U14 Hurling Update
The current crop of U14 hurlers have being going very well this year. Division 2 has been incredibly hard fought for past few years with virtually every team in it capable of beating each other on any given day. At the moment however we are currently level on points at the top (albeit it in 2nd place by virtue of scoring difference) having won our last 4 matches on the bounce following an opening day defeat.
U13s just pipped in Div1
The U13A footballers travelled to last year's Southside Champions Clanna Gael this Saturday for a Division 1 league game. Clan had swatted all before them so we knew we were going to be up against it especially as we were missing a couple of players. We played with a strong wind in the first half and despite taking a while to get going we turned 2-07 to 1-0 with Conor Hoyne having a stormer. At half time we had to replace our towering midfielder Andrew Roe and this meant a change in formation, however we continued to play great football and scored 1-01 quickly.
U13 football and hurling update
It was a busy weekend for the U13 hurlers and footballers of St Sylvesters. On Friday night we held the presentation of 2013 Football league medals for Divisions 1 and 5. We had players and families along and hopefully this is the first of many medal presentations we will be doing with these squads over the coming years.
U12Cs win their league
Pride of place this week goes to the Syls U12 C footballers who, on Saturday, clinched the Division 5 League title with a resounding win our Naomh Barrog B’s. Going in to the game, Barrogs were on the same points as us with Skerries a further point back so anything other than a win could see us finish 3rd. However right from the start when Matthew Brenner powered through from midfield to open the scoring with a point, this great bunch of lads never dropped the intensity.
U12 news - trip to Waterford and planning for 2014
The playing season came to an end for the U12s last Saturday with our hurlers completing their second away trip of the year and the fifth for the combined group over both codes. This year we have travelled to Ardara in Donegal, Salthill in Galway and Dunshaughlin in Meath for football challenges while the hurlers had previously made the trip to 3 times All Ireland Club Champions Athenry of Galway. Also attached are the presentations at the U12 meeting in the Grand Hotel on Saturday 7th
U13s lose out in a thriller
U13 D4 Naomh Olaf won by a goal in a high scoring and very entertaining game where the lead changed hands regularly and we often looked like we would win but a burst of three goals against us mid second half gave us a bit of a hill to climb and we just didn't make. Congratulations to both sides on the quality of the football and the very sporting nature of the game, it was a real cracker.
U14A win away to Crokes
The U14A footballers had a deserved 6 point away win over the huge monolithic club that is Kilmacud Crokes this Saturday. Playing with a strong wind in the first half we turned with only a 2 point lead, we played terribly in the first 20 minutes, we forgot the basics and couldn't pick up or kick a ball but we settled and recovered from being 5 points down and goals from Sean Guiden and Danny Taaffe showed us that we could find a way through.
U13s enjoying a busy period
It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the U13 footballers and hurlers. First up on Saturday 7th, all 3 football teams were away to good opposition and we managed to take home 2 victories, the A’s were impressive in a big win over in Ballyboden, the B’s had a big win over Scoil Ui Connaill A’s while our C’s were just pipped by their Ballyboden counterparts.
U13C win and a loss
After two late-in-the-day cancellations put paid to our first two matches going ahead, U13C footballers finally got our league campaign underway with two midweek fixtures in the past few days which produced one win and one loss in Division 8 of the league. The loss came in the first of the fixtures against Cuala B last Thursday night. Having being fairly nip & tuck for most of the match we had gained the upperhand and were leading with 7 minutes to go but Cuala then got a run on us to get in for a few late goals and come out winners 5 – 8 to 4 – 4 in the end.
U13 Hurlers take PJ Troy Cup
The U13 hurlers took part in the annual PJ Troy tournament on Saturday. We were based in Fingallians and our opening group pitted us against the home club and Commercials. We started slowly in both games but generally finished strongly to win both group games. We rotated players from our 17 strong squad to ensure everyone got plenty of time on the pitch.
U13 footballers win over Vincents
The u13 footballers departed on their summer break last Thursday with a hugely encouraging win over St Vincent's, down in St Anne's Park. Vincent's have always been a difficult opponent for us but following on from Thursday we have now beaten them well home and away.
U13 Footballers win Division1
A seven point win in Skerries Ballast Pit gave our U13 footballers St Sylvester's first Division One win since the Seniors won in 2010. In what was effectively the League Final we produced a very impressive display against a strong determined Skerries outfit, defended bravely facing wind and rain in the second half, breaking well down the wings, midfielders holding their ground and some lovely interplay and scores from a mobile forward line. Congratulations to all the boys, to Ernie Brenner, Niall Guiden, Pat Hoyne and all the parents and supporters, there was great Syls support.
U13 Football update
The U13A Footballers continued on their winning run with an impressive victory away to Whitehall. Despite conceding a goal with the first attack of the game, they were patient and calm and managed to get on top gradually, finishing the first half with a 2-08 to 1-03 lead. Danny Taaffe at full forward had a fabulous game, dominating his man and grabbing a great goal while generally creating havoc.
U13 footballers going well
U13A Football League Division 1 Our U13 A footballers got back to winning ways with a big win over St Vincents on Tuesday. While a score line of 3-15 to 2-02 looks comprehensive, the game was in the melting pot 10 minutes in to the second half when Vincents scored a goal to bring the margin down to a point. However for the last 20 minutes our half back line were on top of everything and we moved up another gear to record a very good win
U13 Football Roundup
The U13 football leagues are coming to a head for the season with only 3 matches left for each of our 3 teams. The A footballers continue to lead Division 1 after their 8th win in a row, this time against 4th placed Kilmacud Crokes. The first half was an even enough affair with our 2 goals up the hill in Bridgefield . . .

Andrea Fitzgerald RIP
The players, mentors and parents of the U13 teams would like to send their condolences to the Fitzgerald Family on the sudden death of Andrea, mother of our team mate, Daniel. Andrea was a constant presence at all Daniels matches and hugely supportive to all the players and mentors. We will miss her positive contribution and encouragement.
U12 Football Review
Despite missing a number of regulars our U12 footballers fielded 4 teams on Saturday with a total of 53 players pulling on the Syls jersey in the penultimate round of league games. Our A footballers were missing 6 starters from their previous game and going up against the unbeaten league leaders, St Vincents, that proved too much of a hurdle to climb. Vincents ran out handy winners and so we must settle for second place again this year in Division 1.
John Cox and the Mayo Minors from '82
Gathered at Croke Park on Sunday last for the Mayo V Donegal match was the Mayo minor footballers of 1982. Included in that team and shown in the photograph second from right in the front row is a very young John Cox who represented Mayo that year with great distinction. John is involved with Syls for the last 6 years with this years U13s and has been a great help in other club matters also.
U12 C Footballers win Whitehall Tournament
Congratulations to the U12 C footballers who took part in the inaugural C team tournament hosted by Whitehall on Wednesday evening. This was a 4 team tournament for C teams within the U12 leagues
U12 Football 8 Matches in 7 days
Fresh from their trip to Ardara, the U12 footballers were straight back in to League action with a bang. Not only had we our normal 4 matches but we also had the 4 that had been rearranged due to the Donegal trip.
Syls U12s in GAA Respect Poster
This photo was taken two years ago in Wexford Park after Dublin hurling league match -v- Wexford. We had what are now the current U12's down for friendly matches against Glynn-Barntown of Wexford, followed by trip to the inter-county match. After that match ended, as the Dubs were warming down, our lads decided to join in much to the amusement of all!!.
Yet another memorable trip to Ardara
At the end of a long weekend the Post Master in Divers came out from behind the counter to tell us that the boys were a credit to their club and families and to wish us all the best. That summed up the U12s trip to Ardara where we made loads of new friends and had a fun packed weekend.

U12 Football – 3 Wins and a good training session
The U12 footballers continued their good form with 3 wins in their recent round of games. The A team faced off against a very strong Clontarf team who were just behind us in 3rd place in the league and always give us problems but on this occasion we put in a hardworking and skilful display to run out 7-08 to 2-09 winners. We are now second in Division 1 and playing some good football.
U12 Football 2 Wins, 1 draw and one defeat!
Firstly, congratulations to the 5 Syls players who won SFAI Cup medals will Malahide United last Saturday - Sean Gibson, Denis Smith, Simon Murphy, Josh Bannon and goalscoring hero Sean Guiden. Well done on behalf of the U12 players and Management
