Show of force for EGM - full steam ahead

For about a nanosecond in late July we wondered could we get a 200 quorum to show up to a meeting to clear the way to draw down Lotto money for our Ball Wall development. We were sure that if we asked our members to show up that they would oblige and so it was. Over 300 people signed in at the meeting, a great show of force by St Sylvesters and the Executive Committee would like to thank you all, we know it is not always easy, and now we are ready to proceed with our next major development.

Thanks to U12 coaches

Hello Chairman, On Wednesday evening last, while attending the weekly under 12 football training in old Malahide rugby ground, my son took unwell and fainted. Thankfully he has totally recovered, which was aided I'm sure by the excellent response of all the coaching staff present that evening. I was alerted immediately and an ambulance was called, which duely arrived and took care of our son. Both my wife and I would just like to express our sincere thanks to all of the under 12 coaching staff, Ernie, Jimmy, Des and any others present that I have not mentioned, for their prompt response and the level of care that they provided for our son that evening. Regards and Thanks, Paul and Niamh

Ladies Inter Football Champions

LIFC Final St Sylvesters 1-15 Parnels 2-08 Congratulations to girls winning the Inter Championship at the first time of asking over a very game Parnells. This was a really fine display by our girls whose movement around the field was very impressive. Niamh Mc was awarded Man of the Match and it was the most deserved award I have seen, she was magnificent, driving her team forward, contributing three fine points and popping up on her own goal line defending. Gabby was taking notes beside me but I don't think she will be allowed play on the lads team.

U16 hurlers scrape by Crokes

U16H Div3 St Sylvesters 2-12 Kilmacud Crokes 1-10 Bit of a scare for the 16's against a smaller younger Crokes team who refused to lie down. After the high of beating Crumlin earlier in the week, this was a very flat display. Defensively we were mostly fairly solid except for a late goal but up front we made very hard work of scoring and relied on a couple goals to see us through. We play Crumlin again next Tuesday and will need a big improvement to see us through.

Big thanks to Mick and Enda and the Fingal Co lads for preparing Bridgefield at short notice, it set a great scene for a fine game. Hurlers draw again - another exciting game

AHL3 St Sylvesters 3-10 Erins Isles 2-13 Another smashing second half display saw us tie again in the league. Is it my imagination or is the standard of hurling higher and more intense than other years. We took the lead just on 60 minutes when a long delivery was batted out by Dave Casey to Andrew who took it at speed and goaled from 20 metres. There was a nice crowd and a great roar. Isles were awarded a 21 m free and took a point to level it at the death to secure senior status I believe.

Ball Wall for Syls

Often called a Hurling Wall but we know we will develop our Football skills in a similar manner. Brendan and his buddy Jumbo visited Riverside outside Birr about 6 years ago to witness Paudi Butler coaching a Galway Minor Hurling team and the intensity and skill so impressed him he decided there and then that Syls needed a facility like this. Brendan collared Mick Stuart and together they have nurtured and developed the idea, raised the money (thanks to the Stack Family and the Lotto) and with Eddies help, worked with Fingal CoCo and local political representatives to pull it all together.

Super win for Inter Hurlers

IHC Syls beat Commercials in the Intermediate Hurling Championship Quarter Final by three points this evening. Conditions were very difficult with blustery winds and rain and the standard of hurling was a credit to both teams. AHL3 St Sylvesters 0-16 Naomh Olaf 1-13 Last free of the game was just 10 yards too far for Martin Ormande into a strong breeze and we ended up drawing a game we had led throughout. We probably did not make enough of our chances in the first half and a five point interval advantage was quickly recovered by Olafs straight on the restart. Feile Hurling roundup from Pat Hoyne

Basically it was a great few days, notwithstanding the results didn't go our way, the event itself was very much a success overall. It kicked off in the sunshine on Thursday 5th July when we took on Portlaoise, who we were hosting in Malahide for the weekend, in the first match. While the final score was 3-5 to 0-4 to our visitors, the match was very much in the balance until right before half time when a breakaway Laois goal put clear daylight between the two teams and they went on from there. Portlaoise didn't get it as hard again until they got to Croke Park on Saturday!

Disasterous win sees seniors go top

AFL1 St Sylvesters 2-10 St Maurs 1-10 A fine win to go top of the table was spoiled by a bad leg break suffered by our County U21 Star Gary Sweeney mid first half. The game was stopped for about half an hour while the ambulance came. I understand Gary was comfortable in Beaumont last night waiting for an operation and I know that everyone at the game, and I'm sure all Dublin fans, wish Gary the very best.

MHL2 St Sylvesters 1-11 Erins Isle 1-12 Isles goaled with the last puck of the game well into injury time to win after we had fought our way into the lead with a goal about 10 minutes from time. It was a pity to see our county players umpiring instead of playing.

U16 hurlers win at Kilmacud

u16H Div3 Kilmacud Crokes 0-06 St Sylvesters 2-21 Slow first half when we led 0-07 to 0-03 at the break after weathering a lot of pressure from some very fast Crokes forwards. Ciaran O'Carroll and Simon got into their stride with some excellent points late in the half while Dylan, Killian and Matthew defended well and Danny, yet again, made a few good saves and his clearances were all on target. Simon goaled straight from the restart, Shane pointed and we kicked on from there.
