Good win by the Seniors and Minors - U15 hurlers won away
Lots to round on this week
Church Road was packed for the Grand Slam game from Cardiff - what a great performance by the Irish - brave, intelligent, skillful - great to win scoring tries - the Welsh were so disciplined, they only gave up 3 penalties and we never even commented.
ADULT GAMES FUND-RAISER
Fancy yourself as a Sports Pundit?
No Show like a Joe Show
Portumna versus Ballyhale - what a game. I'm only sorry I didn't travel to Thurles - we won't see better. How the hell can small areas produce teams like these - can we ever aspire to such a standard. And Joe Canning - even in the company of King Henry - just marvelous.

Eimer Treacy who has played with us since nursery played her first Leinster Championship U14 game in goal for Dublin V Meath. Dublin eventually won the hard fought game by 4 points - 4-16 to 6-6
Seniors lose - other adult teams win
Playing with a strong wind in the first half we hit 10 wides and gave away a sloppy goal. Eoin Bennis had a great effort come back off the crossbar for Damien McMahon to tab in and leave us 3 up at the break
U14s again pick of the bunch
Busy afternoon in Bridgefield on Saturday with four games and Sunday morning also. Again, the U14s were the pick of our lads with a hard fought draw with Na Fianna.
Applications wanted for Manager of Cork Senior Hurling Team
A triumphal message last evening from the Cork Peoples Association at Malahide suggesting we show our support for their glorious hurlers. Of course we are glad to oblige and help out by spreading the word on their search for a new manager. I wonder will we get a referral fee.!
U16s hurlers happy with opening win
A solid start to the year for our Under 16s, against a spirited Finbars side. Foundations for the win were laid in defence which was ably marshaled through the middle by Stephen Keogh at Full back and Gareth McGrath at numbe
Senior footballers win - Minors lose
The seniors left it late to beat Maurs by two points in the Vincent de Paul Cup. Gabriel is not having much luck preparing for the new season with fully 17 players off the senior panel missing for a variety of reasons. Having said that, they still won against a decen

U13 and U16 hurlers both win tight one
ur first good win in a while and certainly a great way to start the new league. Simon Owens was immense at centre back, as was Karl, Sean and Gavin at full back. Playing with the wind in the first half, Collie Boran showed a bit of guile in going for goal off a 21

Weekend roundup - Sigerson slips from Coughlan's grasp
Hard luck to John and Niall Coughlan and to Collie McIntyre who played for DIT in the Sigerson Cup Final on Saturday, losing to Cork IT on their home ground. Sounds like Niall's thrusty left foot was in action again.
Tale of the unexpected - Under 14 A Football
Ballyboden 1-7 St Sylvester’s 2-9
Nicky Brennan brings Daven and Cusack to St Sylvesters
Good crowd at the club on Wednesday evening for the visit of GAA President Nicky Brennan. Good speaker, gave us a few stories about Council meeting at Hayes Hotel in Thurles and how Michael Daven and Michael Cusack would have viewed his agenda addressing items like Inter Provincials in Dubai, International Rules in Australia, grounds opening in the US - how the Association has evolved in recent years
De La Salle planning to finish the job!
I hadn't tweeked that Ernie Brenner was a De La Salle man - he has been helping at the nursery for a few years and is now managing Under 8 and Under 16, as well as advising us on financial matters. Ernie, we wish you and yours well on St Paddy's Day and we have plenty of room at Church Rd for all your buddys - Can Portumna be that good again - maybe not.
Syls lose the shootout for promotion
It couldn't have been tighter. We drew after extra time two weeks and it went to the last kick of the game last night at the lovely Garristown ground when a free from Dwyer's no 9, maybe his sixth, was enough to see them promoted to AFL3 next year.
Trad night a great success
The Trad/Sing Along night is going very well after our third night on *Friday 20th February 2009*. *Tina McLoughlin* is a class act on whistle and box (see write up on web). *Luke Tobin* will be supporting her most weeks on Guitar. He is a member of Trad Irish Group *Meascán*. *Eddie & Gearóid Ó Mórdha* have supported with songs and trad music. Last friday we also had *Gerard Flanagan* who is a very talanted fiddle player.
Pockets picked in Rowlesstown
A pretty bleak setting, cold wind straight down an open field perched on a hill. This was an opportunity for some lads to get a game in with much of our starting fifteen missing for one reason or another. We trailed 0-2 to 0-4 after playing into the wind in the first half.
Medal Presentation to Under 13 Girls
There was a great turnout of players and parents for the presentation of medals to our Under 13 Girls on winning the Division 1 Shield Final. Dubs stars including our own Sinead Aherne and Niamh McEvoy from Parnells assisted Eddie O'Mordha with the presentations. Picture shows Sinead and Niamh presenting the trophy to team Captain Shauna Barry. Martin Treacy
Successful trip south for U15s and U16s - many thanks to Nemo Rangers
I am glad to report that our U15 and U16 football teams returned safe and well from last weekend’s trip to Nemo Rangers in Cork. The quality displayed in both matches was of a high standard and resulted in a victory for both Sylvester’s. teams.
Under 7's make their debut
Next year's Under 8s made their St Sylvesters debut in the blue and green at Portmarnock on Saturday. Reports were that they fit the shirts well and will be a blue force to be reckoned with on the fields of Dublin and beyond.
Santa comes to Sylvesters
Santa came to Syls again last Saturday to hang out with Malahide's finest up and coming talent. He was well minded by the local constabulary and by the two Ciarans, Ernie, Liz, Suzanne and their gang of merry helpers.
Plenty of wins - U16As the pick of the week
A good start to the season for most of the football teams. Although Bridgefield was closed due to the bad weather, we got a bunch of games played at the back of the Castle.
U14 footballers off the mark in Div1
This was our first game of the season with a short hop over the fence to take on our neighbours who had outperformed us in a recent challenge game. We got some very good commitment from all players but we lacked any real fluency when we had possession.
AFL4 playoff ends in a draw after extra time
Lovely morning out in the Naul, North Dublin looking forward to Spring. Syls never recreated the pre Christmas form when we literally blew O'Dwyers away, maybe the cold and windy conditions worked against us as we never opened them up and let the opposition pull us into a bit of a dogfight.
