U21B footballers lose in the Championship
U21FC D St Sylvesters 1-06 Na Fianna 1-09 Playing with a cold December wind in the first half we trailed by 5 at half time to a more cohesive Fianna outfit. Conor McMahon was excellent at centre back and had good support from David Wall, Conot Fitzpatrick and Kevin Casey.

The Adult Games Committee are now seeking expressions of interest in the following positions for the 2012 season. Minor A Football Minor B Football Minor Hurling The closing date for expressions of interest for all positions is 27/12/11. Please use the following contact details. Contact: Cathal O'Donnell
MANAGER FOR AFL 9 TEAM
Presently this clubs fields 4 football teams in adult competitions with a goal to have them competing in divisions 1, 3, 5 and 7. Presently while we have teams in AFL 1 and AFL 3, our 3rd team are in AFL 7 and our 4th team are in AFL 9. Unfortunately we are in grave danger of having to withdraw the team in AFL 9, not because we can't get the players but we can't get mentors to take this team. It will be extremely disappointing and a real indictment of our club if this is allowed to happen.
Pat Kennedy honoured at Hurling Event

Comhairle na nÓg annual meeting
Wrap up of the Dublin juvenile football and hurling year, CCC1 and 2 combined. All competitions completed to schedule, almost 10,000 games, 5,500 players on CCC1 football (increased a little from 2010) and over 4,000 CCC1 hurling (10% increase), not a single major issue with dual status, reduction in disciplinary issues. Pride of place for Syls was our u12 div1 champions and good representation in most competitions. Very impressive organisation by the volunteer committee members and we all owe a big thanks to the Ciaran Hoban (retiring chairman), Alan O'Connor CCC2, Niall Connaughton CCC1, Damian, Kathleen and many many more . . . go raibh míle maith agaibh.
St Sylvester’s GAA club notes 5th Dec
Twenty five years of hurling was celebrated in the club on Friday with Pat Kennedy honoured for his great contribution over that time. Danny O’Connor did the organising and spoke with great passion and authority. It was great to see some of the “immortals” present for what was a wonderful evening.
A lot of reminiscing at Adult Hurling 25 year celebration
Danny O'Connor assembled a great collection of hurling folk at the club last night to celebtrate 25 years of hurling at Syls. The guy I remembered from the 80's was John Leonard, long time secretary of the Junior Hurling Board and a busman with CIE who is reputed to have never collected a fare from any lad with a hurley. John was always a great help to Danny and Jim and many other fledgling hurling teams. Danny will send a few comments and Killian promised pictures including Danny's great collection from over the years.
Football . . .I feel a little cheated
I enjoy a good game of football and was really looking forward to the season finale with our Senior and Minor footballers on top of their leagues and looking competitive. I've already whinged about what I felt were very unsatisfactory exits from the championships but, whatever, sure we've a couple of League Finals to shout about. What happened, how come we haven't been shouting then.
Minor 4B league slips away in cold wind
MFL 4B Final St Sylvesters 2-7 Craobh Ciaran 2-12 Great season for our Minor B team, going through the league with 100% record but unfortunately just running out of steam late in the second half of this final at Broomfield. We led at half time by a few points but facing a cold wind and a very classy Ciaran's centre forward we failed to take our few chances and Ciarans finished strongly. Maybe Ger or Pat will send some details . . .think I saw John with the camera as well.
St Sylvesters U11's begin challenge matches in preparation for next Season
St Sylvesters U11's had a marvellous turnout last Saturday when 36 players togged out for two matches vs Raheny U11's at Bridgefield. After discussions amongst mentors in both camps we decided to expand the pitches and host two 15- a-side matches as all these lads move to 13-a-side next season and to give as many players an opportunity to get as much game time as possible.
Scoil Iosa take 2nd hurling title
U16 B Colleges Final Scoil Iosa 3-08 Old Bawn Tallaght 1-13 Another great win for Scoil Iosa with the U16s winning a very exciting final at Ballymun. This is the 3rd medal in a week for a few of our lads - Karl Stacey, Colm Byrne, Alan Kavanagh, Conor Dwyer, Jack Hazely and 2nd for Paul Ryan, Thomas Colclough, Dylan Doyle and Joe Bannigan. Bernard and Ronan sent a few pictures. Thanks and comhghairdeachas to Panner, Shane Cusack, Paul Byrne and the Chaplain
Minor Hurlers win C Championship in style
MHC C St Sylvesters 3-11 Raheny 1-13 Although 3-11 sounds like a good score the reality was that this win was built on a couple of early goals and some superb defending in the second half into the wind. See Eddie's report and thanks to Eddie, Colm, Martin, Declan and Declan and all the players for a few very enjoyable games, it was great stuff lads, well done. Great support on the line surely helped the lads along as well.
Sinead Aherne 3rd All Star
Congratulations to Sinead on being awarded her third All Star, an outstanding achievement. Thanks to Peter Hickey for the pictures
Sam came to Syls on Sunday
Thanks to Micháel McCarthy for giving up his time yet again - thanks to Brian and Panner for the pictures - PLEASE SEND MORE TO INFO@STSYLVESTERS.IE
St Sylvester’s GAA club notes
Minor Hurling C Championship Final Raheny 1-11 St Sylvester’s 3-9 This is our first ever minor hurling championship victory and it was all the sweeter with another trademark performance by this fantastic team. Coaches past and present Martín Meaney, Eddie McLoughney, Colm O’Connor and Declan McGrath laid solid foundations and instilled their character into this team which is awesome to behold. This was a great day for all.
U21 hurlers win at St Marks
A one point win out in Springfield in Tallaght was a welcome surprise in the U21 Hurling C Championship as we were fielding without (almost) any of our Minors due to their Championship Final on Sunday. The lads did a great job assembling a team from players who are not doing much hurling these days. Gary Sweeney still looks the part and scored the winning point while I heard good reports about Andrew Richardson, Killian O'Flynn, Dylan Redmond who traveled from Galway, Fionn, Eamon Sullivan and more.
Syls Ladies Celebrate

Scoil Iosa win Dublin Colleges Senior Hurling B Title
Scoil Iosa 3-12 Confey 2-02 Fine colleges win for Scoil Iosa fielding mostly Syls Minor and U16 teams from last Sunday, Mark Hazely and Paul McBride two additions (and a lad from Vincents). Sean Kane laid down the gauntlet early with another of his trademark bustling runs yielding a great goal and Kevin O'Flynn catching all round him and deadly from frees. Confey had a few excellent hurlers but we had much greater strength in depth, and, while never totally dominant, always looking the likely winners.
St Sylvester’s GAA club notes 20th November
Next Sunday the minor hurlers take on Raheny in the championship final in St Anne’s at 11.00 am. They had a magnificent semi final extra time win and they won the Colleges Senior hurling B final last Friday with another trademark performance. Come along and support them. They never disappoint.
Thanks for supporting our Feile Fundraiser
The brains of Malahide turned up in numbers on Friday night for a fundraising Quiz for next years Feile Teams - two football, girls and hurling. We have offered to be a host town for the National Feile na nGael hurling, returning to Dublin for the first time since 1982 so hopefully we will have a great hurling festival here next year. The organisers were delighted with the turnout and Morgan Redmond and Peter Eades provided a great misic set. . . .Oh, yeah, who is Rob Carney's girlfriend anyway?? . . . I should known that one!!
U21s lose late at Vincents
U21FC A S Vincents 2-10 St Sylvesters 0-11 We fell away playing into the wind in the second half after a very encouraging first half when we lead 0-9 to 0-4 at the break.
Brendan Dunne RIP
Very sad to report the passing of Brendan Dunne Snr, another great Syls supporter over the years. I took this picture of him at the recent Inter Championship game in the Naul with his son Brendan and James Carty, his travelling companion who joined Brendan at many games, he'll be missed, he was a lovely man.
Syls Celebrating 25 years of Adult Hurling

U10 footballers hosted Mungret St Pauls
Sylvester's U10's footballers finished off the season last weekend by hosting a travelling party from Mungret St Paul's club in Limerick who stopped off for a couple of challenge matches in Malahide before heading on to do the Croke Park stadium tour. The sight of the 30 kids in Limerick jerseys invading Broomfield didn't faze our lads who went on to give a great display of freescoring football.
Brave girls just miss out in U14 Championship Final
U14 Div 2 girls C'ship Final Temlpleogue SS 4-10 St Sylvesters 3-7 Evidence of the great strides we are making was on show with our under 14 girls just failing to take the division 2 championship title. This is a young team many of whom will play at this age again next year. Pat Brennan and Shane Cowley deserve great credit for the progress this team has made.
BSNSS launch a great success
Another milestone for Syls last night with the successful launch of our Business and Services Network. We had about 120 in attendance representing a very broad spectrum of business, Bobby Kerr gave an insightful and amusing keynote, Ernie, John, Alex and Kevin laid out the possibilities and aspirations for the network, Eddie provided the leadership, as usual, and the members present set the expectation that we can and will help each other and our members in business related matters just as we do in sporting matters. Syls Abú, well done to all for the foresight and great event organisation. I'm sure one of the lads will provide more details. Next event is in January when we hope to see an even bigger attendance.
Syls players in Dublin U13 win over Waterford
Dublin under 13 hurlers who travelled to Waterford on Saturday last. The Dubs won by two points after a terrific match.. Representing St Sylvesters were Daniel Murphy , Eamonn McLoughney ,Mikey Meaney and Eoin Cooney.
Minor hurlers win in a thriller
MHC C St Sylvesters 2-19 Kilmacud Crokes 3-11 AET When Colm Byrne picked out Sean Kane who goaled for Syls to lead for the first time with minutes remaining it looked good for our lads. We repelled Crokes attack twice but then they goaled off a broken ball in our square and, well, it didn't look quite so good. We didn't despair, Brendán put the ball in deep, Byrne won a 21 yard free and Flynn equalised to take us to extra time. Great stuff.
St Sylvester’s GAA club notes 13th November
Sinead Aherne received her third All Star Award to add to the Golden Boot Award in what has been another magnificent year for our magical Malahide maestro, who has been an inspiration to us, especially the thriving girls section of the club.
Girls journey ends in Tipperary
The girls lost by a few points in their All Ireland Junior Semi Final against Aherlow in Tipperary today. See the report from Leinster GAA News. Congratulations to Brian, Dave and all the girls on a great achievement. Be sure to read Brian's comment at the end.
U12 Footballers win Div1 North
U12 Div1 St. Sylvesters 4-8 Na Fianna 2-6 Syls U12As were confirmed as North Dublin champions on Saturday last with a comprehensive win over closest rivals Na Fianna. Both teams entered the last game of the season with identical records having lost only one match each throughout the campaign.
Name That Team 1997
Joe Burke has a case of Dom (or was that a pint and a glass of rasberry) for the first person to name this U9 team from 1997 - taken before the u9 final which they won beating Trinity Gaels. Six of this team are currently playing adult football .... Can you pick them out? Two are playing hurling.

Report on Girls U14Championship Semi Final Syls V O’Dwyers & Sat Nav Probs in Tipp. ?
Sunday 6th November 2011 was a very long day for the Ladies’ Football in St Sylvester’s. The plan was to start the day in St Brigids Club in Blanchardstown for the replayed U14 Championship Semi Final V O’Dwyers 10.00am and then to travel to Tipperarey town to see the All Ireland Junior Semi Final between Aherlow Tipperarey v St Sylvester’s Dublin 2pm.
St Sylvester’s GAA club notes 6th November
The magnificent ladies of Malahide put in a heroic performance, coming back from seven points down to lead the game in the second half. In the end one kick of a ball separated them from a deserved victory and devastation. The abiding memory is a proud and passionate team who left it all on the playing field and we are proud of their great achievement in becoming Leinster Champions. Well done everyone.
U15As lose Shield Final at Castlenock
I haven't seen a report yet but I hear we lost the A Shield Final by a few points. Well done to Peter and Archie and the lads who finished the season well and will come out strong at U16
U15 B team win the Shield
U15C Shield St Sylvesters 4-09 Castlenock 2-05 Congratulations to Paudraic and Shay's team after a very good run in the league and now taking athe Shield to finish a good U15 season.
Minor As win well over Raheny
MFL1 Syls 2-6 Raheny 1-04 - Super 5 point win over a very strong Raheny which puts us top of MFL1 and may be enough to win us the league or at least a playoff with Boden. It was a very impressive, if sometimes frustrating, display by our lads, dominating the play for most of the game but slow to make it show on the scoreboard. Both teams played extra men in the backline so it was difficult enough to see what was really happening.
Minor Bs lose narrowly in C'ship semi
MFC E St Sylvesters lost to Ballyboden St Endas in an exciting championship semi final that went right down to the wire. Some confusion at the end when we had a close in free but seemingly believed we were two points down and went for a goal which was defended by the Boden lads. Turned out we were only a point down. Bad luck that.
U8s meet the Dubs
Barry Cahill (he has been great to visit Syls over the years, many thanks Barry) and Micháel McCarthy met the U8 team for some photos . . . well done to all.
Senior League win over Vincents
AFL1 St Sylvesters 2-13 St Vincentsa 1-15 Both sides started with a bit of a hangover from Championship defeats and the first half was a tame enough affair, notwithstanding Syls leading by 5 at the break. The second half livened up and there were some excellent points from both sides, Darren, David and Michael contributing for Syls, Gary, Gavin and Ross making the plays, Fionn and Cian doing well at the back. Thanks to Grainne McKinney from Vincents for the pictures.
St Sylvester’s GAA club notes
The ladies football team travel to Tipperary Town next weekend to play Aherlow in the All Ireland Junior Semi Final. The day and time have still to be confirmed so please check with the website www.systlvesters.ie for details and come down to support.
Cracking win for Minor Hurlers
MHC C St Sylvesters 0-13 St Oliver Plunkets ER 0-7 Great win for the lads against a strong OPER outfit. We led from start to finish but the Navan Road lads never gave us an inch and we had to battle to the end. This should see us into the semi final and, on this form, we are surely planning to give it a good go. Thanks to John Keogh and Bernard for the pictures
U13 hurlers finish strong
U13H Div2 St Sylvesters 7-10 St Judes 2-06 Third in Div2 is a good showing for our u13s after a very strong second ha;f against Judes. It didn't look so good at half time with Judes gaining some dominence in the second quarter but we came out very strong in the second half.
Coaching Workshops & Courses in Oct & Nov
Please pass out among mentors in your clubs I have a list of upcoming workshop next week and early November – Also worth noticing is the workshop on the FETAC Course in Strength & conditioning for Gaelic Games. We are running a workshop just to give interested mentors & coaches a taste of what will be involved and what the course will entail. It is a great way of seeing if the course will be for them and how it can benefit your team /club. It’s not up for online bookings so please email if you have anyone who may be interested in going along. – aileen@dublingaa.ie
15Bs win late in the rain
U15F Div5 Syls beat Lucan in a smashing game in Bridgefield by the last point of the game. We led for a long time but Lucan pegged us back to lead as we went into injury time but two great points won in at the death in torrential rain. Conor Matthews did well in goal,
U15A strong finish to the year
U15F Div2 Good win over Whithall sees these lads finishing the year in much better form than displayed earlier. Next Sunday we play Castlenock in the U15A Shield Final at Castlenock and it would be great to end the season on a high note. (Thanks Karl)
Syls Ladies Leinster Junior Champions
Congratulations to the girls on winning the Leinster Junior Football Title at a wet windy Newbride yesterday, St Sylvesters 4-10 St Lawrence’s 0-18. By far our toughest game to date, the Kildare team had some very classy forwards and most of their scores came from open play. The girls were delighted with the traveling support from Malahide and look froward to an even bigger following to Aherlow (or thereabouts) in Tipperary for the All Ireland Semi Final in two weeks time.
Inters and ladies lift St Sylvester's
Victories in championship and a Leinster final raise spirits at club after senior footballers bow out of Dublin SFC.
Minors go out by one point on score difference
Despite winning by a whopping 22 points over St Judes the Minor A team bowed out of the Championship, finishing one point behind Ballyboden on score difference (and even that seemed uncertain). This was a terrible shame as we looked like we could seriously challenge for honours playing a very open skillful game. I understand we protested the championship format without success earlier in the year but the idea of only one team qualifying from a group on score difference or on highest score goes completely against our ethos and makes a mockery of the efforts of players and management.
Minor hurlers win in Championship
MHC C Excellent win over St Finbarrs at Broomfield for Eddie's team, lead 1-12 to 1-0 at the break against the wind and pushed on from there. Win and a draw, need to win again to qualify

St Sylvester's GAA club notes
St Sylvester’s ladies were crowned Leinster Junior football champions in Newbridge following a six point victory over St Lawrence’s and they now progress to the All Ireland semi final against Aherlow, the Munster champions, in two weeks time. Sinead Aherne was awarded player of the match.
Inters didn't bring their A game
IFC QF St Sylvesters 1-04 St Judes 2-08 A pretty solid first half up the hill seemed to set us up for a chance to take this quarter final but it didn't turn out that way as Judes used the space to far better effect in the second half a ran out easy winners in the end.
Minor Bs qualify for C'ship semi final
Congratulations to the Minor B team who qualified for thr semi finals of the E Championship with a comprehensive win over St Margarets ay Broomfield.
Super win for Scoil Iosa Hurlers

Feile 2008 Under 14s engineer super sponsorsorship deal.
ST. SYLVESTER'S GAA club in Malahide has engineered a superb sponsorship for this year's Under 14 Feile Peil na nOg team thanks to the generosity of Harold Engineering. Included in the deal is a set of jerseys, rain jacket, club fleece and a tee-shirt for each member of the squad.
U15s and U16s take on Nemo rangers in Cork.
In a gesture to show support and solidarity with our beleaguered Southern Brotherhood, Ciaran Roche, Declan Ryan and Ger O'Flynn brought Syls Finest to Cork. I am glad to report that our U15 and U16 football teams returned safe and well from last weekend’s trip to Nemo Rangers in Cork. The quality displayed in both matches was of a high standard and resulted in a victory for both Sylvester’s teams. (24/January/2008)
U15 hurlers lose to stronger Crumlin
U15HC C St Sylvesters 0-8 Crumlin 1-15 The scoreline just about tells the story of our first ever final where a more free scoring Crumlin had more hurling in them and ran out deserving winners. What it doesn't say is how well we fought back from seven point deficit in the middle of the first half to trail by two at 1-06 to 0-07 at half time, Thomas, Hugh, Adam and Shane the main architects of our comeback and it was unfortunate for us that the break came when it did.
Juvenile results, 17th October
Juvenile results for last weekend attached. Our results were as follows:
St Sylvester’s GAA club notes
Senior football championship St Sylvester’s 2-9 -- 1-18 Parnell’s (after extra time) We had a nice three point lead in the second half and we should have won it in normal time. Parnell’s got a goal and two points at the start of extra time and held on for the win. It was a great performance that deserved a win and the players and management will be very disappointed not to progress.
Seniors lose to Parnells after extra time
SFC Syls 2-09 Parnells 1-18 AET (1-08 : 0-11 FT) You'll have to check Hill16 for a report, I'm just very disappointed for the lads and the management who worked so hard this year to put a strong challenge in this competition.
Inters great win in gloomy Naul
IFC St Sylvesters 2-07 Ballymun Kickams 1-06 It seemed very ambitious to be starting an Inter Championship game at 5.00pm in the Naul on Saturday, it was almost dark, exagarated by the car lights down the far sideline. The first half was a reflection of the mood, both sides slow to find their rythm, nice points from Keith and Darren coming from the back were the highlights and we managed to lead 0-4 to 0-3 at the break.
St Sylvesters GAA club notes
Despite a brilliant comeback in the second half the Junior hurlers lost the Championship final in Parnell Park. Well done to Plunketts on their win. The adult ladies team had a great win in their semi final to qualify for Leinster Junior Final. The senior football team play Parnells in Lawless Park Swords (not Parnell Park) on Sunday next the 16th at 15.45 in the championship. The intermediates play Ballymun Kickhams in the championship at 17.00 next Saturday 15th in the Naul. The minor hurlers play Finbarrs in the championsip next Sunday 16th at 11.00 in Broomfield. The under 15 hurlers play Crumlin in the championship final next Sunday at 11.00 in Blakestown. There are a lot of big games so please come out and support and enjoy . There was no winner of the Lotto jackpot. The numbers drawn were 19, 23, 25, and 14. Next weeks jackpot is €3,750.

Ladies Qualify for Leinster Final
Final Score - Clara 0-1, St Sylvester's 4-10 Congratulations to our Ladies Team who defeated Clara from Offaly on Saturday last, to reach the Leinster Final. The girls departed Malahide at midday on Saturday and travelled by coach to Clara in the midlands for this semi-final encounter. Playing out of Dublin against country opposition is always going into the unknown . . .
Eoin Boyne and Conor Meaney play for Dublin Minors
Two Syls players line out in the first round of the Leinster Minor football Championship: Dublin v Westmeath, Parnell Park, Saturday 3pm - worth a visit.

Hurlers win the League - and it didn't come from nowhere
We brought a double decker from Malahide to support the Dublin Hurlers yesterday and we had a great day, finally climbing one of the three big hills that have bested us for 50 years. You might think that this is the pinnacle of an era but somehow I think we'll see many more and bigger days from these lads. The game itself was a bit of a disappointment, we simply hurled the Cats off the field but never felt safe. How could you when the ref blew half time as we were scoring a goal (I've never seen that before) and then walked off leaving the goal scorer in a heap on the ground and not even wondering how that could happen. Bizarre!
Tough loss for U21s and Minor Bs
U21C A Kilmacud Crokes 2-7 St Sylvesters 1-9 Minor F Div5 James Gaels 1-8 St Sylvesters 1-7 Pipped at the post in another absorbing U21 championship game at Balgriffen on Tuesday evening. a high ball into our square allowed to bounce and Crokes got a goal on full time to lead by two, we got one back but too little too late. Tough loss after we had fought our way into a two point lead and looked the better team only to have our pockets picked. I haven't seen a report from the Minor game in the Iveagh Grounds but a one point loss looks tough for this young team
Sweeney & McArdle in Leinster U21 duel with Royals

U10s support The Dubs
Wednesday night is usually training night but when the newly crowned Champions are playing their first match as possessors of the Sam Maguire just down the road something has to give. But if its good enough for the All Ireland Champions its good enough for Syls U10s and we took our training drills to the Dubs home pitch of Parnell Park so we could train and shout on the Heros in Blue.
U11 hurlers unbeaten in 2011
