Minor girls win at Clontarf to go top in Div1
Sorry to see the lads lost to Clontarf in the Minor game at the weekend. The Minor Girls were also due to play Clontarf at home this weekend but conceded home advantage because of the state of the pitches in Broomfield and played away on Monday night in Clontarf instead. The girls had a great win Syls 4-6 Clontarf 2-5 in what was a very close game in Division 1. Conor Barry Manager of the Dublin Minor Team was an interested spectator.

Minor Girls Div 1 & Scoil Iosa Leinster Qtr. Final
After Syls. Minor Girls won the Div 3 Championship in October 2012, we were put into Division 1 for the 2013 Minor League. We felt that we should have been put up into Division 2 again this year for the League, but accepted the County Board’s decision at the end of the day.
U15 footballers win over Cuala
Our u15 A’s won a decent game of football in Bridgefield by 1 pt . We started with 14 men and although we gave away a soft goal in the first 2 minutes the lads fought hard to get back into the game. At half time we were 6pts to the good but as often happens we took our foot of the gas and let the Cuala boys back into the game.
Scoil Iosa Senior Ladies Team win Dublin
Very good times for Syls GAA Club this past year. Part of the the great success is reflected in the the performance of the teams from Scoil Iosa in Gaelic Football, Hurling & Ladies Gaelic Football. Last year 2011/2012 the Scoil Iosa Ladies Senior Team put in a very good performance in Dublin before losing heavily to a strong team from Manor House in Raheny.
Syls celebrate 2011 in style
Well Sylvesters, You dun it again. Another great night out, some very well deserved awards and recognition for our players, words of encouragement from the great Pillar Caffrey and Dublin Chairman Andy Kettle, and the usual top class organisation from Eddie Sullivans committee and the Grand Hotel. Aonghus McAnally compered and amused us and thanks to John Keenan for the pictures and the flawless presentation.
U14 footballers win Division 8
Congratulations to John Maughan and his team winning Div8 after a convincing win over St Judes over at Tymon. They had a great crowd back at the club on Saturday evening with a bit of a party atmosphere. After a storming comeback in their semi-final against Lucan the U14B team carried their momentum and form into the Div 8 final and came away with a thoroughly deserved victory and county title. They put in a dominant performance to outscore St. Judes of Templeogue by a sizeable, but not flattering margin of 4-6 to 0-1.
Syls Girls first ever Minor Championship
The Sylvesters ladies made history earlier in the year by entering a team in the Minor League and then in the Championship for the first time in the Clubs 109 year history. For most of the year the Minor team was made up of U17, U16 and even some U14 Players. The only actual U18 Minor Player Aisling Gill came beck from injury for the Championship Semi Final and she also played in the Minor Final yesterday Saturday 27th October 2012. Everyone else is eligible to play Minor football in 2013.
Syls u16 Girls – Another Tremendous Season ...
Nuala & I had the pleasure of managing the Girls u16 squad this season. We played in Division 2 of the League and with just 2 narrow defeats all season we managed to finish 2nd in a very tough league campaign. We were placed in Division 2 of the Championship and this was a competition that we really wanted to do well in. Our first game of the round robin group phase resulted in a heavy defeat to Foxrock/Cabinteeley.

Ladies Win in Leinster Semi
The Ladies Leinster Championship semi final in Broomfield on Sunday afternoon served up an absolute cracker of a game. Played in front of a bumber crowd from both Malahide and Tinahely this game had it all from start to finish. The Syls girls had the best of the early exchanges and led by 2pts. However the Tinahely team was packed with Wicklow County Players and they came roaring back with a goal from 2011 All Star, Lucy Mulhall. The visitors started to take control for a period and finished the 1st half strongly to lead by 2pts at the break
Report on Ladies Leinster SF
Leinster Intermediate Ladies Club Championship Semi-final: St. Sylvester's 1 – 16 Tinahely 3 – 6 The Ladies took a step closer to Leinster glory by beating Tinahely of Wicklow in a nailbiting encounter at Broomfield on Sunday afternoon. They dominated possesion, as reflected in the number of scores for each side. However, they squandered much of that possesion, especially in the first half when they missed three shots at goal, including one rocket from Katy Slattery that crashed off the crossbar and rebounded 20 metres, along with half a dozen point efforts that went wide

U14 hurlers win of table toppers Lucan
St.Sylvesters 4 – 8 Lucan Sarsfields 1 – 6 Syls under 14 hurlers had a good win against Top of the table Lucan Sarsfields on Saturday last at Bridgefield. Although having to line out without team regulars Jamie Kennedy who got injured in training on Wednesday last and Niall McCann ( both of whom attended the game ) who has been ill Syls got off to a horror start with Lucan registering 1 goal and two points before Syls got off the mark with a well taken point by Eamonn McLoughney.
U16 Girls also in Championship Final.
With the Intermediate Team in the Leinster Semi Final And The Minor team in the Championship Final we traveled to Clontarf last Wednesday 26 September 2012 to see Pat Brennan's U16 Team take on Clontarf in the Championship Semi Final. They did not disappoint and were on top for most of the game eventually winning with the score Clontarf 4-5 Syls 6-11. This is a very good result for Syls away against a very good Clontarf team. They will now face Foxrock Cabinteely in the Final.

Ladies win in Crettyard
Ladies Leinster Championship St Sylvesters 5-13 to Crettyard’s 1-7 Another convincing win sees the girls march on in the Leinster Intermediate Football Championship. Peter has pictures at gaapics.com A stylish display saw the girls run out convincing winners . Niamh Mc & Sinead Tracey were in great form in the middle of the field. Ciara Lynch, Anne Clarke & Niamh Harney kept the back line tight all day. Up front, Katie, Lisa Murphy & Sinead Aherne, kept notching up the scores. Overall a job well done by the whole squad on the day. The girls now have a home semi-final v Tinahely of Wicklow on the 14th October. A huge thanks to all who travelled to support the girls.
Sylvesters join elite band
It was a bit of a topic in the club after the hurlers win last Saturday so Mick Stuart compiled the following: This year, 2012, there are 39 clubs with Senior status in one or both of hurling and football. (Senior status is determined by Championship; Senior B hurling has been included). Of these, 16 have dual senior status, that is, in both hurling and football. They are:

U14 hurlers win at Castlenock
U14H D2 Castleknock 0 - 7. St Sylvesters. 5 - 16 On Saturday last the under 14 hurlers made the trip to Porterstown to take on Castleknock in a vital league match . Although missing a number of regulars through injury etc the Syls team travelled in hope to face a much fancied Castleknock team . Although Syls got of to a sluggish start a tremendous goal from Luke Hughes kick started the Syls fightback. Some fine fast hurling followed from the Syls boys and at halftime Syls were a couple of points to the good.

Ladies Leinster Inter Championship - The girls ran up a good score against a very game St Kevins from Louth who battled hard but could not match the power and movement of the Syls outfit.
