Syls Ladies Section - Take a Bow!

The Jackies put in the performance of their lives and were extremely unlucky to lose by a point to a Cork team winning their fifth All Ireland title in a row. If only we could get this performance out of our footballers and hurlers, we would be top of the world in boith codes. Special congratulations to our own Sinead Aherne and her Naomh Marnóg colleagues Denise Masterson and Cliodhna O'Connor. You did us all proud girls. And at Broomfield on Saturday the Syls and Nmh Marnóg ladies again surpassed themselves with another excellent All Ireland 7's. Not to be forgotten are the Gaelic4Mothers from Syls who graced Croke Park and the legions of supporters who also did Dublin proud.

Junior hurlers reach semi final with another epic display

This performance surpassed all that went before as we were short and had to improvise -- to add to that Cillian O Riordan (22) went off injured and was replaced by Gavin Dolan (37) and there was 20 mins to go --- the older players dug deep and must have been weary on Wednesday. It’s St Judes in the semi-final at 3.30 in St Brigids next Sunday.

Nearly a great All Ireland . . .nearly!!

The first half was cracking . . .one of the best halfs ever . . . the Ref hardly blew in the first twenty minutes and it looked like Gaelic football should do. Unfortunately Mr Duffy found his whistle, giving the Kerry defenders a lot more leeway than the Cork lads. The second half was more like the Cork/Tyrone second half, Kerry containing and Cork running out of ideas - I don't understand why they don't use Cousins more. And Kennelly, lucky, lucky!! Tom Sullivan my Man of the Match - Tommy Walsh was magnificent.

U15s win two championship quarter finals

The U15As beat Thomas Davis by a point after extra time in as good a game of football as has been seen in Bridgefield. At the back of the Castle Pat Brennan's U15B team had a more comfortable win over St Annes in the C championship. Ciaran and Padraig's U13B team continued their renaissance on Saturday with a big win over at Drimnagh Castle while the U13As had a narrow loss to Crokes in Bridgefield. U16B had a great win away to a strong St Pereguines team. 1.12 to 2.4. Mark Finnerty scored 1.8. We have 22 players on our 16b Panel. Looking good for Minor next year.

Seniors leave it late at Vincents

It's always a good day when you beat Vincents and today was no exception. We left it late, John Coughlan grabbing a goal with almost the last kick for a 2-13 to 2-12 win. It was a funny old game, Big Niall called it a good open game at half time but with Vinnies leading 2-6 to 1-5 and we had missed a bagful he was being a little facitious.

Two significant developments recently on the facilities front - we now have a gaelic pitch where Malahide United used to play in Broomfield beside the hockey pitch. We also have access to the new all weather hockey pitch for winter training. There are other develoipments but I will ask Brendan to send details of what he shared at the recent club meetings. Hurling Final . . .a real pity!

Pity, a moment of madness by the referee robbed us of one of the most spectacular hurling finals probably ever played. Totally absorbing, titanic effort by Tipperary to overcome the mighty Cats . . . working harder, winning more ball, just short a forward to make the difference . . then a really crap penalty decision just blew it . . . and we missed the finale the game deserved.

Tony Forrestal Cup fro U14 Hurling - In the Div2 match vs Tipp , Paul McBride started at full forward but was moved out as very little ball getting through, Dublin were outplayed in the first half, 2-5 to 0-1. Big turnaround after the break, lads seems to find their feet, Paul was super around the middle and half forward line, 2 great points from play and a couple from frees. Conor Dwyer came on, played in the forward line and although didn't score , he made a hugh difference, any ball that came in, stayed in, kept Tipp under constant pressure, Tipp didn't score in 2nd half, final score 2-5 to 1-6. Suas leis na Dubs - Eddie's memories

Having grown up behind Parnell Park (I could see Dubs training from my bedroom window) and attending Scoil Mhuire Marino my first big obsession was the Dublin football team and I have never grown out of it. I was born a few weeks after the 1955 Dubs V Kerry final and knew and still know a number of the players on that team. The real tradition of Dubs V Kerry is said to have come to life in 1955 but they did have a history dating back to their first All Ireland Final meeting in 1892. The Clubs represented the County at that time and as far as I know this continued until 1923. For the purpose of this we will just refer to the early meetings as Dublin V Kerry.
