St Sylvester’s GAA club notes July 14th

Dublin became triple Leinster Champions with victories for the senior men and ladies football teams to add to the last week’s senior hurling win. Our own Sinead Aheane put the seal on the ladies win scoring a superb goal and a point at the start of the second half. Niamh McEvoy, back after serious injury, played her part coming on in the second half with her usual powerful runs at the opposing defence.

AFL1 St Sylvester’s 0-17 O’Tooles 1-5 A steady stream of good scores and a very mean defence gave us a comfortable lead going into the final quarter. Even manager, Gabriel Bannigan should have been pleased with this performance. Saturday’s game against St Maur’s was abandoned just after we scored to lead the game in the second half.

AHL3 St Sylvester’s 2-10 Parnells 2-19 A severely depleted intermediate hurling team could not provide the answers for a very sharp Parnells outfit. Barry Kiely scored a goal and a point early in the second half to provide some hope but Parnell’s kept the scoreboard ticking over more consistently.

John Ryan passed away this evening, May he Rest in Peace. John was Chairman in 1984 when the clubhouse was opened on Church Road, played on the junior football team that won our first ever Championship and was always a hardworking and well respected member of the club,

Quiz for Oxfam

I am involved in a 50k trek for Oxfam across the Mourne Mountains with four of my friends on June 15th-we hope to do this in 14-16 hours. To do this event, we must raise over €2k and we are doing a Table Quiz next Friday 24th in St Sylvesters Gaa Clubhouse to try raise a large portion of this money.

Tribute to John 'Skinner' Ryan

Very sad tonight to hear of the death of the Great Sylvester's Legend and proud to say a great friend John (Skinner) Ryan. Skinner captained Syls to Junior Championship Victory in Croke Park in 1963 the same year that the Dubs (Captained by Des Foley) won the All Ireland. The same Syls team went Intermediate & then Senior within a few years.

*MALAHIDE CLASSIC CAR SHOW TO BRING IRELAND'S VERY FIRST CAR HOME*

On Sunday 19th May the Grand Hotel Malahide will play host to the 2nd *Malahide Classic & Vintage Motor Show *a charity fundraiser by *Malahide Lions Club. The first petrol-driven car in Ireland, a Mercedes Benz Velo Comfortable, was imported in 1898 by Dr. John Colohan then owner of the Grand Hotel.
