14 Footballers win at Thos Davis

Our U14s Footballers had a good win away to Thomas Davis last night. The conditions were poor and it was difficult to play football but we grinded out a result. We needed to win this as although we had an excellent Feilie campaign we have struggled in the league mostly due to not having a full panel available on a regular basis, injuries, sickness, holidays etc…. Hopefully, the Feilie and now this result will act as a catalyst for better results after the Summer break. Ciaran

Senior Football Championship O’Tooles 0-4  -  3-19 St Sylvester’s This was a very comprehensive victory. The early goals sucked all the life out of this match as a contest. That doesn’t take away from a very good team performance and some very attractive football of the highest quality. What a shame they have to put it all on hold again.

Malahide Primary Schools Senior Hurling Championship

Whether it was the opportunity to finish school early or the desire to represent their school in hurling, I am not sure but over 50 young hurlers turned up to play for their school in the inaugural ‘Malahide Primary Schools Senior Hurling Championship’ sponsored by The Grand Hotel. Historic day for hurling in Fingal area

IT was a historic day in Ridgewood as Fingal minors fielded a team for the first time under Willie Bourke. Their opponents were Armagh who take on Derry in the first round of the Ulster Championship and they were inspired up front by full forward, Mattie Lennon. Lennon, whose father manages the Monaghan senior hurlers, was very much the driving force for Armagh as they built up a 1-10 to 0-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Seniors safely over O'Tooles

SFC St Sylvesters 3-19 O'Tooles 0-05 In this case the score probably is a fair reflection of the game as,apart from the first 15 minutes, we dominated this game in all sectors of the field. Yet again Ross Hazely lorded the middle and was well supported by Shane. Cian was back at full back and was a steadying influence with 4 under 21s in the backline.

Great display by hurlers goes unrewarded

IHC St Sylvesters 1-13 Whithall 0-17 Very disappointed not to get at least the draw after one of our best displays against a very strong Whithall. There was a great intensity to this game with the lead changing hands frequently. Whitehall moved into a strong lead in the first half but a late Des Lehane goal and a point brought us level at the break.

Two wins and a loss in cup football

The Junior A team continued their very impressive run with a win in the Parsons Cup over St Margarets by 2-06 to 1-05 and the Inters Joy Cup Syls 1-14 Garristown 1-05. The Junior Bs snatched defeat from the jaws of victory giving up three late goals to lose 5-05 to 1-16 to Towers Clondalkin. Seniors shoot on sight at Clontarf

AFL1 O'Tooles 0-07 St Sylvesters 1-12 With Darren and Nigel resting for county duty and Micháel, Aiden and Fanning out with injuries our forward line tonight all staked their claim with some excellent scores. Glen got a good goal after some very swift passing, Russy found his shootiing boots from play and hit two lovely frees from the ground, John Coughlan, Andrew Hartnett, Gary, Campers all contributed good points and we seemed to be happy to simply shoot on sight and I thought it paid dividends.

Third C'ship win in a row for Inter Hurlers

IHC Trinity Gaels 0-11 St Sylvesters 5-17 Another strong performance by our Intermediate hurlers against an often dogged Trinity Gaels. We led by 2-09 to 0-03 at half time and a goal on the restart put paid to any chance of a come back. In fairness to Trinity they then had a good 10 minute spell where they notched up some very good scores but the lads battled to the final whistle and finished convincing winners. And Lenny reminded me that we have not yet conceded a goal this year - I'm sure I'm tempting fate mentioning that one.

Girls qualify for Inter Semi Final

LIFC St Sylvesters 0-18 Ballinteer St Johns 0-08 Yet another second half blitz saw the girls notch up their third win in the Championshio and qualify for the semi finals. A one point lead at seven to six at half time was a fair reflection of a first half where Johns stayed with us almost point for point. The second half was a different story, Syls half back line closed the door, Lea Harold, Sinead Treacy and Anne Clarke sweeping forward at every opportunity, Macker taking a few great high catches and the combination of Nicole, Sinead and Katy Slattery hitting a string of excellent points.

JFC B St Sylvesters 2-11 Wanderers 1-04 A brilliant second half performance where our young team simply had too much mobility after a very tight first half. At one stage we were 4 points to 1 down but a good goal by Andrew Berry settled our nerves and we trailed by a point at the half. Homer and Graham Morris cleaned up in the backline, Dominic and Kevin Lynnott were on top in the middle and the speed of Killian O'Flynn, Garreth McGrath and Barry Cowley was too much for Wanderers up front. We had to fight really hard to overcome Thomas Davis with a late Mark McCormack goal on Sunday morning and that may have proved our undoing in the final. A cold and windy back pitch at Drimagh Castle CBS on the Long Mile Road proved to be a welcoming place for the Under 15s who got back on the winning trail on Sunday morning after a number of close calls in recent league matches. Syls led 4-1 to 3-1 at the break and accounted for St. James Gaels by 7-5 to 4-3 with a committed second-half performance

Inter Hurlers win in the C'ship

IHC St Peregrines 0-10 St Sylvesters 1-15 We led from start to finish and, thanks to an early goal by Martin Ormonde from a long free (did it get a touch?) we were always more than six ahead. Defensively we were excellent, Alan Morris and Dara Flaherty particularly in good form, Andrew and Russy in the middle and Martin Ormonde deadly from frees with a goal and nine I think.

U16s battle hard but just miss out

U16F A Championship St Sylvesters 0-12 Cuala 1-14. A great second half performance, the ball bounced around the Cuala square a few times but we just didn't get the break after battling back to three points. Cuala got an early jump leading 1-4 to 0-1 before we settled and it proved just too much for us to overcome but congrats to Archie and Peter and the lads, it was a great effort.

Syls drawn in 2A for All Ireland Feile na nGael

Syls families will host the Laois representatives in the All Ireland Feile na nGael and we are drawn in group 2A along with Laois, Castlenock and Westmeath. We have offered to host the group in Malahide but have not heard yet if that will happen - would be a nice hurling weekend for the town.

Junior A team look strong at Plunkets

JFC B St Oliver Plunkets ER 0-08 St Sylvesters 0-14 Strong impressive display in the B Championship away to Plunketts, we led from start to finish, always in control without killing off the game. Defensively we were solid, Graham Morris and Falvey protecting Ciaran Murray fairly well, Dominic McDonnell and Kevin Lynnott showing a bit of class around the middle, Keith Slye hit three frees off the ground from outside the 45, very impressive . . .

U7s away at Donabate

All the players did us proud in what was a hugely enjoyable day yesterday with lots of great performances especially when you take into account the fact that they had 5 teams so each one of their teams got a rest at some stage. Thanks to Dave, Stuart, Jackie & Matt for managing the teams & our resident photographer Peter. The kids are coming on in leaps and bounds but the most important thing is that they are all involved and enjoying themselves.
