Adult Girls Beat Lucan Sarsfields in Championship

Syls Girls travelled to Lucan on Wednesday evening for the first round of the championship and came away with a hard fought victory. Playing against a strong wind in the first half we found it difficult to get into the opposition's half early on. We got a breakaway goal through Niamh Lawlor but then conceded 1-3 without response. Our defence of Michele, Niamh G and Moyno started to get to grips with the wave of attacks coming at them which was the platform for 3 points back. Just before the break Kim was fouled as she went at goal and Sinead Aherne converted the penalty to give us a goal lead at the break.

U13B footballers win in a cracker

U13F Div 5 Syls B 5-10 St Judes B 6-6 The u13B team made the long journey to Tymon Park in Templeogue on Tuesday night worth it with a great win in a very tight game. The game was a high scoring one with Syls getting out of the blocks fast and clocking up some great early points. The midfield of Jack Butler and Luke Cassidy in particular were working hard - looking for the ball and using it intelligently.

U13 hurlers hold out against Faughs

U13H Div2 St Sylvesters 3-5 Faughs 3-4 One point win in an excellent U13 game at Bridgefield on a lovely Saturday afternoon.Faughs started the stronger and were 2-1 up before we woke up. With Daniel Murphy and Eamon McLoughney taking over in the middle we dominated for the next 30-40 minutes but Faughs were a tough nut to crack and we never got more than a few points ahead but a few late points from Eoin Cooney and and Bryn when they finally beat Sean Drum for their third goal we still had a point to spare. Jamie Kenneddy and Mike Meaney caught my eye in defense. Two out of two for these lads.

Our U13a Team continued their quest for Div 1 status

Our U13a Team continued their quest for Div 1 football with our 2nd win in the Div 2 grading league away to Lucan. We are still getting to grips with 15 a side football but the lads are starting to understand the positions and movement required in 15 a side games. We are getting a good response in training but need to keep working hard as we have Ballymun at home next Saturday which should be our toughest challenge so far.

U13A Win against Thomas Davis

Out U13A footballers started the season with a win against Thomas Davis very tough conditions. We are in currently playing in Grading League Div2 and will need to finish in the top 2 to play in Div 1. This is our first season playing 15 a side and the lads are adapting well, we moved 4 players from our successful B team in 2010 and now have a strong panel. We think we are good enough for Div1 but we have some tough games ahead and will need to be at our best and delver a strong performance in all games if we are to get to Div 1. Thanks Ciaran

Mickey "move over Joe Connolly" Meaney gets a mention in Coiste na nÓg annual report

Quote from Coiste na nÓg report "One other competition warrents special mention too - the hurling and football camaints. This is a competition which never disappoints and seems to be, thankfully, gaining momentum. This year we were very fortunate to secure Parnell Park for both the U11 and U12 finals. To say both days were incredible seems an understatement. The venue speaks for itself, but the amount of support the players received from their clubs was truly inspiring. Both days will live long in my memory as the embodiment of all we aspire to as guardians and tutors of our national games for our children. The highlight must surely be the U12 captain of St. Sylvesters (Michael Meaney) who on receiving the trophy on behalf of his team, delivered his acceptance speech totally spontaneously and in the most incredibly fluent, flawless Gaeilge. It was truly one of ' those moments'. Maybe we will hear him do the same in Pairc an Crocaigh in the future.!!"

"I'm going to go down an unconventional route with my player of the year. It has to go to Sinéad Aherne, the Dublin ladies star.
