AFL4 Promotion SF St Sylvesters 1-5 Lucan Sarsfields 1-0 Sorry I wasn't there, got the result from Declan - sounds like a war of attrition, must have been some fierce defending.

Seniors lose to Plunkets in league semifinal

AFL1 SF Oliver Plunkets ER 3-11 St Sylvesters 1-8. A very disappointing night at the office for our premier team, not showing any of our recent good form while 14 man Plunkets ran out easy winners in the end.

Junior Footballers make the breakthrough - AFL6 next year

After four years of trying St. Sylvester's Juniors finally won promotion to AFL 6 on Tuesday night in Garristown. Playing against a strong wind in the first half Syls got off to the worst possible start when Na Fianna grabbed a goal within the first 30 seconds. Indeed the story of the first half seemed to be the ability of Na Fianna pick up goals at opportune moments to keep themselves in the game as our lads were playing the better football.

Seniors qualify for Div1 semifinals with fine win and a bit of luck

AFL1 ST SYLVESTERS 1-9 BALLYBODEN ST ENDAS 0-8. Seriously good display in Broomfield this afternoon to complete our regular league games. Boden are worthy county champions, haven't lost since early Spring, were only missing their three dual stars and were determined to secure their own league semifinal spot. We've been playing well the last few months, however, and were well up for them. RESULTS AT BALLYMUN AND JUDES ENSURE WE QUALIFY FOR THE SEMI-FINALS OF THE LEAGUE - HERE'S HOPING!!

From Rag Ball Rovers to Junior D Champions

In accepting the Junior D Championship trophy Syls captain Darren Burke gave great credit to Padjo, Declan Barnes and Aido Mahon for starting the team a couple of years ago and taking them from RBR to winning an adult trophy. There was a great crowd at Balgriffen to cheer on the Shay Keogh inspired outfit. Great credit to our football teams who have all had a good year and maybe this is the first of a few trophies.

Comfortable win in Senior League

AFL1 Fingallians 1-9 St Sylvesters 4-14. I don't know yet whether we can still qualify for the play-offs - will update. This was a pretty comfortable after the first 20 minutes when we were 1-5 to 0-5. A super goal setup by a driving run by David Galvin and finished by the a very sharp Aiden Relihan after about 10 minutes set the tone of the game.

Adult Fixtures for Week Ending 18/10/09 - MH changed

This coming weekend is extremely important for all our adult teams as they all reach the critical stages of their respective league campaigns. The seniors get things started on Thursday evening when they play Fingallians under lights in Lawless Park. Gabriels charges need to win this game to keep their hopes of a play-off spot alive. Saturday sees the second team take on Round Towers Clondalkin in Broomfield.

Highs and Lows in football and hurling

Highs for the Intermediate Hurlers and Minor B Footballers who both qualified for their championship semi finals - lows for the Minor A Footbalers who missed out on qualification even though they recorded a superb win away to Kilmacud Crokes.

Juniors disappointed with final showing

An early sending off left us to battle most of the game with 14 men and, while we started brightly and led 5 points to no score, Parnels goal and point before the break were like the turning of the tide and we never got back into the game.

Junior Football Final - big day for Syls

JUNIOR B CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL ST. SYLVESTER'S v PARNELL'S This Sunday is a special day for St. Sylvester's GAA club as it sees an adult football team from the club comepte in Parnell Park on championship finals day for the first time since 1997. (We have played in finals since then but not in Parnell Park). We would ask that all club members come out in force to support our first Junior team as the continue their quest to win the Junior B championship for the first time in since 1999.

Junior Footballers reach D Championship Final in style

The fourth team had a great victory under lights in their JFC D semi final last night. Syls got off to a flying start with the likes of Manus Hanratty, Eoin O'Keefe and Mark Ryan impressing in the forward line. An early goal by Gavin Dolan settled the lads and Syls went into half time 2-7 to 1-1 in front. The lads fought well into the strong breeze in the second half with the six defenders all contributing to keeping the Finnians forwards to a minimum.

Seniors leave it late at Vincents

It's always a good day when you beat Vincents and today was no exception. We left it late, John Coughlan grabbing a goal with almost the last kick for a 2-13 to 2-12 win. It was a funny old game, Big Niall called it a good open game at half time but with Vinnies leading 2-6 to 1-5 and we had missed a bagful he was being a little facitious.

Junior footballers reach B C'ship Final and D C'ship Semifinal

Better results in the two Junior Championship games on Sunday. The AFL7 team had a comfortable win over Balinteer while the AFL10 team had a much tighter run over in Palmerstown. This is the first time since 1999 that a St. Sylvester’s has qualified for the final of the Junior B Championship.

Brave effort not enough in Senior Championship

Everyone was very disappointed but also very proud of our senior team when we lost by 1-14 to 1-11 in the championship in bad conditions at Parnell Park this evening - it was a great game of football in the conditions . . . . good support from Malahide and plenty came back for a beer afterwards ....Pictures from Garret White of the Herald, many thanks

Inters and Juniors leave it late - but not too late

Following the Senior footballers win on Saturday evening it needed late goals in Broomfield on Sunday to help keep two of our teams in the hunt for promotion at the end of the season. The Intermediates, helped by 3 pts from centre-back Derek Roche, were 7 pts to 2 up at half-time in their game against St Patricks Donabate when shortly afterwards Syls were reduced to 14 men

Seniors win in the league against Ballymun

AFL1 St Sylvesters 0-13 Ballymun Kickams 0-11 A good win in a good game where both sides at full strength are obviously sharpening up for the business end of the championship. This was a more thorough test than the game earlier in the week and, while we never looked very comfortable we were only behind once late in the first half and finished the half up 7 to 6.

Great week for Syls Football

Four championship games, four wins, all by good margins - can't ask for more. The senior game was reported in the Independent and the Herald - The Inters had a really impressive 3-12 to 0-7 win over Clanna Gael Fontenoys at Parnell Park (man of the match award to Neil Duignam for a super mid field display, closely followed by another super corner forward effort from Micháel McCarthy and Stephen Finnegan's clean sheet in the goal), the Juniors beat Judes well at Broomfield to progress to the Junior B semi final, and, not to be outdone, Junior B team traveled to Annes in Bohernabreena for a Junior D Championship win with an interesting mix of young and older players (Shay Keogh, Niall Guiden)

Seniors progress to last 16 in Championship

We made it through our second round of the 'backdoor' series at O'Toole Park on Wednesday. St Sylvesters 4-12 Ballinteer St Johns 0-5. We were pretty much at full strength (Ross Hazely looked like the only regular not available through injury) and our superior strength and fitness had us looking pretty comfortable throughout, leading about 2-9 to 0-3 at the break.

Suas leis na Dubs - Eddie's memories

Having grown up behind Parnell Park (I could see Dubs training from my bedroom window) and attending Scoil Mhuire Marino my first big obsession was the Dublin football team and I have never grown out of it. I was born a few weeks after the 1955 Dubs V Kerry final and knew and still know a number of the players on that team. The real tradition of Dubs V Kerry is said to have come to life in 1955 but they did have a history dating back to their first All Ireland Final meeting in 1892. The Clubs represented the County at that time and as far as I know this continued until 1923. For the purpose of this we will just refer to the early meetings as Dublin V Kerry.

Syls lads do well in Dublin win

It's a big honour for the club and for all their team mates when our lads are involved on the national stage with a winning Dublin team. Today belongs to Fionn Carney at full back playing a stormer and Gary Sweeney who scored 5 points from play and was named 'Man of the Match'. Congratulations also to Mark Maher and Greg McInerney and all the young Dubs. They do leave us on the edge of our seats, however . . .

3rd Team Stretch Unbeaten Run to 13 Games.

The third team defeated Thomas Davis in AFL 7 on Friday evening in Broomfield to extend their unbeaten run to 13 games in all competitions with their last defeat coming way back on 29/03. For the first twenty minutes of Friday’s game however it look liked the number 13 was going to be an unlucky one as Thomas Davis raced into a 4 point lead and were looking like they were going to establish a very healthy half time lead. With 10 minutes to go in the first half we got our first score of the half and this seemed to settle the team down.
