers kept their recent good form in the league going with a hard earned 1pt win out in Ballyboden. Many of the lads playing on Saturday evening would have been involved with the minors a couple of years back when they were piped in the last minute of the MFL 1 final so Saturday's win will have had added significance for these players.

Seniors win away to Mary's

AFL1 St Marys 0-09 St Sylvesters 0-13 A star display by Nigel Dunne with 9 points gave us a welcome away win. Alan Foy hit two nice second half points and was denied a a great goal by a fabulous save by the Mary's keeper. Ken Sweeney and Gavin contributed the other points.

Seniors lose VdeP to Kickams

St Vincent de Paul Cup Final 2013 St Sy;lvesters 0-12 Ballymun Kickams 1-16 An early goal conceded and a few quick points was the difference in the usual competitive faire between these two teams.Ballymun led from start to finish and, except for the second quarter where we gained some control around the middle, we never really threatened their lead.

LOVING CUP SEMI-FINAL: St. Sylvester's 0-13 Naomh Olaf 1-06 Our Intermediate footballers qualified for the semi-final of the Loving Cup with a strong performance against Naomh Olaf on Wednesday evening. Inters win again over Vincents

AFL3 St Sylvesters 3-06 St Vincents 1-11 Another fine win keeping our promotion hopes alive. Thanks to Cathal for the reports. This was very much a game of two halves. With a strong wind blowing directly down the pitch from the school end towards the bull ring it was always going to be a case of building a lead and then defending it for the team that ended up playing with the with breeze in the first half.

Seniors lose in a cracker with Crokes

AFL1 St Sylvesters 1-10 Kilmacud Crokes 2-08 Tough one point loss after leading for most of a very high tempo game with a lot of what is good in Gaelic Football. Both sides were missing high profile players but that took nothing form the quality and effort. Syls dominated the first half with some quick open play and a great goal from Conor Daly but our old failing of slowing the delivery mid second half left Crokes into it and when they got all the frees in the second half (I think we got them in the first) they pipped us by a point. Have a look at the pictures.

Junior Bs go out of Championship

JFC D St Oliver Plunketts ER 1-08 St Sylvesters 0-07 A disappointing second half display with a good wind in our backs after staying in the game against a strongish wind in the first. Similar to the Junior A team earlier in the week, we took the wrong options up front and failed to capitalise on sufficient possession to convert on the scoreboard.

Tough loss in Junior Football Championship

JFC C St Sylvesters 0-07 St Brigids 3-07 Slipped away in the last few minutes after we had generally outplayed Brigids but could not translate to scores. We had a lot of possession in both halfs but, in truth, I felt the Brigids backline were very strong and continually closed us down and dispossessed our forwards.

Inters in Loving Cup semi's . .

Junior Bs look strong

Junior D Championship Rosmini Gaels 1-5 St Sylvester’s 2-12 The junior football team were also in good scoring form with a very good championship victory over Rosmini. Inters lose in a ding dong battle

AFL3 St Sylvesters 0-12 Castlenock 2-12 Cracking game in pitch 2 tonight saw the Inters lose to a strong Castlenock but definitely not without a fight. We hit the bar and drew a great save from the opposing keeper in the middle of the second half that thwarted our comeback. Cotsie will hopefully send a report.
