Junior Hurlers up to second in AHL6

Junior Hurlers up to second in AHL6

AHL9: Syls 3-9 Round Towers (C) 2-12 Sun 11th Oct 2015 Broomfield Towers are unbeaten and top this league, Syls doing well also in 3rd position and well in contention for a playoff spot so both teams had all to for and they didn’t disappoint. We were treated to a very entertaining and sporting match. The lead changed hands several times with never more than a point in it so when Towers went 2 up with FT approaching things looked ominous.

Minor hurlers leave it behind in Ballyboden

MHC C Gr1 Ballyboden 1-09 St Sylvesters 0-10 We have already qualified for the semi-finals but it was still a pity to leave this one behind us at the wide open breezy Ballycullen. We trailed by 4 after playing into a strong wind in the first half and reeled in Boden in the first ten minutes of the second. Unfortunately we let Boden break away for a goal and a point and then we proceeded to make very hard work of pulling just two points back from plenty of possession and opportunities.

Junior B hurlers still flying high

AHL 9 Broomfield 27th September 2015 St Sylvester’s 4-14, St Joseph’s OCB 5-1 A well contested game of hurling saw 27 supporters come out in the bright autumn sunshine. Included were some parents of the younger players while the older players brought their children. A couple of 3-generation groups were also there. After a strange first half the score was Syls 2-6 to 4-0 for OCB due to individual excellence by the OCB midfielder, Mark Finlay. In the second half Syls tightened up their game with Daniel Colclough excellent in goals and Matthew Rosenell making good clearances.

MHC C St Sylvesters 3-15 Kilmacud Crokes B 2-10 Good win, lots of good hurling from both sides, Syls minor hurlers got their championship campaign off to a flying start at Broomfield on Sunday morning . The game started at a frenetic pace with the Syls boys coming under pressure from a physical Kilmacud forward line .Kilmacud went into a two points to no score lead very early in the game even though Syls were hurling reasonably well at the time .

Junior Hurlers make C'ship Semis

JHC C QF St Sylvesters 2-16 Liffey Gaels 3-04 A pretty comprehensive win in the championship quarter finals over Liffey Gaels, a good mix of experience and youth meant we had a lot more running in us and an almost flawless display of free taking by Colm Boran coupled with some excellent hurling from Sean Graham, Thomas Colclough and Johnney Conway kept the scores ticking over.

Hurlers lose to Wild Geese in extra time

4th August Malahide Castle Wild Geese 0-22, St Sylvesters 2-13. (After Extra Time) A very entertaining match was played in the Castle on Tuesday evening in windy conditions. A loss in concentration at the end of the fist half let the Geese in for three unanswered points to leave us just 2 points ahead at half time despite a good Fergus Rooney goal.

Hurlers run into strong Na Fianna

Hurlers run into strong Na Fianna

AHL2 St Sylvesters 1-15 Na Fianna 0-21 A late goal made the scoreline more respectable but Na Fianna had opened up a six point lead in the last quarter while playing some of the best hurling I have seen in Broomfield in a while. Up til then we had put up a very game display, recovering from a very slow start to trail by three points facing the wind in the first half, Na Fianna finishing the half with two sweet points.

AHL2 Naomh Marnóg 2-12 St Sylvesters 0-10 The goals were the difference but we were never dangerous up front, only once or twice threatening the gol ourselves. Minor hurlers win over Fingal Rovers

MHL3 St Sylvesters 3-16 Fingal Rovers 1-08 I didn't realise the score was so high, it seemed like a fairly even game in general play although Cooney and Graham were scoring freely in the first half. Fingal Rovers is an amalgamation of St Maurs and Oldcastle.

AHL9 lose at Raheny

AHL9 lose at Raheny

AHL9: Raheny 4-8 v Syls 0-4 (St Annes Park , 28th June 2015) Our unbeaten run ended abruptly in St Annes Park. Raheny had just shipped a heavy lose in the game before us and were determined from the start not to lose a second match. The 13-a-side didn’t suit us at all and Raheny exploited that to the full and did all the damage in the first half. Back to 15-a-side in 2nd half Syls managed to steady the ship but were unable to make inroads on the scoreboard. Our biggest concern was giving John Mangan (Teacher in Scoil Iosa and Raheny corner back) the bragging rights !

Junior hurlers lose late to Whitehall

Junior hurlers lose late to Whitehall

AHL6 : Syls 1-13 v Whitehall 3-8, (Broomfield, Sun 28th June 2015.) Syls were motoring nicely and hurling well but the concession of 2 soft goals was our undoing. We recovered with a well taken Gregg Hannon goal to go a point up but Whitehall hit back with a late goal to win it. Next Match: JHC-C: Syls v Ballyboden , Tues 7th July 19:30, Broomfield Team: Hiliary Murray-Hession, Paul Christie, Ciaran Murray, Des Lehane, Ronan Kennedy, Mikey Meaney, Jodi Hickey, Conor McMahon, Diarmuid McCarthy, Eoin Kennedy, Pat Hoyne, David Kennedy Ciaran Falvey, Eoin Cooney, Sean Graham. Minor Hurlers lose to Raheny

MHL3: Raheny 3-13 Syls 1-14 (St Annes Park, 21st June 2015) After a great fightback to get within a point of Raheny in the last quarter we were pegged back by a Raheny goal scored by their talented number 10. We tagged on 2 further points to get it back to 2 points in the closing minutes only to be rocked by another Raheny goal. Syls led by 2 points with the breeze at HT and up to that stage we had coped reasonably well with their influential numbers 10 & 11 but a slow start to the 2nd half gave Raheny the upper hand and they went into a 5 point lead.

Crumlin too strong for our hurlers

Crumlin too strong for our hurlers

AHL2: Syls 2-8 Crumlin 2-18 (Broomfield, 24st June 2015) The 10 point margin probably flattered Crumlin a little bit but there was no denying that they moved the ball just that bit smarter and quicker. Syls competed well in the first half to keep within a point of Crumlin but a rather soft goal followed by a soft point gave Crumlin a 1-9 to 0-7 lead and knocked us back a bit. Two goals in the second half from Mossy and Colly ( 20m free) kept our hopes alive, but we were finding it hard to cope with Crumlin’s pace and they picked off some fine scores.

Great win for hurlers over Boden

Great win for hurlers over Boden

SHC B Gr2 St Sylvesters 2-17 Ballyboden St Endas 2-11 Super win in Broomfield in a ding dong encounter against a Boden team we always struggle with. Not tonight, we strated in whirlwind fashion with early goals by Kev O'Flynn and a great team effort finished in style by Martin Ormonde and led by three at the break. Unlike recent games where we did not surface after the break, tonight Stephen Keogh won everything that came down the left and if he didn't score himself, and he did score at least four points, he won a free for Collie to score. Collie Byrne also nailed a few long range points from open play that helped keep Boden on the back foot.

SHC B Naomh Olaf 1-08 St Sylvesters 1-08 Great fighting second half display almost got us the win only for two late frees to pull us back. The first half was a repeat of the Vincents game. We gave up a softish goal, Olafs hit a few nice points and we responded with lots of good hurling but spoiled by poor shooting, finishing 1-05 to 0-03 at the break.

AHL9: Syls 0-16 Realt Dearg 1-4 (Broomfield 25th May 2015) Another entertaining game from the AHL9 juniors and another win. Hurlers go down to Vincents

SHC B St Vincents 1-16 St Sylvesters 1-13 Disappointing result as we often looked the better team but too many wides in the first half when we were well on top cost us dearly. We went out of the game for a long period of the second half when Vincents tacked on a lot of scores but we finished strongly, grazing the crossbar maybe three times in the last five minuites but not getting the goal we needed.
